Slim Couture

I hate to admit this, but every time I receive a kind compliment, for example: “You are pretty!” I say thanks with a smile, but a small, spiteful voice inside my head is always lamenting… “Yeah, but you’re still fat.”

Sometimes I wonder if it’s me telling myself that, or just the invisible voice of my critics out there. Even though I’m no longer morbidly overweight or in a particularly unhealthy physical state, I still don’t feel confident enough about the way I look. My weight has been something that’s been bothering me for a long time now. Perhaps you may find this hard to believe because I’m always posting vain pictures of myself. But those pictures have been digitally altered, and I know my good angles, plus I selectively choose which pictures to upload… so I have no qualms posting a photo online, because I’m in total control. In real life, however, there’s no running away from what other peoples eyes see!

I won’t bore you with excessive woeful tales about how chubby I really am, blah blah blah. I’m sure most of you are all too familiar with my weight struggles already. Also, they’re moderately depressing to read about. I’ve posted a whole lot about it throughout the past 2 years or so, you can browse through the “weight loss” labelled posts in my archive if you like, but today’s post will be focusing on a different subject – I’m introducing an effective new weight management program I’ve been on, also under traditional chinese medicine / methods, called Slim Couture.

Slim Couture is a home-grown Singapore company focused on helping women lose weight safely. Through the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, Slim Couture prides itself in providing 100% results guaranteed weight loss solutions to female clients with weight issues since 2010.

I left my face completely unaltered in the pic above so you can see how chubby and round my face actually is! I was blessed to be born with a long face shape and a nice angular jawline but I kind of ruined it all by over eating, lol.

I’d first heard about Slim Couture from Yina last year. She knew I was interested in losing weight (but obviously finding it difficult to gather enough motivation and discipline to stick to a diet / exercise regime) so she recommended Slim Couture to me, stating she had personally witnessed good results for herself despite only having done the treatment for about 2 months. I considered the option, but decided I would try losing the weight all by myself, thought I wouldn’t need any external help…… …. but eventually realized… god damn it, I really do need the help I can get, lol! I’m so easily distracted and sidetracked. I need something to keep me committed. So finally, about a month ago, I decided to give Slim Couture a go!

Now, just so you know, this post consists entirely of my own opinions, and I’m not being told to say any of this.

Here’s me on my first day of treatment with them!

Upon stepping in, I felt a familiar sense of nervousness overcome me. I remember feeling this way a long time ago: Excited. Scared. Nervous. Hopeful. Skeptical. …All at once.  I’ve done TCM slimming before, so I’ve no doubt that it could actually work. But Slim Couture’s treatments do not involve needles. What exactly can Slim Couture do for me, or you?

TCM slimming 101- information extracted from their official website.

“As people are busy with their hectic work schedule, it is very unlikely that they will have the time to exercise and keep fit. And the fastest and easiest method that they can find is taking slimming pills or supplements that help to burn fats and loss weight in the blind of an eye. Some even go to the extent of crash dieting, where one does not eat willingly for long hours in order to lose weight. On the other hand, most people are not aware that TCM slimming techniques are healthy and does not have side effect on the body, techniques such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medication, massage therapy, scrapping and cupping treatment.

Slimming pills and supplements
Taking slimming supplements and weight loss pills are fast and convenient ways to lose weight. One just simply performs his daily chores and it only takes a minute or 2 and pops the pill before or after meal for it to take effect. Those who took the supplements are more than happy, as the results are noticeable after a short period from a few weeks’ time to even a few days, depends on individual’s reaction to the medicine. Soon after taking the supplement for a prolonged period of time, the effects will degrade, as the human body starts adapting to the medicine, and sometimes, the result may even rebound if one just simply stops taking the medication. Taking slimming pills and supplements are fast and convenient, but the effects are not permanent and sometimes may even cause side effects the body.

Crash dieting
While some are using drugs and pills to suppress obesity and burning fats in their body, there are also people who will go to the extent of reducing their meal intake. In a sense, yes, eating a reduced amount of food everyday as to doing the same amount off physical activity somehow will imbalance the intake (food) and output (action) ratio. Well, you may be able to achieve the desired weight in a short period of time, but it can be dangerous as well, as crash dieting also means cutting off your intake of healthy minerals, vitamins, which are good for the body in fighting off illnesses or viruses. Crash dieting may also cause malnutrition which can be risky for people of a younger age.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Slimming
As compared to taking slimming supplements and crash dieting, TCM slimming method is healthy, does not have side effect, and the results are long-lasting. Moreover, it helps to regulate blood circulation, internal secretion, detoxing, improve metabolism and digestion, which helps to promote the overall healthy effect on slimming. It is not always as simple as in the case that the more you eat, the more weight you gain. Most people believe that weight is gained from overeating, which is in fact true for most cases, but it fails to explain that how can some people simply can lose weight even though they are heavy eaters while some just simply gain weight easily, even just by eating small portions of meal and drinking only water. Traditional Chinese Medicine studies the relationship between having healthy internal organs and the overall well-being of a person.”

After having been through quite a few sessions with them now, I’d like to personally advise a few things you can expect if you undergo the same treatment:

• Your measurements and weight will be taken every session (mine are twice weekly), so your weight loss progress can be closely monitored. It’s very motivating to hear the numbers dropping every week! And also a great way to keep yourself in check.

• Don’t expect it to be some miracle treatment whereby you stuff yourself with bad food, and still expect to be losing a lot of weight. I’ve said this before, and I swear no words are more true. You cannot out-exercise a bad diet. You will have to follow their diet plan for you if you want the best results in the shortest amount of time.

• You will, however, see results in as little as one session. I have to admit, I didn’t diet at all during the period between Session 1 and Session 2. Partly because I had no self control, also because I was curious to see what the treatment could do without any dieting effort from my part. Amazingly enough, my measurements still dropped around my thigh area!

• No pain, no gain, right? It does hurt. Both scraping “gua sha”, and cupping “ba guan”. Quite a substantial bit…. especially at the start. It definitely takes some getting used to. I actually writhed and flung around like something from The Exorcist movie and almost kicked my therapist a few times (I think I actually did, luckily they’re all super nice). Gradually, you’ll get used to the sensation more as the sessions go by, and the pain becomes bearable. It hurts the most where you have the most cellulite – but “gua sha” will help your cellulite go away (I can vouch for this!!!!!!!!) and it’s extremely effective in helping you lose inches off problem areas (for me, particularly my love handles and upper thighs) so yes… it’s totally worth it. Through this treatment, I’ve come to realize that pain is temporary, whereas the results will last for as long as you bother to maintain them. I have low pain tolerance, so I wouldn’t be doing this unless I really believe it was worth my time and effort.

• You won’t need to take any dietary supplements or exercise regularly when you’re with Slim Couture.

• The cupping will leave reddish marks (they do not hurt afterwards like bruises do, only discoloration) on your body, and these can last anywhere from days to weeks. If you like wearing sleeveless clothes, you could either 1) ask your therapist to avoid cupping areas where you don’t want the marks to be seen, or 2) cover them with concealer, like I do!

I lost 1.5kg in a week, with eating clean, and help from Slim Couture!!!!! I was shocked myself. For me, I don’t have as much of a problem losing weight as I do maintaining to keep it off. But of course, everyone’s results will vary and you should not base your expectations on MY results. I can only tell you what I went through personally. I know that their other customers have drastic weight loss way more impressive than the rate I’m going! I’m probably too lenient with my diet. I still snack on junk food quite often, much to their displeasure. Nevertheless, I will try harder! Despite my not-so-clean diet, I’ve still been seeing amazing progress when it comes to achieving a more svelte silhouette. My lumps and bumps have all decreased significantly!

Thank you dear Joanne, Sherlin, Wan Ting and all the other wonderful ladies at Slim Couture for making me feel so hopeful about attaining a trimmer version of myself! It really helps that they’re convincing at encouraging you. They make you feel like your goals are certainly achievable, and they do their very best to help you in any way they can. Since my treatment is still an on-going process, I can’t show any Before / After shots yet. BUT, in my next post (soon), I’ll show you guys some progress shots, where you can already see significant improvement in my extra flabby areas!

I’ll be happy to answer any questions related to Slim Couture that you may have.

You can leave me a comment, or drop me an e-mail. If you do visit them, make sure to tell them you came from Jessica’s blog! They will treat you well. :) And if you go to the Singapore Shopping Centre outlet, we may just bump into each other sooner or later! Do say hi if we do! I’m still going there twice weekly. I love how it’s just opposite Plaza Singapura, very convenient for me to go for my other appointments after my treatments. I can’t wait to share with y’all my results! Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!

Eu Yan Sang – Weight Management Program Post 6

I have a secret to admit.

I’m not the fastest runner. I think that’s got to do with the fact that I almost never run, at all. Even if I’m exercising, I would choose swimming and badminton over actual jogging. It just seems less tiring (yeah I do understand the point of exercise is to work your muscles) so when I was told that I’m supposed to run 5km one day for SHAPE RUN 2013 in conjunction with my Eu Yan Sang blog posts..

I freaked.

I would cringe so badly at the mention of even 1km. 5km?! I can’t remember the last time I ran half a km!  For your information, I’ve never done any 2.4kms during NAPFA tests. I’d skipped all NAPFA tests in school because 1) I was lazy and skipping stuff in school was my best subject and 2) I had a long term medical certificate for anemia. Having low blood pressure and anemia means I’m prone to spontaneous fainting spells & black outs, usually triggered by fatigue, lack of oxygen and vigorous exercise. I’m totally not kidding. I used to have scary black outs even while not exercising, all the time….. so I wasn’t going to risk it. Since I was in primary school, I’ve had to take medication to boost iron that produces healthy red blood cells. Perhaps it’s because I grew up very used to vbeing physically inactive, that this lifestyle habit carried on into my adult life, regrettably! It all makes sense now, lol.

Ok. grandmother story aside… one fine morning, like it or not, I woke up at 5am and hauled my ass down to Nicoll Highway where SHAPE RUN 2013 was held!!!

When I got there, I was surprised to find throngs of enthusiastic women who seemed very excited to gather and mass move our bodies together in a forward direction.

Can’t say I didn’t feel confused by their enthusiasm at first, but after the run, I now understand the sense of satisfaction that comes with these runs.

I met up with 3 of the winners (Pamela, MaryAnn, Christy) featured in my previous blog post, who were a lot brighter faced and cheerier than I was at 6:50am!

They’re all undergoing Eu Yan Sang’s Weight Management Program (the same one I did before) and this run is part of the whole arrangement. We were missing Adeline, our 4th winner however she was sick that day, and could not attend.

We packed our things into the lockers provided, got into the line and at 7am sharp, we started running!
By running I mean, er, alternating brisk walking and jogging. Ok fine a lot of walking!!!!!

Game faces on, and we’re gonna do this together!!!

The weather was very merciful, giving us slight breezes every now and then, and it was actually rather pleasant despite me huffing and puffing away. I felt refreshed and energetic after a few minutes of jogging. It’s quite motivating to jog with thousands of other runners because you feel like you’re all in this together!

No one’s here to judge each other, there were women of all ages, races, shapes and sizes gathered to achieve one common goal : Complete the 5 kilometers, and to feel good about themselves for making a healthy lifestyle choice!

The first 1km was quite easy, which went by in the blink of an eye. I overtook the other 3 EYS winners at one point, and was happily jogging away, feeling extremely good. However….. soon, somewhere along the 1.5km to 2km mark, I started to lao hong and slow down a lot. HAHA and everyone ran past me. See la, hao lian at the start.

I took every photo opportunity I could get, but actually I just wanted a valid reason to stop running even for just a few seconds and not look like a loser, lol wtf.

I chugged along slowly and kept telling myself, “You can do this. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!!!” while Dory from Finding Nemo kept singing in an Ellen Degeneres voice, swimming around inside my head. I am 99% not found to be awake at 7am through 365 days a year, so the very fact that I was doing this seriously impressed me already. As you can tell, I’m easily impressed. :P

SOOOOOOOO HAPPY when I saw the water station!!!! When I took my first sip….

Ahhh, the gift of life! Look at that tortured face.

Remember what I said about every photo opportunity?

Anyway, this is Pamela, whom I didn’t recognize from her picture because she looks so much younger now and slimmer after losing some weight!!! She maintained the happy vibe throughout the whole run and in my opinion, did the best out of all of us. Job well done, Pam!

Well, after about an hour (to be exact 1 hour 8 mins) I REACHED THE FINISH LINE!!!!!! WOOHOOO. I played “We Are The Champions” from my phone, intending to sprint the last 200m but I was really too tired and walked all the way instead. -_- I know fit people only take 30 mins for 5km… but whatever… People are good at different things. Some at running, others at making nice looking cakes. :’D

WHAT DOES ACTUAL TIMING MATTER!! All I know is, I MADE IT! When I wasn’t even sure if I could wake up and get out of bed at 5am that morning. I’m proud of myself, and the other 3 girls!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Well done Pamela, Christy and MaryAnn!

Big big thanks go out to Jayne, my lovely Nuffnang manager who encouraged me from the start and even participated in the run herself to accompany me!!!! Every time I told her, “Jayne. I cannot. I DIE” she will say

“JESS!!!!!!!!! YOU CAN ONE!!!!!!!” Awww she’s such a sweetheart!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

Donning my SHAPE RUN 2013 medal and new Skechers running shoes, yay!!!

With a little heart, some hope and a lot of hard work…. you can make decisions that will change your life. If there ever is a 5km run again, I don’t mind doing it with friends, because it’s actually pretty fun! The post-run sense of achievement and feeling is great, and unlike any normal work out I’ve been through. It was more like a journey, than just exercise. It was the first time doing something like this for all of us, but with moderate eating & help from Eu Yan Sang’s Weight Management Program, we came through!

Now, we asked Adeline and Christy how they felt after 3 months of undergoing the Weight Management Program, and here’s what they said! I have inserted my own comments in blue.

Interview with Adeline:

• The weight management program jump started my slimming process
• Did not engage in much exercise on my own during the program. However, due to the nature of my job as • a locations manager with the media, I am often outdoors, and I do a lot of walking (it always helps to have a more active lifestyle!)
• Ate my prescribed herbal medicine daily
• Did not visit my physician on a frequent basis (the treatment would be more effective with frequent and disciplined visits to your physician, of course)

How do you feel now?

Appearance wise, it is good. My colleagues & my children’s teachers asked if I had lost weight and stated that they could see a difference!
Health wise, I’ve observed more frequent bowel movement and urination, meaning an increased effectiveness in toxic expulsion. (I had very regular toilet trips while on my treatment, btw. #noshameinadmitting)energy level is also higher than before, along with a more controlled diet. In the past I used to crave for certain foods when feeling stressed. Now, my cravings have decreased and I eat in moderation.

Overall experience of the treatment:

My friendly physician prevents me from feeling pressurized during the procedures (This is really important as it motivates you instead of making you feel worse!)
First time doing acupuncture in my entire life! More than twenty needles were used for every session. Initially I was nervous, but the pain was bearable. There was no psychological barrier and with time, the experience gets better. However, I felt that it was rather boring to have to lie down for two hours every session because I am an active person. (Adeline did 1 hour of acupuncture each on her front and back for every session, not every one has the same treatment duration)
I also did cupping once in a while and found cupping effective, not minding the temporary marks.

On the whole, Adeline feels that this program is a healthy and gradual method of losing weight. The results are visible and the weight does not rebound, unlike with the use of slimming pills. She has even recommended the program to her colleagues and friends.

How do you feel about the Eu Yan Sang Weight Management program?

Intially, I was a bit skeptical as the program needs to consume TCM. Working in the hospital, I’ve seen how some patients came in with TCM induced liver problems. I have not consumed any TCM before the start of the program.

What was the treatment like?
I didn’t have an issues with the needles and was not afraid of pain. (Most common feedback I’ve heard from people who’ve tried this treatment is that the needles pain is quite bearable) Physician Lin was always thoughtful to ask me if I felt any pain. At first, the herbal medication was a bit hard to swallow, but after a while, I got used to the taste. Physician Lin also did cupping on me based on my symptoms. (I never did cupping during my treatment, so every treatment is actually customized to each individual)

Is it what you expected?
Yes, I knew that this program has to adhere to TCM and acupunture.

Was it tough keeping to the program? Did the physician help/ encourage you so that you can keep to the program?
As I am doing shift work, it was hard to go for my treatments twice a week. I tried my best to turn up for appointments every week. Physician Lin was very encouraging, always keeping track of what I eat and what activites have I done to improve my weight loss. (I find it helpful that my physician keeps track of these things for me – it’s so easy to lose track of your lifestyle habits when you’re not paying attention!!!)

How has your overall health improved?
My intital weight when I went for my first consultation was 104kg. My current weight now is 99 kg.
I have since changed my lifestyle and eating habits, as Physician Lin will always ask me not to take carbs for dinner. I have since included more greens and healthy food. I am also not so lethargic as I used to be.

Eu Yan Sang – Weight Management Program Post 5

Remember my blog post from a few months back that announced an awesome contest I would be holding, whereby 2 lucky blog readers of mine will get to win a fully sponsored Weight Management Program by Eu Yan Sang to help achieve their goal weight?

Well today, I will be introducing four extremely lucky Eu Yan Sang winners to you… 2 of which are winners from my blog’s contest, and the other 2 lucky girls were picked by a similar contest from SHAPE magazine!!! These 4 ladies / women come from different backgrounds and lifestyles, however they all face the same problem: they’re struggling to maintain a healthy and ideal weight for themselves, despite past efforts. I’ve totally been in that position before, and to be honest, some days I feel like I still am. Being fit is a lifelong commitment. But here’s hoping Eu Yan Sang will be the difference they need to jump start their journey to a healthier life! :) I know it sure was, for me!!
Let’s take a look at the profiles of these lovely women who are bold and daring enough to share their pictures, story, and progress with us. What’s a weight loss story without dramatic Before and After results that will shock all your family and friends, right? It may seem a little daunting to have their pictures plastered on my blog for a weight management post (these are all real stories and people!! no hoax) but I believe it’s good to have some positive pressure to push yourself along. Without pressure or a reason to really stick to your goal, it’s difficult to stay determined. Whenever I went off my diet for awhile last year, I always thought to myself, “Die lah. Cannot. People on my blog expecting to see obvious results… I cannot disappoint them, or myself!!!!!” so maybe this will help them stay on course. :P People are watching you!!!!
So here you have it, the 4 lucky ladies currently undergoing Eu Yan Sang’s weight management program! (30 sessions)

Eu Yan Sang Winner #1
Name: Adeline Koh Chew Yan (Shape Magazine Winner)
Story: “I gave birth 3 years ago, but still look 6 months pregnant. (mother’s apron)”
- I used to be slim, perfect for my height of 1.74m.  However, after the birth of my twins 3 years ago, my tummy still look like 6 months pregnant and I’m unable to shed my post preggies weight!!  My pre-preg weight was 65kg, now at 79kgs, I’m beginning to lose my self confidence as a mother & wife :(  Many friends are still asking if I am pregnant AGAIN, and I look forward to finding real help to slim down and give hope to many of the women in the same situation as me.

(My comments: To be honest, I don’t think Adeline looks 6 months pregnant at all. I think she looks good for her age! :) Nevertheless, let us bear in mind that this Eu Yan Sang weight management treatment is not ONLY for obese or extremely overweight people, it is also suitable for women who want to attain better health and lose a few inches off problemaic flabby areas too!)

Eu Yan Sang Winner #2
Name: Christy Teo (Blog Winner)
Story: “After giving birth, I tried many ways to lose weight, but failed.”
- I tried the meal replacements, pills, I signed up for a gym membership and had a personal trainer. I thought I could lose weight the healthy way in the gym. But I was wrong. Instead, I felt pressured. I would always think that all the fit people in the gym were staring at me, and laughing at my fats. Once, I stopped training half way and burst out crying. Because I could not fight the monster in me.
I want to be part of this programme so that I can feel good and look good and be proud of myself. And that I never have to look down on myself again just because I am fat.

(My comments: Totally teared up when I read her story :’( I know what you mean. Sometimes, I feel like a monster myself. It doesn’t help that I’m also pretty tall for a Singaporean (about 1.7m) so I appear giant-like when I’m around other petite girls. And I also don’t like going to the gym because the way people look at me in there, it’s like they think I’m wasting my time. I prefer engaging in fun sports with friends, so it doesn’t feel so torturous when there’s a bit of fun factor thrown in there!
Eu Yan Sang Winner #3
Name: Mary Ann (Blog Winner)
Story: “Over the years with lack of exercise and control of food intake, I ballooned to 80kg.”
- I’m very interested in seeking Eu Yan Seng’s help in losing weight as you see, 5 years ago I was only 50kg. But over the years with lack of exercise and control of food intake, I ballooned to 80kg. I hate shopping for clothing as I get angry at myself when the salesperson informs me that I can’t fit or that they do not come in larger sizes.  I don’t even meet my old friends due to the fact that I can’t get over their reaction if they were to see me in this state. I really hope I’ll get picked for this contest and gain back my confidence and most importantly – a healthier body, state of mind and just a healthier me!
(My comments: The insensitive, snarky remarks from other people (rude sales people or friends who lack tact) hurt even more than the self-realization that you’ve let yourself go. Having gone through weight troubles myself, I’m very careful about how I describe other people, especially when the person I’m talking about is in front of me. If it’s rude to call an unattractive person “hideous”, how is it socially acceptable to taunt overweight people with comments like “whale” or “pig”? What you say about other people, says more about you than them. If you know of friends who are gaining weight, don’t tease them about it. Instead, be a good buddy and offer to partake in healthy, physically exerting activities with them!)
Eu Yan Sang Winner #4

Name: Pamela Lee Hui Ying (Shape Magazine Winner)
Story: “I have health problems like sleep apnea, and joint pains resulting from weight gain.”
- After I stopped breastfeeding, I put on 12kg within a few months. This sudden weight gain has been difficult to shed, given my desk bound job. It has caused me health problems like sleep apnea and joint pains, especially in my knees. I want my health and fitness back, so that I can have the energy to keep up with my toddler son.”

(My comments: Apart from being generally physically unfit, weight gain also results in many other sub health problems. For Pamela, it’s joint pains, for me it was accelerated heart rate & a really aching back pain that just wouldn’t go away, until I lost more than 10 kilos did the load finally lighten. Quite literally.)
Here’s some useful and relevant information I found on the internet that I thought was quite insightful.

“Research has shown that as weight increases to reach the levels referred to as “overweight” and “obesity,” the risks for the following conditions also increases:

• Coronary heart disease
• Type 2 diabetes
• Cancers (endometrial, breast, and colon)
• Hypertension (high blood pressure)
• Dyslipidemia (for example, high total cholesterol or high levels of triglycerides)
• Stroke
• Liver and Gallbladder disease
• Sleep apnea and respiratory problems
• Osteoarthritis (a degeneration of cartilage and its underlying bone within a joint)
• Gynecological problems (abnormal menses, infertility)
Overweight is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 or higher; obesity is defined as a BMI of 30 or higher.
Being severely obese has serious psychological and social repercussions. Many people who are overweight are subject to disapproval, even lectures, from family and friends and to sneers and remarks from strangers. Such behavior is propagated by the general societal belief that obesity is caused by a lack of self-discipline or moral weakness. These attitudes carry over into the work world, where a job or a promotion is often denied simply because of how much one weighs.”

Of course, to say that an overweight person lacks self-discipline isn’t entirely untrue. You don’t become overweight from watching your diet and exercising regularly. But the next time before you open your mouth to call someone fat, think about what sort of person you are being by kicking someone when they are already feeling down. Insecurities and the lack of self-confidence snowballs extremely quickly. You think by pointing out to an overweight person that they’re fat will make them motivated and go to the gym? You’re wrong. They already know. They’re not blind or stupid, they have mirrors to look at their own reflections. All you’re doing is hurting their self confidence even more. I would know very well how this feels. And when you don’t feel confident of yourself, you won’t go to the gym. You’ll coop yourself up at home, wallow in self-pity and probably indulge in ice cream to make yourself feel better. It’s a vicious cycle. Obesity may very well be a mental illness as much as it is a physical one.

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again. Losing weight and becoming healthier is more of a mental hurdle than a physical one… believing you’re worth the change and effort, is the most challenging part.

To the 4 ladies above, kudos for embracing the situation no matter how grim it may appear to be, and for wanting to make a change about your weight, AND your life. I think it’s incredible how you are brave enough to share your true story with other women, to motivate the ones who are facing similar problems… :) And to show that you’re never too young or old to make a change or lose some weight! I wish you all the very best of luck overcoming your health and psychological difficulties, and hope for the best results from the traditional chinese medicine method of acupuncture & weight management program you’re currently receiving from Eu Yan Sang…. for those of you who don’t know, it’s the same one I went through myself last year!!!!! You can read all about it from my previous blog posts.
I’ll keep you guys updated about their progress, and meanwhile, stay healthy and keep fighting!

Eu Yan Sang – Weight Management Program Post 4

So, it’s been a couple of good months now since the last time I looked as big and heavy as the picture below….. but just in case you forgot what I used to look like, here’s a gentle reminder.

Weight loss starts not with a change of diet or lifestyle, but with changing your state of mind.

There’s the old me, on the left, and the current me on the right. I love delivering shock-factor pictures like these, they’re always so fun. Especially when you know you’re no longer the person you used to be. Face your demons! I embrace my past because it has made me a better person.

♥ My Story With Eu Yan Sang:

Mmmmhm. No biggie…. just lost like 10 whole kilograms of fat I had the misfortune of putting on after gorging myself with food and spiraling out of control of my own body.

…WHO AM I KIDDING?! It’s a huuuugeee deal!!!!! Last year I dropped about 11kg in total, and of that amount, 5.2kg was with the generous and sincere help of Eu Yan Sang’s weight management program. Read my 100% honest recount of the experiences here: Post 1, Post 2, Post 3. You will notice how my attitude starts to sound more positive in writing from the 2nd post onwards as I begun to see satisfactory results!

I was dealing with weight issues for awhile and was losing weight on my own, but Eu Yan Sang offered me that SHOVE I truly needed to get off my ass and really work those pounds off. Everyone, and I repeat, EVERYONE can lose weight instantly if they wanted to. You will see results in a few days, or a week, even if they are minor.. they are results nonetheless. But it’s just SO much easier when you have someone encouraging (in this case, professional to boot) to guide you along and nudge you whenever you start getting lazy. Many a times I felt like giving up on my low-carb diet last year, but my physician kept pushing me further, pressuring me in all the right ways. The only thing more difficult then losing the weight itself is gathering enough motivation, determination and willpower before you get around to doing it.

Before I started the program, I was really skeptical and hesitant. I told myself even if I only lose like 2kg it’d be an achievement (back then, losing weight seemed somehow impossible to me, it was as though no matter what I did I only seemed to gain more weight) Well imagine my delight when I lost 5.2kg in under 3 months thanks to Eu Yan Sang’s guidance and traditional acupuncture method!!!!!! Go read my previous posts to find out how acupuncture actually helps with raising your metabolism and curbing a monstrous appetite like mine!

Here I am with Physician Yang in a photo taken last week, I was so glad to see her again and gave her a warm hug when I walked into the clinic! I don’t want to seem over dramatic about being so grateful to her and Eu Yan Sang but really, I am. A lot of people pressured me to lose weight along the years, by calling me a pig, fat, obese, troll, etc, but those comments did nothing except piss me off / hurt my feelings / make me feel like not losing weight even more, because they weren’t supportive of encouraging but more of taunting. And I don’t respond well to taunting. I am a rebellious soul and will do mostly always the opposite of what people tell me to. I was just born that way.

But Physician Yang was patient, understanding and encouraging, like a second mother, which is why I felt so motivated by her genuine support. Even when I faltered, she didn’t blame me, but instead urged me to strive to do better, for my own health and sake – not for her, or for anyone else. Anyway, Physician Yang not only helped me find ways to curb my appetite and shed kilos, she also helped in improving my overall health!

Every single visit to Eu Yan Sang’s clinic would result in blood pressure, heart rate checks, asking me if my bowel movements have been regular, etc. Eu Yan Sang’s Traditional Chinese Medicine and practice approaches are more holistic that way, they believe paying attention to little details will help improve one’s overall health as when you feel unwell it means your body’s yin and yang is out of balance. They will try restoring that again for you, and prefer using all-natural ingredients on their chinese medicine as opposed to western drugs which are full of chemicals.

♥ My Story After Eu Yan Sang

I was kinda afraid that after ending my weight management program with Eu Yan Sang, I’d accidentally let my strength slip again and have my weight rebound back up. But surprisingly I haven’t gained any weight at all since ending my treatment and in fact I’ve lost more weight without even trying (no exercise, no special diet, I still eat ice cream and pasta whenever I want to, but within a reasonable amount). I’ve ended my treatment since September 2012, and still I am maintaining the results well!

Generally I try to eat healthier, fresher stuff like homemade sandwiches… it’s not carb free but it’s still delicious (sustainable dieting is key) and relatively good for you compared to fried chicken or hokkien mee!

But on days when I REALLY feel like snacking on something as unhealthy and fattening as potato chips, I try my best to substitute it with the next best thing! In this case, I went away with potato chips and made baked kale chips instead (no carbs YAY!!!)

Have you girls ever had kale chips? THEY ARE SO AMAZING!!! They taste like seaweed except better and 100% natural because they’re organic and chemical free, I just added a bit of salt and olive oil. They taste a lot better than potato chips but have less than 1/10 the calories.

I realized, after a few months of trying to control my diet, that you don’t have to give up good taste if you’re on a moderated diet. I can be losing weight and yet be eating all sorts of food that I love, such as cheese, steaks, mushrooms, soups, deep fried stuff… I just have to eat smart and choose quality over quantity. Sustainable dieting means something you can keep doing for months on end without feeling you’re on the brink of starvation or depriving yourself. Now that I’m lighter, healthier and eating better, I feel amazing! I’m thankful that I’m easier on the eyes these days, too. No need to worry about layers of fat folding around my stomach when I sit down or bend over and I LOVE being able to fit into UK 10 dresses with ease when I used to struggle with Size 14s and 16s.

I no longer have to feel self-conscious or lousy about myself because I can’t fit into normal-sized pretty clothes, or like when I stand next to tall, gorgeous, slim friends… of which I seem to have many of!!!!! I mean obviously I’m not as utterly beautiful as dear Beatrice in the picture above, but I still feel happy with the way I look despite my flaws and imperfections and really, I used to feel like an ogre beside my friends after I gained all the weight. But after all this talk about my success with shedding weight and how many kilos I’ve lost…. I HAVE to admit to you guys..

I’m still not TOTALLY contented with my body and weight. Obviously I can still work on a lot of things!!! I will be the first to say, I reckon my arms and legs are still huge, hahaha. TONS smaller than what they used to be, trust me. But yeah, still pretty big and noticeable.

Ideally, I want to be as thin as my pal over here.

LOL. Just kidding… (I think), no – really, I am. It is not only important to have a healthy weight but also a healthy state of mind! Please don’t let yourself be one of those girls who are SKINNY but think that they are fat. You have a mental / psychological problem, not a weight problem. Although my BMI is now in the healthy and acceptable weight range, my ideal weight is actually about 6 or 7kg lesser than what I am right now. I actually had a New Year’s Resolution post in January stating I want to lose a goal weight of 7kg….. will I be able to achieve my goal this year, with almost half the year gone already???

10 ways to lose weight effectively

If you’re human, like me, you would have most likely put on some weight in December.

With all that festive feasting, how could you not?! Alcohol, cakes, indulgent meals…. yep, December is kinda notorious for that. So by the time January comes, one of the top few tasks on most peoples’ New Year’s Resolutions list would be “to lose weight”. I know it sure is on mine! I’ve lost a significant amount of weight last year, but my progress got kinda stagnant towards the end part of it… however, a new year is for revived opportunities, so say goodbye to complacency and hello PERSEVERANCE!

In case you don’t know, here’s how much weight I’ve lost:

“HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODEHHHHH!!! NOW PASS ME A BURGER OR I’LL EAT YOUR DOG.” - the old me on the left

LOL. I knowwwwwwwwwww. It’s awful. And kinda (very) scary. Trust me, when I was scrolling through my old photos trying to find the fattest full body shot of myself I could find, my jaw dropped to the floor when I saw this. Like, I always knew I was gaining weight, but I could NEVER fathom just how much. You know that quote, “You don’t know what you’ve lost until its gone?” Yeah, in my case its about the amount of fats. I’m not sure of the exact number but I think I’ve lost approximately 10-11kg since then.

To be fair, this was probably THE most unflattering picture of me ever taken…. AND the worst dress I’ve ever worn, in the worst possible angle. It’s amazingly cringe-worthy on so many levels. Not even just cringe-worthy, GASP-inducing! I was really big but I don’t think I really walked around looking like that everyday…. there are plenty of other pictures of me looking like a normal fat person (if that makes sense lol), but this one REALLY takes the cake. This one stole the whole cake and ate it by herself hahaha. I contemplated over whether I should post this picture or not, but I figured I have nothing to lose since I’m not that person any more. I am the much healthier and happier girl on the right side of the pic now! The pic in the purple dress was taken 31st December on the last day of 2012. Within 10 months, I think I made good progress and I’m proud of myself. I thought I would have binged and caved in to my old habits eventually and my weight would rebound back up again, but I’ve maintained it surprisingly well! In my old post, I mentioned that I aim to lose 7kg this year, so that is my new goal I have to work towards in 2013.

Quite a lot of people have been asking me lately, “How did you do it?” (I suppose some thought I’d never able to do it) so I decided to do a blog post with some of my own tips that helped me along the way, to provide some motivation to the people out there that truly need it. I’m not reaching out to annoying girls who are perfectly normal sized but complain that they are fat, I hope to reach out to actually overweight people who have a physical and mental condition that they want to mend. From the messages I’ve been getting, I know some of you feel helpless, but you are not. Everyone already KNOWS how to lose weight – eat less, exercise more. It’s just that simple. But what people want to hear is other straightforward baby steps that they can take so that the task seems more feasible, and not too daunting. What they want to hear is an easier solution. I can tell you this, losing weight is anything but easy, especially if you do it the good old fashioned way (excluding slimming pills, diet suppressants, detox teas, liposuction, fad diets, bulimia) but taking small steps so that your body gets accustomed to your new lifestyle change will make it much easier. I still have a considerable amount of work to do and progress to make before I’m well satisfied with my body, so I will have to refer back to this list whenever my strength happens to waiver this year…. which I pray will not happen, but I know it will some time or another, I am only human. I don’t claim to be a diet / body / health / nutritionist expert of sorts, but this list below has worked well for me, and I hope it will for you too.

Shiberty’s list of 10 ways to lose weight effectively:

1) Drink more water in between and right before meals.

Water is the healthiest and most natural diet suppressant.
• Not only does drinking enough water aid in keeping your skin clear, body hydrated and your brain functioning properly, it also results in you feeling full for longer periods of time. When I feel like snacking in between meals, I drink a lot of cold, CARBONATED water to make my cravings go away. 80% of the time, it works. 20% of the time, unforunately I succumb to my temptations. The gas and bubbles from the drink makes me burp and kind of bloated, which is a fab solution when you’re hungry although you’re not supposed to be… it tricks your body into thinking that you’re not. Also, drink half a glass of cold water before you have any meal. It WILL decrease the amount of food you will eat quite significantly. I try to drink carbonated cold water whenever I can, it works better than still water.

2) Skip supper.

Everyone knows that to lose weight, you have to eat less in general.
• Most importantly, you have to watch what you eat at night, from 7pm onwards. In the day, your metabolism rate is much higher and burns up calories faster than it would at night. The excess calories that don’t get used by the time you sleep will be stored as sugar in your body, and converted into fat cells eventually. I can’t tell you to skip dinner because that would be unhealthy, but have a light dinner made of mainly protein and vegetables, and ALWAYS skip supper when you can!!! A good way to make sure you don’t succumb to supper cravings is to sleep earlier. Wake up and have breakfast the next morning instead. People who head to bed after 1am will definitely feel kinda hungry by that time, unless they had a late dinner, which is also not good. When I feel hungry at night, I go to sleep. You can’t feel hungry (or any conscious feeling at all) when you’re asleep. If you’re too hungry to fall asleep, which happens to me some times… for gods sake, fix yourself something light to snack on then off to bed you go!

3) Weigh yourself everyday.

When I was gaining weight, I kept myself off the weighing scale for as long as possible..
• I ran far away from it whenever I saw one. I couldn’t face the truth. Not for a long time. But now, I jump on the weighing scale everyday, for a reality check. If you want to lose weight, you HAVE to face the truth – that your body is in an unhealthy state right now, and you NEED to do something about it. Look at your weight. Is it a number you’d like to see? No it is not. It sucks. It’s so damn high, what the hell happened to you? What number would look a lot better on the scale, and what dress would look really good on you if your weight actually were the number you hope for it to be? Plan a weekly target for your weight loss. Don’t get far fetched and think about how much weight you want to lose in the next half a year. Start slow, but steady. Start by losing 500g this week. 500g is really easy, you could lose 500g in a day or two if all you ate was a moderate amount of salad, fruits, protein and water. When you lose your first 500g, you’ll instantly feel a mini sense of triumph. And that sense of achievement and self-fulfillment will become addictive, as you see your weight drop more and more every day, even if its only by 200g sometimes. If you wanna get thinner, you weigh yourself everyday to monitor your progress, to make sure you’re on the right track. You don’t leave it to chance and luck and hope weight loss just happen to you. If you’re not seeing enough results, TRY HARDER. Just like how if you wanna get rich, or when you’re doing a business, you calculate your finances and sales profit all the time to keep track of your record!

4) Eat when you need and want to, but in small, controlled amounts.

When you need to eat:
• It’s better to have 4 or 5 small meals throughout the day, than to have 1 or 2 gigantic ones. Your body breaks down the food easier and faster when it comes in moderated amounts. A sure bet to lose weight is to snack frequently on healthier options in between lunch and dinner, so you don’t end up eating too much at night. Snack on dried seaweed, cheeses, fruits, anything that doesn’t have a super high amount of carbs / sugar will do just fine. Or drink carbonated water, like I said! Most people look forward to dinner because its their biggest and most indulgent meal… That’s gonna have to change!

When you want to eat:
• If you have a craving that lasts for hours or even days and it just won’t seem to go away, satisfy it. If you feel like ice cream, have some ice cream. Share it with a friend. Don’t order your usual 2 scoops of ice cream. Have one scoop instead. If you can bring yourself to, have only a few spoonfuls, enough to satisfy your craving and keep yourself sane. Sustainable dieting is so important. Most of the time, people give up their diets halfway because it drove them insane. They felt like they couldn’t eat anything at all. So I’m taking a different approach and telling you, EAT if you really feel like you want to. But always learn how to moderate. If I’m dying for pasta, (one of my favorite foods) I will have pasta for lunch, in a small portion much lesser than what I’d normally have if I let myself indulge. Then I’ll opt for a low-carb meal for dinner to make up for my high intake of carbohydrates in the afternoon. This way, you’ll find its much easier to adhere to your diet for prolonged periods of time.

5) Don’t over order when you’re dining out in restaurants.

Don’t bite off more than you can chew.
• When you look at the menu in a restaurant, you wanna order literally EVERYTHING. You let your gluttony get the better of you, and you end up ordering more than you can eat. Damn it! Over-ordered again. But the food is already in front of you, on the table….. You’re gonna have to pay for that anyway……..  Mama always taught you not to waste food. Gah, you hate seeing perfectly good and yummy food being thrown away. Hate wasting food, hate wasting food. Must finish everything. So you reach out into the table, and you keep putting food into your mouth, even when you should have and could have stopped 300 calories ago. You’re not eating because you’re still hungry, you’re eating just because the food is there. It’s in front of you. A natural reaction. If this scenario sounds like you, then you’re JUST like me. Stop doing that.

• Don’t order your starter, main course and dessert all at the start of the meal. Order a main course first, then think about whether you’re hungry enough to have a side dish. If you are, why not share it with your dining partner? Don’t even think about dessert until you’re done with all the savory food. Think ya got space in your tummy? Drink half a glass of water. If you still insist on dessert after all of that – fine, go ahead. But chances are, you won’t.  When you think you’ve had quite enough but afraid you may reach out for more, proclaim loudly, “I’m really full now.” I do that when I’m with a group of friends and it prevents me from eating more coz if I do I’d look really stupid, and a liar. LOL. Or, simply ask the waiter to clear your table. Voila. The food isn’t in your face any more, so you don’t have to think about whether you should continue eating. Problem solved.

6) Stop eating when you feel adequately satiated, not when you feel full or bloated.

Your stomach is like a muscle you can train.
• If you persistently have smaller meals, your stomach will naturally shrink as well, and it won’t need as much food to become full. The first time you cut down on your usual amount of intake, you’ll feel slightly unsatisfied or reluctant, but you’ll get used to it very quickly. You’ll feel the results of this theory in a mere week, try it. It does’t have to be a drastic difference. If you love rice, and are used to having it all the time for dinner, then instead of a whole bowl, reduce it to 3/4 bowl. After a week or two, reduce it to half a bowl. It will make a world of difference in time to come.

• Some people don’t know when to stop eating. (*raises hands* I am one of them!) They gorge themselves until they’re crazily bloated. You should actually stop eating when you feel adequately SATIATED. What does adequately satiated mean? When your tummy isn’t growling any more. When you feel like you’ve got enough in your stomach to keep you going for at least another hour or two, not the whole damn day. When hunger isn’t an issue, and when you can go back to functioning normally. Stop eating at that point. You don’t need to be FULL all the time. Eating till you’re full isn’t satisfying your body’s needs, it is satisfying your own endless greed.

7) Pick up a friendly or competitive sport with a friend.

Hate going running, or to the gym?
• Me too. The weather is wayyy too hot and humid outside to go running, and the gym is just…. well, boring. Sounds like excuses? They probably are. So rid yourself of excuses and pick up a totally fun sport with a friend! You’ll end up doing it for the fun factor, rather than exercising, which becomes a byproduct. I some times play table tennis with the boyfriend, and badminton with friends, and burn more calories than I notice. Other fun activities such as swimming works great as well – as long as you’re moving and using energy, you’re burning up calories. Exercise becomes a lot more bearable when you have a friend to motivate you – I prefer competitive sports so that I have a reason to perform even better and try harder each time we play! Find a spontaneous and reliable friend who’s willing to commit to a new activity with you. It’s important you find someone you can rely on to always show up, because if your friend / work out partner starts getting lazy, chances are you will get affected as well. Yoga? Soccer? Pilates? Tennis? Whatever you fancy. Just find something, and do it. Anything but sitting on your ass.

8) Lower your carbohydrates intake.

“Is butter a carb?” – Regina George, Mean Girls.
• No, butter isn’t a carb, Regina. Butter = fat. Technically, eating foods high in fat (oily friend chicken, fatty char siew) doesn’t make you as fat as eating carbohydrates does. If you made Person A eat KFC everyday, and Person B eat Pasta Mania everyday, Person B will most likely put on more weight than Person A because of their high amount of carbohydrates intake from the pasta. The biggest factor of my weight loss is definitely going on a low-carbohydrate diet. Low carb doesn’t mean NO carb, it just means I’ve reduced my carb intake significantly while still consuming enough to keep my body running normally. It is imperative that a person who wants to lose weight efficiently understands what carbohydrates do to your body. So let’s have a little science lesson.

What ARE carbs? Main sources of carbohydrates include noodles, rice, pasta, bread, potatoes, sweet potatoes, any starchy or sugary food. Sugar = also carbs. So that means an innocent looking piece of fruit or vegetable has a certain amount of carbs as well, for it is naturally sweet. Let’s use an apple as an example. But that doesn’t mean that eating an apple will make you fat –  there are good carbs, and bad carbs.

Good Carbs AKA Complex Carbs
• We can reap the health benefits of good carbs by choosing carbohydrates full of fiber. These carbs that get absorbed slowly into our systems, avoiding spikes in blood sugar levels. Examples: whole grains, vegetables, fruits, and beans.

Bad Carbs AKA Processed Carbs
• We can minimize the health risk of bad carbs by eating fewer refined and processed carbohydrates that strip away beneficial fiber. Examples: white bread and white rice.

Carbohydrate Addiction
• The consumption of carbohydrates can actually cause an addiction for many people, because of the serotonin release they induce. Serotonin is a brain chemical that improves the mood and induces a relaxing effect by decreasing stress and anxiety as well as reducing pain. People with low serotonin levels may therefore reach for more and more carbohydrates in an attempt to feel better, which can eventually lead to weight gain.

Fat Storage
• After eating carbohydrates, the pancreas responds by producing insulin, which is mainly responsible for regulating blood sugar levels by letting the carbohydrates, broken down into sugar, enter the cells of the liver and muscles to be used for energy. However, insulin also has the role of regulating fat storage. High levels of circulating insulin, which are associated with the consumption of carbohydrates, help with the storage of carbohydrates and excess calories not required for immediate use as fat. In other words, carbohydrates promote the release of insulin, which in turn promotes fat storage.

(Source 1, Source 2.)

These days, I don’t even have to exercise excessively or starve myself to lose weight – I just have to lower my carbs intake, and I usually see weight loss results within days. I’ve lost as much as 2 kilos in a week simply by reducing processed carbs, and eating more protein, fat + complex carbs such as fruits and vegetables. Coupled with increased exercising, the results can be quite drastic. Like an 11kg sort of drastic-ally wonderful. Losing weight isn’t the difficult part, it’s MAINTAINING the weight that is the biggest hurdle. After losing some, you’ll gain some back… but your aim is to keep most of it off!

9) Always wear nice clothes that actually fit you.

Why? I’ll tell you why.

The Clothes Know Best
• The easiest, idiot proof way to tell if you’ve gained weight is trying to squeeze into a pair of jeans, or a dress that would normally fit you just fine. You don’t even have to voluntarily step onto a weighing scale to find out – your clothes will instantly tell you. Now, if you’re the type who likes to wear baggy, loose-fitting stuff all the time, your weight gain may not be immediately obvious. And it doesn’t feel good when your clothes that used to fit, don’t any more. If you know what’s good for you, you’ll do something about it.

Baggage Allowance
• When I was a UK Size 14, some times I’d buy a dress that was UK Size 16 just in case I got even fatter. It was almost as if I was prepping myself for future weight gain. These days, I swear by all UK size 10 dresses, even if some times they’re a little tight around my hips or chest. On several occasions I wore dresses so tight fitting, I could barely breathe in them. BUT I’M NOT GOING TO BUY A GOD DAMN SIZE UP ANY MORE. Doing so is pretty much giving myself the OK to become fatter again. I will not accept this behavior from myself. What I wanna do, is downsize even more. If my dress is tight, I’m going to lose enough weight so that it fits perfectly, and hopefully one day it will be loose, like all my other now-redundant UK size 12s, 14s, and 16s!!! I have quite a lot of clothes that don’t fit me at all any more, mainly ranging from UK 14 to 16s. I know how hard it is to find nice clothes when you’re  of a certain size, so if you’re interested in buying my pretty clothes off me (all in perfect condition), drop me a mail at Shiberty@hotmail.com.

Wear Nice Clothes To Feel Good About Yourself
• There was a period of time I recycled the same old boring, ugly clothes over and over again, because those would be all that’d fit me. Fashion didn’t even matter to me, and I just let myself go. No make up, hair was shit, fashion sense was also shit… It was severely depressing. Even if you’re a big girl, you deserve to indulge in fashion! Pamper yourself and wear nice clothing. It will inspire you to shed some pounds so that you may look even better in future outfits. Completely letting yourself go and not caring how you end up looking or feeling like, is the worst possible thing you could do for yourself. Don’t let yourself go, don’t lose hope. I know its inevitable that you lose some self-confidence when you gain weight, which is why you need to regain your self-love back. Most girls don’t bother to lose weight because they don’t BELIEVE that they are worth the change, or that they CAN do it. Losing weight is 60% mindset and willpower, 25% dieting, 15% exercise.

10) Celebrate every victory!

…No matter how small.
• Keeping your morale up is vital for weight loss. Always think positive, and give yourself rewards for seemingly little achievements. You didn’t have supper last night? GOOD FOR YOU. You had grilled fish instead of pasta? Splendid. Buy yourself a little gift (a healthy cookbook?). Tell your boyfriend, girlfriend, mom, dad, sister, brother or friend about it. Get them to support you. You won’t survive this journey on your own. Don’t beat yourself up over little mistakes, such as failing to resist your favorite dessert after dinner time. That’s okay. Just exercise tomorrow to burn the calories off. Don’t blame yourself if you’re not straight away seeing the results you were hoping for. It will not be easy, it will not be quick, but it will be completely worth every single tear and sweat drop that came out of this. By the end of it all, you’ll see that I was right. Like I’ve said before, you didn’t put on all that weight in one day, so don’t expect only a day to burn it off. …But it’s always better to be sore the next day, than sorry.

Aside from all that I’ve mentioned above, of course I have to highlight that I was extremely fortunate enough to have undergone acupuncture weight management treatment with Eu Yan Sang and be their featured blogger, which gave me the push I desperately needed! Read about my weight loss journey with EYS here: Post 1, Post 2, Post 3. Oh, and if you have a friend whom you know that is struggling with weight issues or someone who needs some encouragement and inspiration – do me a favor, & help me share this post with them!

Always remember: Your body is constantly a work in progress.

No slim or trim figure lasts forever unless you bother to maintain it. And no overweight or obese person will be fat or thick forever either, unless you continue stuffing your face and gorging your body with unhealthy food day after day. I’m on the same path, just like you. We are all in this together. I hope by the end of 2013, I can look back on my current pictures and say “Look how much smaller my arms / thighs have gotten!”. TODAY is always the right day to start making a change. If you don’t do it in 2013, when will it ever happen? A year from now, when you look back, you’ll wish you’d started a year ago. Take it from a person who once proclaimed to the world that she loved food more than herself. I still love food to the heavens, hell and back. And I’m really fucking lazy when it comes to physical activities to boot. You can do it if you want to. But only if you really, REALLY want it badly enough. So ask yourself…. do you, now?

Hear this, and repeat after me: I’M DOING THIS FOR ME.

Not because some assholes are calling me mean names. Not because I’m being pressured into it. I’m doing this out of my own good sense and will because I’ve finally had enough of my own lame excuses. Because I need to start loving myself properly again. Because I deserve to be healthy, and happy.

Good luck!!!!!!!!

Jess
