Penang Trip – Part 1

Oh heeewwoooo lovelies!!!

First of all, I’m terribly apologetic for the lack of updates. I feel so bad because I’ve been receiving a crazy amount of ♥ from you guys yet I feel like I’ve been neglecting my blog a little.

Thank you so much for all the encouraging messages, emails, comments, etc!!! I LUFF YEW!

I was on a short getaway holiday with family to escape all my nasty feelings back at home and it really worked wonders because I’m so much happier now!!!!

Everyone should take holidays once in awhile, it’s the ultimate de-stresser, even if it’s an affordable short one to Batam. (cheap spa treatments there!)

We went to Penang, Malaysia... don’t ask me why coz my mum chose the location. o_o

Honestly I didn’t think much of the place and wasn’t sure how excited I should be but I ended up having a blast!!! I think it was the company, good food, luxurious resort and the fact that everything was paid for by my mum hehe

This trip was really impromptu (come to think of it most of my trips are) and it was organized by mum because she knew I loved the beach and how much I needed a break.

They were planning to go to KL originally and I wanted to sit out, but she changed the location for me and I was all like, “beach resort?? hell YEAH!!”

Now I present to you, my Penang Trip – Part 1! ♥

I’ve a new character to introduce on my blog – Everybody say hello to Janice!!!!

Not that she can actually hear you… :P

She’s my brother’s girlfriend and I adore her! She’s chirpy and sweet.. and very easy to get along with ♥

Yay isn’t she cute? She’s pretty, quite short and super skinny, I feel like a giant pregnant walrus beside her wtf.

This was in the cab on our way to Changi Airport…

I love living and the East and staying so close to the airport!

I just ♥ my condo in general. From the airport to home = 10 mins. Despite living like 10 mins away from the airport I’ve never heard a plane from my house before!

My bro and Jan~

Throughout the trip I took 93245792784 pictures for them wtf -_-

Walk around with a DSLR hanging from your neck and people will automatically assign you as their official photographer. And there’s so little pics of ME!! Boohoo.

Totally not enough to fulfill my narcissistic needs lol.

I like going out with other bloggers because they’re always so enthusiastic about taking shots, and not just any shot, NICE shots! With proper angle and lighting. So hard to find people like that nowadays.

You ask a normal person to take pictures for you and they look at you with an expression on their face going, “You’re so troublesome!!”

Meh.

Like I said, I was the official photographer for the trip.

Ok la at least they’re a cute couple.. I would hate to have to keep taking photos of unphotogenic people LOL

With mummy and Jan checking in at the counter!!!

I was blinking :(

But it’s a pretty funny expression haha I look high off my nuts or something. My camera needs a couple of seconds to Auto-Focus the shot so you can’t really tell when it’s snapping because sometimes it takes 2 secs, other times like 7 whole seconds -_-

I think other people are so used to instant-shutter point and shoot cameras that they get confused while handling mine!!

They’re always like “why haven’t take yet ahhhhh”..…….

It’s focusing. PATIENCE, my friend!!!

Them doing the check-in for us… while I goof behind them!! Like the kid that I am.

I like going on holiday with my mum because she handles all of the authoritative matters! She books the flights and the hotels and the tours.. plus pays for them too lol mad awesome.

I feel soo grown up whenever I travel on my own but with them I can be a 10 year old and nobody really cares.

I like it when people always ask me, “Are you hungry? What do you feel like eating? Are you tired? What do you want to do?” and people giving me wake up calls, etc.

What can I say? I’m too used to being pampered. *not shy about it at all*

Jan and I!!!

You like my smiley face jumper? Hehe.

I needed a reason to smile when I was feeling shitty, and how could I NOT smile wearing such a cute outfit?!

Thank you Mummy and Uncle John for the trip!!! ♥ ♥ ♥ Appreciate it sooo much

This is my O HAI I’M GOING ON HOLIDAY HAHAHAHA I IZ HAPPY!!! face.

Had lots of time to spare before we had to board the plane because my mum is mad kiasu, she ALWAYS rushes us like mad everywhere and in the end we have nothing to do because we are always at least an hour early at the airport!!

So lunch at Soup Restaurant it is!

Ginger boiled chicken…… yuummmmm I usually hate ginger but this is oh so yummy!

I HAVE to order this + ah kong fan shu ye + claypot tofu when I’m there.

Claypot Tofu!!

Does anyone know what they put in it to make it so yummy? It’s like really sweet and starchy.

Thought we could board our flight immediately after lunch but no… still a lot of time to spare -_-

I ♥ Singapore’s airport!!!

I’ve been to quite a few places around the world and am devastatingly disappointed by how substandard other airports are.

Airports are so important because it’s the first impression you get when you step onto a country’s land for the first time!

They’re small, dirty / old looking, boring, and makes me feel like their country is a depressing place. Singapore’s air port is clean, with lots of restaurants and shopping and wonderfully air conditioned and green plants / fountains everywhere…

Lovely :)

Cute plushies for sale at a souvenir shop!

Like I said.. plants everywhere! Does so much for the “relaxing” atmosphere!

Bro waiting with our luggage while mum shops around…

I think that was her intention, to arrive early so we have no choice but to wait for her to shop. Crafty!!!

Mum and Uncle John watch-shopping in Omega..

Mum’s like, “I want this one!!” and he’s like “Oh FML.”

LOL

Never understood peoples fascination with watches. Isn’t it uncomfortable??

Plus if you wanna look at the time you can always take your phone out. And they’re so expensive!!

I can understand if guys like em because it’s about the only jewellery they can wear without looking too gay but females have better fashion statements to wear!!

Sorry but watches are so not fashionable to me even if they’re worth 8 thousand dollars and dressed up with bling.

I’m not sure if this one was the piece she picked in the end but I quite like it coz it’s elegant simple. Most watches are plain ugly :(

Still bored…. so I take pictures of my bro and Jan doing nothing in particular. Why do people get annoyed when others point a camera in their faces??

Personally I’d be very flattered, I love the attention and would pretend to be candidly posing hahaha

Realized what boring photographic subjects they were so I moved on to something better. My own face :)

LOL I’m so laughing at how stupid I sound

And yes, that is me sitting in a high class watch shop placing my bulky DSLR on their counter top snapping vain pics with self-timer pretending to be blissfully unaware that my picture is being taken.

Oscard award for shamelessness, anyone?

Hello baby!!! ♥

I’m talking to my camera… not you.

:) xoxo

Digressing a little…

I was at a cosmetic shop wanting to buy foundation for the first time in my life, so I asked the make up artist working there, “What shade should I buy that would best suit my skin tone?

To which he replied with a funny expression on his face, “You don’t need foundation.”

You shoulda seen his face! I didn’t know to laugh or to be flattered.

I have an obsession with head bands.

I think the top part of my hair is absolutely disgustingly out-of-shape and flat and my fringe can be pretty gross so I almost always go out with a headband pulling my fringe all up.

Should I cut bangs?? Usually that solves my gross fringe problem… but I don’t wanna look childish :/

SAY CHEESE!

After what seemed like forever, we board the plane!

Passport? Check.

Boarding Pass? Check.

Took this picture before we flew..

I’ve flown in planes at least 5 times this year alone but I get really nervous before each flight still. I have a phobia and this weird feeling in my gut that things will go horribly wrong.

Then again I’m afraid of everything exploding in my face, even microwaves and cars so I guess it’s not such a big deal…

How can people be so casual about being so fucking high up in the air?!?!? Scares me shitless every time!!

Sitting in the window seat makes me feel a lot better because the stunning views is a great distraction from my vigorously thumping heart.

This picture is the perfect backdrop for an inspiring quote!!! Something like…. “The sky is not the limit.”

Hahah okay that was bad. Maybe something better like, “Tomorrow is a new day.”

LOL nvm I fail at quotes. But one from Tumblr would be nice!

Such a beautiful clear day!!!

I usually fly in the night so I never get such views.. I didn’t realize before this how much I adore clouds :)

So fluffy and makes me feel all dreamy-ish!!! I wanna bounce up and down on them.

I love this shot!!

Actually I love a lot of shots from this trip hehe.

There’s plenty more gorgeous pics coming up in the next few posts :)

Interesting cloud formations!

Apparently they all mean different things, like whether it’s going to rain or not..

Who else likes trying to make shapes out of clouds? Usually I lie on my back in the swimming pool, just floating in the water…

Then I look up into the sky and stare into the clouds with my sunnies on (coz my eyes are very sensitive to light) and usually I see elephants coz they’re fat, lol!

I’m jealous!!

I want somebody special’s arm to hold on a flight too. I get so nervous it’s not even funny wtf. The slightest bit of turbulence makes my heart explode and I grab onto the handrests for dear life.

Btw I asked my brother what would happen if we crashed into the water and he said that we’d float because all planes float.

FOR REAL?? I tried google-ing but couldn’t find a definitive answer. Will airbuses float?

Every time I see an air stewardess I sing Busted’s “Air Hostess” song in my head, heh

Not that there’s anything wrong with this particular one, but I think that what they say about air stewardesses having a certain “standard” is completely bullshit. Maybe it existed in the past but not anymore.

Any fail-english-speaking ah lian also can be an air stewardess nowadays… and totally not pretty or well mannered / educated at all!!

And I really think they should stick to a uniform hairstyle and make up code. Dramatic faux lashes are tacky and so is blue eyeshadow :/

I wonder if first class passengers on airlines like Emirates would get super hot air stewardesses!

My on board snack… tuna sandwich + apple juice

Yay for vintage looking photos!

It was a very short flight, only about an hour so before I could get over the fact that we were flying few thousand feet in the air, we were landing already.

A mini rainbow effect greeted me as we landed!!! Totally made me smile :)

The first thing I noticed about Penang was how they had HOUSES AND SHOPS right next to the landing runway.

Like seriously 100m away or even lesser, they looked so dangerously close!!!!

Safety precautions = FAIL!

One wrong landing and all those people would get run over, how horrifying!

Plus wouldn’t all the aeroplanes taking off and landing be deafening?

Waiting for our luggage..

Penang’s a lot cleaner than Kuala Lumpur, and infinitely safer also, it’s considered the 2nd safest city in Malaysia!

Very comforting fact because my mum is always telling me to beware of rapists and muggers in M’sia wtf makes me damn scared everywhere I go

Our hotel sent a van to pick us up and off we went on a 40 mins journey to the hotel!

Their city is quite interesting, at times you see very modern high-rise buildings and right next to it is a worn out old looking kampung hut kind of house lol.

Fell asleep on our way there…

I love falling asleep in cars because when I wake up I feel like I’ve been sleeping for ages when it’s only been like 15 minutes or so!

Best power nap :)

Camwhore shots before I fell asleep!

Took this with my compact cam because it’s stupidly hard to take self shots with a DSLR -_-

Fact : Everyone looks good with shit cameras like webcam and fuzzy pixelated pictures. No photoshop required.

…And we arrive at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sayang Resort & Spa! Ta-dah!!!

Extremely inviting lobby!

The cozy atmosphere made everyone feel right at home and even sleepy :)

But I was more excited than anything. I kept gushing to Janice, “oh wow it’s so beaaauuuttiiifffuuullll!!!!”

Checking in!!

There was a hiccup with our rooms so it took awhile… So I ran around excitedly snapping pics everywhere I went ^_^

Saw this pretty plant on the check in counter and was snapping a close up of it when this Japanese guy approached me and said, “Same camera!!!!” with a big smile on his face.

He could barely speak english but he held up his own Canon 550d and gave me a thumbs up while excitedly telling his friends about it. I think he must be in his 40′s!!!

It was so cute haha.

Picture spam time!!!

ISN’T IT BEAUTIFUL????

It was so massive that I only managed to take these few pics before we had to go up to our room! The other side of the resort is even more luxurious I wish I had taken pics there :(

More pics of the resort in my next post!

Such an exquisite 5 star hotel!! I’ve been to other 5 stars but they didn’t feel quite as cozy as this, I guess it’s because this is a BEACH side resort, that’s why they have so many wooden furniture and plants and other awesome modern yet traditional touches everywhere!

I ♥ it so much.. wanted to stay there forever :)

2 more pics of the same plant from before because I love the colours!

So many different angles and ways to shoot a single plant :)

Went up to our rooms, took a short nap and changed before we headed down to check out the beach!!

We couldn’t really do any day-time activities because by it was sunset by then. It was all good though, I managed to take some nice sunset pics!

….”And if you die out there in the sea it is so not our problem.”

lol

I was so shocked to see a horse on the beach!!!

Horse back riding on the beach by the sunset sounds awesome, it was really affordable too, but I didn’t because we were going for dinner soon and I wasn’t so sure about it…

That thing around the horses mouth looks painful and I felt a little sorry for it :(

I’m not an animal rights kind of person but I don’t like seeing animals suffer either. Does anyone know if this sort of handling hurts the horses??

Besides horse back riding, they also had ATV riding (yes on the beach!! wtf), parasailing, jet skiing, banana boating.. all sorts of fun stuff!!!

I was realllyyyyy eager to try them all but they were closing for the day.

Oh well there’s always tomorrow!!

Me and kor kor! (lol)

This would’ve been a gorgeous shot if it wasn’t for the indians behind hahah they were the ones in charge of handling all your sports-for-hire needs.

But I guess it adds charisma to the photo.

People say we look nothing alike. What do you think?

He looks a lot like my mum though… I suspect my mum picked me up from a rubbish chute when I was younger :P

And I should’ve smiled with my teeth!!! I look too fierce in that flowery sweet dress.. which is like my new fav dress ♥

Sunset on Batu Ferringhi ♥ ♥ ♥ :)

It was a pretty nice beach which is surprising because it wasn’t that far from the city!! And we all know water near the city = gross.

We went during the wet season, so the water and sand wasn’t as clean therefore no snorkeling or swimming in the sea but still passable!! Better than Sentosa.

I bet this beach would be gorgeous during summer.

That’s what you get for going out with new couples…

They’re always whispering and cuddling and kissing in front of you omfg get a room!!!

Actually they did get a hotel room but I was unfortunately sharing their room with them.

FML x 9999999999999

Wow I totally dig the sunset glow in this picture :)

You can see the sunset progression here!

A little photoshop works wonders ♥

When it got dark, we went to have dinner!!

The hotel manager recommended a hawker center a few streets down and normally I’m very skeptical when it comes to hawker centers but that place was a

FOOD HEAVEEEEENN ♥ ♥ ♥

It was crowded, a little dirty and veerrryy hot and humid but omfg the food was completely worth it.

I was surprised to see so many white people dining there… I LOL-ed @ them because a lot of them ordered pizza instead of local delights.

Fat juicy grilled prawns!

Oyster omelette… best I’ve eva had!! Soooo hungry as I’m typing this.

Why do I always do this of myself?? I’m jealous of myself for the food I’ve eaten in the past!

Fuzzy pic of mum coz the lighting was really bad.. and coz I was hungry lol

I think this was their version of hokkien mee?

EVERYTHING WAS STUPIDLY YUMMY!!!

It’s so close to our hotel, it’s cheap, it’s totally delish and possibly the best part is that you tell them the table number you’re seated at and they BRING the dishes to you, something that almost never happens in hawker centers anymore.

I hate standing around waiting for food.

Me nom noming my Penang Laksa!!!
Very pleased indeed.

I knew people said Penang = Foodie Paradize but I did not believe them until I ate their local dishes myself.

It pwnz Singapore’s hawker for sure. It’s not coconutty, it kinda tastes like fish soup + tom yum and the noodles are soooo springy it’s like mini udon but better.

WHERE CAN I BUY SUCH NOODLES IN SINGAPORE?

Oh plzzzzzzz tell me!! The texture is to die for!! Even the penang laksa sold in Singapore doesn’t use the same kind of chewy noodles :((

Even their indian food is different!!

This butter chicken is a lot more watery and tastes like a whole new dish but mad freakin yumz as well.

We ordered a shit heap, but those were the only pics I took.. I know they don’t look that spectacular in pictures but you have to try it for yourself!!

I WOULD FLY TO PENANG AGAIN JUST TO EAT AT THAT HAWKER CENTER!

Yes, I love it THAT much.

After one of the best meals I’ve had in ages, (I lie. I have fucking good meals all the time. The way I’m quadrupling in size says it all) we went shopping at their night market!!!

Fake branded hangbags, t-shirts, decorations, handcrafted items, everything under the sun. It was really big, and it reminded me of a mini-Bangkok!!

Colorful and bustling with life.

It was 9 or 10pm yet everything’s still open. Gotta love Asia :)

Everything you’d ever need for a getaway is a few streets away, an amazing hotel, a nice beach with lots of sea sports, cheap market shopping, cheap massage parlours and salons, night clubs and bars, great cheap food.. did I mention cheap???

It’s like a hidden gem!

I’d enjoy Penang so much more if it wasn’t for the heat O_O

That’s the problem I have with most asian countries. So hot I could melt and die.

Super pretty Japanese flower hand painted plates!! Such intricate details. After I took this pic, the owner yelled, “NO FOTOS!!!”

Most shops don’t allow photos so no more pics.

We walked and shopped till our feet couldn’t take it anymore, and we happened to spot a massage parlour just as we were gonna go back to our hotel!!!!

Got a 1 hour massage and it was sooo gooodd!!!! ♥

Again, no pics because how weird is it to take a picture of somebody massaging your foot? Lol. But it was very well received by my aching body!

Shopping destroys your feet.

Ended the day with a trishaw ride!! I’ve never been on a trishaw before and I was pretty excited hehe.

The experience was heaps more fun than I thought! I’m gonna take it every time I see it now :D

If you don’t know what a trishaw is, it’s like this little open-air cart that you can sit in, pushed along by a bicycle that your driver is pedaling!

Great way to do sightseeing in relatively short distances :)

In Penang, trishaws are considered the “Kings of the Roads” because they usually only carry tourists and are verryyyy daring when it comes to cutting into lanes and completely blocking oncoming traffic.

They have no problem making an impromptu U-turn and stopping 10 cars dead in their tracks for their own convenience… that’s what happened to us!!

They’re almost crazy lol luckily Penang drivers are used to these sort of reckless driving and didn’t seem to mind at all.

Uncle John in a separate trishaw!

See what I said about reckless driving? LOL

Weeee so breezy and fun!!!!

Mum totally uninterested to camwhore with me because she’s intrigued by the different sights and sounds we were passing lol

Our trishaw driver and his cute umbrella!

I get so excited by the littlest things haha.

I had the biggest smile on my face throughout the ride :)

Back at the hotel!!!

It was decorated with all these flowers and twinkling nights. Very pretty in the dark~

Our driver kindly offered to take a picture for us. What a friendly guy.. Penang people are surprisingly friendly!

Went up to the hotel room and plonked onto the bed immediately!!!

Why are hotel beds so comfy dammit.

WHAT A DAY!!!

Tiring, fun, relaxing, and most definitely enjoyable.. all at the same time.

Ordered room service (yes, we are gluttons) and then it was shower + sleepy time!!!!

ZzzzzzZzzZZzzZZzzz…………..

Had a really good night’s sleep. I woke up 3 hours later though wtf my sleeping patterns are effed up coz in Singapore I usually only sleep at 6am.

We’ve come to the end of Day 1, will update the rest of the awesome trip soon.

I love holidays, haven’t had a good one with family in ages and this was so amazing. Quality time spent together :)

xoxo,
Jess

Snow at Fall’s Creek!!

I’ve never seen snow in my whole life before.

Well, I saw flurries of snow in Las Vegas once, and I’ve seen snow in Chicago from inside a train, but not the REAL kinda snow – like up there in the alps, where you get snow storms, and vast endless mountains absolutely covered with fluffy white snow!!

Of course, all that changed when we took a road trip from Melbourne to Fall’s Creek - a ski resort about 5 hours away from Melbourne City!

As usual, the drive there was rather scenic… you’ve no idea how pretty their country side is :)

Just evergreen cascading hills and cows and sheeps and cows and birds!!

After what seemed like forever, we finally reached Fall’s Creek and checked into our apartment (we managed to get one super last minute – amazing! a cheap one too)

How “snow ski resort” does this look?! Haha.

There’s 2 floors, with like 4 bedrooms.. pretty good deal. Quite cosy indeed for the low price we paid, like 600 AUD I think?! Snow ski resort prices are exorbitant!!

Ok, so the first thing I noticed when I got out of the car and stepped onto like 4 inches full of thick snow was when you don’t have proper snow shoes.how HARD it is to walk in the snow

I was wearing boots, a rather smooth and flat based one, so I was slipping all over the place wtf!!!

Each step has to be carefully taken otherwise I’d find myself in a slippery wet pool of snow and getting up is even harder than walking itself.

The second thing I noticed was how it wasn’t as cold as I expected!

Sure it’s super cold when you’re up in the mountains and there’s a snow storm, but really, normally it’s very bearable. I could walk around in a jacket and jeans, which is what I normally wear in average winters!

There’s Loc Tran (sam’s friend) and Sam renting our ski equipment for the day…

Hahahah they look so faggish. Snow gear is NOT flattering at all :P

Hahahaha he’s a prime example!!

One of his worst pics ever he looks like he’s going to mug and rape me if I walk down a dark alley with him.

I honestly really wanted to try out skiing, but for some stupid reason Sam practically forced me to do snowboarding instead and I totally regret my decision!! (or in this case, sam’s insensitivity and poor judgement)

First of all, snowboarding shoes are SUPER HEAVY AND SUPER THICK OMFG if you thought 6 inch heels was hard to walk in, snowboarding shoes are DEATH.

I would take a 6 inch killer stiletto and walk in it for a full DAY over walking in snowboarding shoes.

To my horror, we had to walk up 6 flights of stairs in our horrid snowboarding shoes to our apartment to get changed into the proper snow gear that we rented for the day… I think I almost died.

Before we’d even started ANY activity I was tired and miserable as fuck already.

This is what snowboarding looks like….
(from a first person view)

Shoes that weigh like 2kg (no fucking shit!!) and you’re strapped in so uncomfortably and strongly that it feels like the shoes are cutting into your skin.

Plus they’re about 20 cm think omfg. (ok a little exaggerating here but they ARE mad thick you can’t move your foot anymore. to walk, you have to lift your entire leg up in elaborate unnatural movements)

Sam successfully up on his board for the first time!!!

I reckon the hardest thing about this sport (for me) is learning how to STAND UP ON THE BOARD.

You’re meant to strap in your shoes securely fastened to your board, (tedious troublesome process that takes forever) and then you’re meant to be able to STAND UP, all while having your feet glued to a big ass board on a slippery snow surface with no support whatsoever wtf?!?!

And you keep falling down (as a beginner) and you have to get back up again… repeat process x 100.

I felt so retarded, like one of those soldier toys from Toy Story.

I used to laugh at how they walked, but man, I FEEL YOUR PAIN.

Imagine having your feet being stuck to a plank like THAT, and if you fell down on an icy cold slippery surface, how the fuck are you going to get up?! It’s all about arm strength to push yourself up in the worst possible position and I happen to have zero strength in everywhere especially my arms.

Everytime I’d manage to ALMOST stand up, my board would start to slip away and I’d be sliding all over the place.

So frustrating… I took so long to get the hang of it that Sam became really pissed off and started saying I’m physically useless and laughing at my misery instead of trying to HELP me.

HE WAS SO MEAN DURING THAT TRIP OMG YOU GUYS HAVE NO IDEA!!! I JUST HAVE TO SHARE because I’m still cut bout it till now.

Thank goodness I had Nicole, who is Loc Tran’s girlfriend to help me remain sane and she was soooooo nice to me.. especially when Sam wasn’t!!

This was NOT what I had in mind…

When I thought of a snow trip, I thought we’d do some snowmobiling and toboggan down the hills and make snowmen and ski for a few hours..

Instead of suffering trying to snowboard when I’m obviously nowhere near physically fit enough to take on such a demanding and challenging extreme sport.

HELLO, I can’t even swim properly or ride a bicycle, snowboard for fuck?!?!?

We finally took the ski lift up to the mountains… which was probably the most fun I had all day.

Everything was soooo white and pure… :)

And it’s funny seeing everyone bundled up in thick ugly clothes like that, lol. In the movies you see the ski resorts being all sunny and perfect weather ish… when the truth is, most days, it’s oversnowing and it’s amaaaaaazingly cold!

Such a hostile environment!!

I was half hoping to spot some snow wolves or even polar bears LOL?! I know that’s silly of me but it did seem like I was in the arctic for a moment. I could not see ANYTHING in sigh except miles of white snow.

Scary, yet beautiful at the same time…
Knowing you’re completely alone up here, and if you injure yourself and nobody finds you, you’d be left alone to freeze to death wtf?!

I continued my failed attempts to snowboard and got so bloody frustrated coz I was falling all over the place (when everyone else was like graceful. they all seemed like pros wtf) and cursing myself for not trying out skiing instead.

Skiing is apparently a lot more fun and easier for beginners too…

I was on the verge of tears – I wanted to have fun, not doing this!! This was all Sam’s idea :(

I think I DID cry actually… but through the tears and frustration, we somehow managed to find some comfort and happiness. We both sat down in the middle of the snowy mountain and lied on our backs, looking up into the sky…

Our romantic moment was ruined by snowflakes falling into our face and eyes every 2 seconds lol. Bad idea.

I imaged light snowflakes to be gently falling from the sky ala Christmas Day snow in movies – WRONG.

Coupled with super strong winds, the little snowflakes are like tiny icy shards that cut into my skin everytime they come into contact with my delicate face!

So we faced the other way opposite from the direction the snow was coming towards and cuddled up in a ball… twas sooo cold.

It gets EXTRA cold when you’ve the wind in your face and you start falling and thus getting SNOW IN YOUR PANTS and up your sleeves wtf.

My hair was completely fucked too!!!

By the end of the day I had a ball of ice in my pants (numb butt!), and enough ice in my hair to make a giant bowl of ice kachang – I was truly a walking talking popsicle.

Sidetrack a bit, I LOVE MY CANON D10!!

It’s freeze proof (it can tolerate super low subzero temperatures), water proof (can dunk it underwater and leave it for extended periods of time!) and also SHOCK PROOF – resistant to impact, you can throw it, knock it, let it fall… whatever. it’s sturdy as can be.

Best fucking resistent camera ever, I use it all the time, at the beach, in water theme parks, in snowy mountains… even in everyday situations.

I had it strapped to my wrist the whole time I was snowboarding – whenever I fell, I used my camera as support and it got knocked and buried in the snow so many times I was worried it would suffer and die.. but when we got back to the apartment, I did a check and it didn’t even have ONE extra scratch on it lol.

Supercam!!!

It’s such a pity they discontinued this amazing camera but I’m damn happy I got it before they cut off production for it!!!! LOVE ♥

Kk back to snow.

Eventually, I smartened up and gave up the thought of snowboarding (FINALLY).

I was like, “FUCK this, I’m gonna have some fun!!!” so I took off my snowboard from my feet, put it on the ground and started SLIDING DOWN THE MOUNTAIN ON THE BOARD!!

Omfg I went soooooo fast you shoulda seen me go haha.

I was like, “WeeeEEeEeeEEee!!”

Of course I know it’s kinda against the “rules” so I did this in an area with very little skiiers and snowboarders so I wouldn’t get in their way.

I did get a few stares though. Like, “Ha, you nub! Try doing the real thing one day!”

Kept doing that for the rest of the day – sliding down the mountain on my board… sounds boring but it was more fun than anyone else knew!!!!

Effortless, classic and you get the SAME adrenaline rush without having to exhaust yourself. *nods*

The days are short on snowy mountains, by 6pm all activities should be ended (unless you’re going for a special guided tour of night skiing) and we went for dinner!!

Didn’t take any pics coz I was exhausted by then (I swear I’ve never been more tired) but the food was amazing. Expensive, but sooooo yummy and comforting after a tiresome grueling day..

We went back to our apartment and made dessert (sticky date pudding! yum) and played Scrabble… that’s when I realized I wasn’t just not feeling well, I had a full on high fever!!!!

I felt really hot, yet really cold at the same time… It was awful :(

Would tell you the rest of the details of the night, some really fucked up stuff happened but I don’t wanna seem like I’m complaining TOO MUCH so I’ll keep quiet for now. I know I’ve been ranting quite a bit in this post.. but you don’t understand.. so nevermind.

I guess some things are best kept to yourself.

Woke up the next morning feeling MUCH better.

No ice in my hair, got a great night’s rest, fever subsided and best of all… no snowboarding for the day!!! Hah. Perfect.

Isn’t the view from our window gorgeous? We were positioned right next to the ski lift (convenient much!!) and it was pretty funny seeing people slip and fall while getting on and off the lift lol!

We cooked an awesome hearty breakfast, before heading out once more…

Sam and Loc Tran playing in the snow - snowball fight!!! Haha too cute :)

They’re 24 years old btw.

Something bout fluffy white snow truly does bring out the innocence in everyone! There’s no denying its magic.

Tried to snap a pic of Nicole and this man just walked right in front of me… Where’s yo manners boy?!?!

Second time our photo got ruined by some passing man!!!

I think everyone’s just TOO cold and too tired to be bothered with manners up there in the mountains lol. No one’s friendly or talks unless you’re indoors…

Finally, a proper picture of pretty Nicole!!

It was oversnowing that day, (yes, that’s what they really call it – OVERsnowing) so absolutely NO vehicles were allowed to move on the mountain at all, not even vehicles with snow chains… and it was really tough weather to walk in, so in order to get anywhere, THIS baby had to fetch everyone around to their destinations!

I still can’t believe I didn’t get to try snowmobiling!! Can’t wait for my next snow trip I’d definitely do it then!! It’d be a relaxing no-snowboarding and torturing yourself one :)

You see that fluff ball dangling at the bottom of my beanie?

It was so cold that that fluff ball collected heaps of ice and turned into a GIANT snow ball haha!!! I was like, “dude, why does it feel like there’s so much weight on my neck?”

Then I looked down and saw this massive thing hanging off my head. o_O

Super cute mini snowman!!! :)

Oh my, all this talk about snow and snowmen makes me so excited for Christmas…

“Frosty the snowman was jolly happy soul!” – One of my fav songs since I was a kidddd

I think it’s safe to say everyone looked like shit in the snow. My eyes are so small they might as well be closed hahahahahahaha

Snowball fight!!!

It doesn’t hurt as much as I thought it would, since you’re wearing like 3 layers of clothing underneath.. Super fun though, it’s the only time you can throw shit at strangers and they have no reason to be mad at you coz everyone’s doing it!

Sam sculpted this weird face thing on a table LOL

This boy got so freaked out by it, he was like, “OMG MUM!!!! LOOK!! A FACE.. in the snow……….” but his mum CBF.

We ran off to a more secluded area, with minimum tourists and buildings… which means like 7 inches worth of thick snow to play around in!!!

I love it!!!

It was though I was in a white haven of sorts :)

Sam making a snow angel!!! ^.^

THIS IS WHAT I CAME TO THE SNOW TO DO!! Just bounce around in marshmallowy ground…

You can just let yourself FALL to the ground and it won’t hurt one bit because snow is like shaved ice and it cushions the impact so much you feel like you’re lying on nothing!

The pictures I’m about to post next is probably gonna be social suicide but… DUDE WHATEVER!!!!!

Everyone looks like shit in the snow (although not quite as bad as me) but behold, Underage Girl comes sliding down a hill in all her glory!!

OMFG have you ever seen such a pathetic and hilarious fat lump of joy sliding down a marshmallow bed before?!?!?

Fucking funny if I do say so myself!!!!

I know it’s infinitely unflattering… but whatever lah ok lol I get to be ugly sometimes too!

You can see how heavy the snow storm was…. But I loved it all the same :)

It was only July then, but I found myself singing songs like “Jingle Bell Rock” and “We wish you a Merry Christmas!!”

Everytime I see snow imaginary jingling bells ring in my head and I imagine Santa Claus flying across the sky in his sleigh going, “Ho ho ho!”

LOL it’s true.

It’s time to make a snow man!!!

We wanted a GIANT one… Something that’s just as big or even bigger than us :P

Didn’t realize how HARD it was to make a snowman…

You’d think it’d just be piling snow, how hard could it be?

But to MAKE the snowman a round shape and to keep the snow from crumbling into little pieces instead of remaining as a whole solid is quite difficult!

We took like 2 hours ish to make this snowman:

THAT IS UTTERLY MASSIVE!!!!!!!!!!

Hard work, but it paid off coz it’s so big and cute hehe. I’ve always wanted to build a snowman with my own hands.. just one of life’s strange little pleasures.

Remember what I said about me having enough ice in my hair to make a giant bowl of ice kachang for you?? LOL.

Sleeping in the snow like an angel….

Not really.

More like I was being swallowed alive by the snow LOL!!!! I couldn’t feel my arms or legs at all :D

End of snow trip at Fall’s Creek!!!

Although I fell sick and was terribly exhausted and conditions were much worse than I thought and I’d gone through things I wish I hadn’t…

It was still an amazing experience overall :)

It was so new and so exciting, even if it was tough!!!!!!!!!!! Got some really epic pictures out of it too, hehe.

Snowboarding was a real challenge for me, and although I failed with a capital F, I can at least say I’ve tried!!

I’d definitely go back to the snow again. This time I’d be a lot more prepared. And I’m gonna do some snowmobiling for fuck’s sake.

xoxo,
Jess

Caversham Wildlife Park

Back to my Perth travelogue!!!

We had breakfast at the Botanical Cafe at Kings Park (yes, again) because it’s such a beautiful place to be in!

Great views of the city, good food, calm scenic gardens.. (Y)

I’m always strangely chirpy in the morning when I’m on holiday!!

I will drag my ass out of bed at like 7am just to get ready (going to sleep at like 2am the night before)

Another reason why I ♥ hanging out with Gwen - she’s always so enthusiastic about taking pictures!

She’s like “aww that’s such a cute pose… I wanna take more!! closer! smileeeee!”

Didn’t wanna bother anyone in the morning having their breakfast to take a picture for us so we took one ourselves!

I swear me and Sam always do the same weird poses coincidentally wtf. I so did not ask him to stick out his tongue.

Hahaha we are adorable.

Oops did I just say we?… I meant them. o_O

Ordering fooooooooood! I ♥ my royal blue coat, it screams for attention!

I miss winter fashion!!!

I used to like ginger ale / beer… until it got all too gingery for me. If you buy the real bottled stuff like this, there’s real pieces of ginger floating around wtf!! Very different from your canned version

Gwen saw this picture and she’s like “That’s such a Jess smile” and I was like, “what??” and when I got home and edited all the pictures I realized… Holy shit I really do smile the same all the time!!!

Well how many smiles can a person have?! It’s not as if I’m on a roller coaster and having different spastic expressions :P

I’m just posing for touristy photos.. LOL

Gwen was wearing a really cute beret (I had a slight obsession with berets then) and I wanted to see how it looked on me…

Ta-dah!!! Whaddya think?

I think it’s pretty cute but it suits Gwen waaaaay more! I’m not really a hat person.. hard to find one that doesn’t make my head look gigantic (it is)

Gwenny with my black headband on!!!!

I told her she should totally wear headbands more often because they look adorable on her but she disagrees..

Tell her she’s wrong!! She looks so innocent and doe eyed with it :P

Om nom nomz. This was Gwen’s meal. Huge Aussie portion of a chicken sandwich thing!

And this is an extremely flattering picture of me being the glutton that I am.

Thanks for the capture, Gwen!

I was actually having this dessert that came in a rather small portion so I almost gobbled the whole thing up by myself without offering Sam any, hence his “Ugh, what a pig” expression LOL

Seeing Sam’s :[ expression, I decided to give him the rest of it….

So I’m like -_- and he’s now :]]]]]]]]] lol

I was reapplying lipgloss after the meal and this goon said he wanted some lipgloss too.

Or did he say he wanted to kiss me?? Anyway one thing led to another and somehow I ended up applying lipgloss directly on his lips!

I made his skin extra smooth and fair so he looks super girlish LOL

HAHAHAHAHAAH

*blows kisses* ;)

Hell yeah beeeeeyotch!!

Can’t touch this!

FML my boyfriend’s lips are more pouty and luscious than mine!!!

Us in Kings Park!!

I look really stiff here because my coat has this thick satin inner ling which meant it couldn’t stretch or move like at ALL

HAHAHA we are SUCH asian tourists!!!

Anyway this is a really bad photo… Looks like it was taken by some shitty digital camera. I blame the photographer :x

Not used to seeing low quality pix on my blog ever since I got my DSLR

Mmm maybe I shouldn’t have blurred the background

For some reason this photo makes me think of Gossip Girl!

I think it’s all that red and blues and headgears lol

Such a vibrant happy photo :)!!!! Love

It’s a little awkward going out with only your bf and a female friend, it’s like, whose hand should you hold?! (HAHAH yes sometimes I do hold my friends hands. WHAT??)

If both talk to you, which should you entertain? I usually entertain my other friend coz Sam’s always going to be around, but I see Gwen like once a year!

Admiring the views of Perth City.. never understood why people say it’s exceptionally boring there. I actually think Western Australia is really beautiful.

I live in a big city like Singapore and it’s even more boring… Nothing to look at besides big grey buildings and people. Melbourne city was boring too. Hell I went to Las Vegas and I even got bored sometimes there!!!! Every city is boring if you don’t do the right things with the right people.

I find nature a lot more interesting and WA is definitely scenic as hell ♥

WTF when did I become such a hippie?!? Lol!

:’)

…The skyline actually looks very similar to Singapore’s, except their skies are bluer (IT IS TRUE) and there’s a great big river across the whole state.. which makes it pretty.

Having a nice waterfront makes the most boring old architecture look good!

Sam tryna be gangsta :P

Lots of pictures of peoples backs this post… LOL

Gwen camwhoring in the back seat of our car!

I was in a dilemma at that point because I didn’t know whether I should hang out with my mum or Gwen and Sam.. My mum wanted to go out with me but I was already out with G and S so I finally convinced my mum to come along!!! (she flew to Perth a few days after I did)

Made a little detour to Burswood and picked her up from Uncle John’s place and we were all in the car together… yay!

She wanted to go shopping but I wanted to see wildlife.

We compromised and did a little bit of both!

Kangaroos, buffalos (???), BOBTAILS (?!?) and protected snakes crossing!!! Probably your grandmother crossing too!

They’d might as well just say “do drive at 20 km/h. lots of things you could knock down here. heavy fines”

.
.
.
.
.
.

To my absolute horror, when we finally reached the wildlife park, my mum said she was wearing high heels so she couldn’t join us for the trail.

WTF!!!!

And to my amazement Gwen actually said she would stay behind with my mother waiting for us in the car. I was in utter disbelief… It was sweet of her, but but but..

They cheated me!! Well Gwen’s already been to Caversham Wildlife Park, so I can understand if she didn’t wanna go again but mummmyyyy you bluffed me :(

Sam said we were already here so we should just go ahead and have fun, make it a quick one then go back to them ASAP so we did.

I was gonna type “this is a picture of some bird” when I realized I actually knew what this bird was!!!!

I typed “cuckoobaroo” into google images and nothing came up. Shit.

I tried “kukubaroo” HAHAHAH and again nothing…

……………I finally found out they’re called “kookaburra” instead. WTF.

No idea where I got kukubaroo from… Hey, at least I know the birds species! Well sort of. Am impressed by my general knowledge haha… not by my spelling

Kukubaroo looking at yoo!!!!!

I’ve actually been to this wildlife park before… Only realized that when I got there -_-

I was here like 2 years + ago……. with……

… my ex boyfriend…. -_______- x 999

Mr. Wallaby!!!! Hehe definitely got this one right

Creepy ass bats..
same as the ones we saw in Orlando last year!!!

They are so motherfucking evil looking wtf. But apparently very harmless and timid.

I actually made a point to read the sign displaying the animal’s name… but I forgot what it’s called. Anyone knows?

Tried to capture pictures of many colorful birds but all I constantly got was this instead wtf.

Believe it or not, at that point I didn’t even know how to MANUALLY FOCUS my DSLR yet!!!!!

Who buys a 1.6k camera and then decides not to learn how to use it properly? Me.

I now know how to manually focus my camera but still no idea how to change my lenses hahahaha I have 3 spare lenses at home dying to be tested wtf. I really can’t wait to try out the macro lens on flowers.

I’ll go learn soon I promise!! Feel so guilty

Koala!!!

Just FYI they’re just called “koalas”, they have no relations with any bear of sorts.. So don’t call em koala bears!

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!

They look soooooo EBILLLLLZzzzZzz *runs around screaming*

Like they wanna fucking rip my heart out with that sharp beak of theirs… Where’s their goddamn eyes??!?!?!

How come they only have slits? And they’re so quiet and creepy, never calling out or even moving… They just stare at you silently (I assume those are their eyes?)

If aliens had a face it would look something like this I’m sure!!!

More evil flippin’ owls... whatever happened to cute, snowy, mythical looking ones like Hedwig in Harry Potter?!

Wtf are these?

If you’ve seen THE FOURTH KIND (thriller movie about alien abduction and owls) you’ll know why I’m so creeped out by them now.

It’s actually quite a good movie.. Very mind-fucking and scary. If you want a good thriller show I highly recommend watching The Fourth Kind! The ending was stupid but overall pretty good.

Still feeling freaked out by the evil owls, I went over to the cage next door to it hoping I’d find something a bit cuter…

This owl kept making weird spastic noises and had its face constantly turned around. I thought to myself, “Damn it why won’t you look at me? I’m trying to take a picture here!!!”

And just when I got REALLY close to the owl (I put my face up to the cage to inspect it closely)

IT TURNED AROUND SUPER QUICKLY, MADE A LOUD SHARP CALLING NOISE AND DID THIS:

BOO!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s eyes almost popped outta its sockets!!!! WTF.

It’s almost as if it read my mind and turned back to look at me going, “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU LOOKING AT?”

Damn that’s one pissed off looking owl!!!

Too bad the owl itself is not in focus otherwise you could see its full freaky glory. I felt so victimized for some reason. What did I do wrong to get terrorized by owls like this???

Frightened me half to death…. Damn these owls. I officially hate them now. Except for hedwig.

Onto something MUCH cuter and friendly…

Kangarooooooooooooooosssiiiess!!!
^______^

They are just as docile and gentle as I remember them to be!

They don’t fight with each other, they are never aggressive even when it comes to sharing food!

(there’s no need to fight for food coz tourists overfeed them wtf in fact they’re super lazy) and their saliva doesn’t stink!

I know this because I put my hand up to my face to smell it after feeding them HAHAH /sicko

It looks like a llama in this pic!!

Sam with a kangaroo that’s got an itchy backside hehehe

Wow finally!!!

ONE good photo with perfect lighting, sharpness, composition and angle that a tourist took for us.

Big tip for travelers…

ALWAYS approach the people carrying bulky ass DSLRS themselves, or people who look like they’re really interested in photography (the idiots who stand in one spot forever trying to take THAT perfect shot) because your photos will turn out so much better and they are a lot more willing to help out!

Don’t approach families or old people because those are the worst.

Super shaky hands and they really couldn’t care less. Approaching other young couples instead of random dubious men is also a good idea because they cannot run away with your camera as fast :P

Awww!

Doesn’t it make your heart melt to see your big burly boyfriend become all gentle and caring around more fragile things?

Lookie, an Albino kangaroo!!!

Albino means the animal has no color pigments in its skin and is all-white instead of being their usual colour and usually has reddish eyes.

We have albino humans too.. you should google image them, very interesting!!

Albinos are considered to be a genetic problem and are very rare so I was very surprised to see one in the park… but I realized they have MUCH MORE than one. They must have over 10+ albinos!!

Do they specifically mate the albinos together so they can have “special” kangaroos or what? So weird.

For some reason this albino kangaroo looks so sad and unhealthy / frail compared to the rest.. I suppose they suffer a lot of health issues :(

Sharing some love with it!!!

I soooooo miss my long hair. So…. Shiny.. *__*

*misses brushing through it and waiting for it to dry at night*

Piccah with a normal kangaroo!!!

And I have the same “Jess smile” again. I KNOW WHY I SMILE LIKE THIS NOW!!!!

It’s so my face looks normal and proportionate.

I realized that whenever I smile really widely, my nose becomes HUGE and flat and my face looks extra chubby and a whole lot of other problems la.

So I do a :] instead of a :DDDDDD usually lol!

….I was super shocked when I saw this!!!

OH NO, YOU DIDN’T!!!!!!!! Not in front of all the kids D:

Can someone tell me what the hell they are doing???? They can’t be…..

Surely not…..

Say it isn’t so T__________T

Lazy kangaroos.. They have like 50 of them!!!

And look, even more albinos!

Good life lah…. Just act chio lie on the grass and wait for people to hand feed you food wtf

kangarooz sayz bye byez!!

Am I crazy?? Or does this black swan look evil too, with its devilish red eyes and beak?

I think anything with red eyes or extra dark coating scares me…

Who else likes sitting in parks throwing bread at little ducks swimming in ponds?? :)

We saw this really interesting flower but couldn’t get the camera to focus it properly!!

I kept complaining to Sam that I needed to learn how to manual focus it NOWWWWW right there and then in the park coz it was driving me nuts..

And so he figured it out for me!!!

Turns out it’s super simple.

You just flip a button and turn the lenses left and right -___-

First ever shot of us using manual focus…. Focus is kinda wonky here lol but it’s a start

10 seconds later, we took another shot!

There, much better!!!!!!

And lastly, the ultra in focus stand out one :P

I was so happy because for some reason I thought manual focusing was very hard, like you had to press a lot of buttons and adjust for a long time and stuff….?

I guess that’s setting the exposure and stuff but focusing itself is relatively easy.

You just have to look very carefully and have a sharp eye for detail, because if you’re using the digital screen to view everything instead of the viewfinder, everything looks sharp until you enlarge it on your computer screen and some parts are blurry as hell!

Before shot:

After shot:

Success!!! Isn’t it pretty?

I ♥ flowers and taking pictures of them. I’m dying to use my still-in-packaging macro lens and fly myself to Australia to take pics of their wildflowers…..

I WOULD go to Botanical Gardens but it’s so effing hot here in SG, totally no mood to take pictures outside!

The first thing I do when I’m under the sun in is to run under some shade and seek refuge in an air-conditioned place. Otherwise I’d seriously die of a heat stroke.

So pretty…
but poisonous!!!

Kind of like some girls I know hahaha.. except they’re not that pretty.

Sam’s like, “here, I’ll take a super in focus shot of you now!!” but I look really ghastly here for some reason o_X

Muahahaha…
went back to take a properly focused picture of a bird just for some self satisfaction.

OMG LOOK!!!!!!!!

An albino peacock!!!!!!!!!!
Wtf so pretty.

I really wanted to see it spread its feathers and it’d be like a sea of white… too bad it didn’t but I got a pic of it anyway.

How come Caversham Wildlife Park has so many albino creatures??? They’re super rare in the wild!

I’m seriously thinking they’re specifically breeding albinos here to increase publicity or something because no way they’ve captured these from the wild right wtf.

If it’s true, that’s really mean because despite how unique they look, it’s unnatural and they’re more prone to numerous diseases / illnesses as compared to their normal counterparts… :(

Random pic of a peacock perched on top of a shed

End of Caversham pics!!!!!

As you can tell I was in a really good mood hehehe. Had such a good time… :)

We walked back to our car to find Gwen and my mum laughing their heads off and looking like they just had a great time being stuck in the car together for the past 1 hour WTF. I was really shocked.

I knew my mum would like Gwen but I never thought they’d get along so well… it’s definitely a good thing though!!!

I get along with her parents too, they’re lovely! Also love the fact that they’ve been living in Australia for so long yet they’re still such a Singaporean at heart.

Could recognize the singlish accent anywhere.

Wtf seriously horrified at how early things close in Aus. That’s one thing I can’t stand..

I love how everything opens late in SG. Can find a 24 hour food stall ANYWHERE. 24 island wide McDelivery. 24 hour movies (well sort of. until 4am).. 24 hour cheap non-dangerous taxis. And more!!

Back to my post bout Perth.

Went back to UJ’s apartment to chill for a bit, then they brought us out for a nice Japanese dinner in some suburb.. I think Japanese may just be my new favourite cuisine!

Yummmm

We caught “Circus Joseph Ashton” at night because I wanted to do something different…

I suggested a circus show and we googled it on the iphone (thank god for iphone) and saw an ongoing show located on google maps (thank god for google) so we immediately drove towards that suburb!!

Took forever to get the location.. Got lost a few times, but we made it just in time. The show is actually pretty good family entertainment for the 15 bucks.

Ridiculous looking pony with purple frills :P

Don’t expect this to be like Cirque Du Soleil though, Circus Joseph Ashton is a very small-scale production run by a family. It’s interesting because you get to see different family members perform their different talents!!!

There was this adorable boy who was only FOUR years old but already started performing!! Mad. Imagine that…

You and your whole family performing your own circus show together. How mad would that be?

Woo.. if only I was that flexible and athletic

This guy is multi talented!!!

Very agile and precise. He did a comedy section earlier on, which was great, then he started walking on a tightrope, then he started UNICYCLING on a tightrope, then……

Started juggling three bowling bins. While balancing on a unicycle.

Still on a freakin’ tight rope.

Sick!!!!!!!!!!

Am I wrong to wonder how these flexible gymnasts / contortionists / whatever are behind closed doors? LOL you must wonder what sort of moves they get up to!

Last picture of the post!!

The “doll” that he’s sitting on is actually a real woman. A very freakin flexible woman!! Enjoyed the show quite a lot (though boring at times.. go with family!)

Anyway random fact: Less than 2 weeks to my LAST exam ever in MDIS, my Economics paper. Wish me the determination to study hard and pass with flying colours wtf like that’s gonna happen. I hate math possibly more than I hate butterflies and moths and ex boyfriends.

At least pass plz!!!

17 things I did when I was 17

Here’s to goodbye 17, and hello 18!

.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

1) Started my relationship with Samuel Aaron McArthur
!!!

Definitely the most significant part about me being 17!

This relationship has changed my life completely… I was such a bitter, bitter girl early last year because of my fail relationship with a fail ex-bf. Just a young girl who loved to love and wanted to be loved as well, but all I received was lies and insincerity in return.

Needless to say, when you break a 17 year old girl’s heart, she remembers it forever. I thought I would have to carry this burden around with me throughout my teenage years…

I thought I’d never be able to trust any other guy wholeheartedly again. They say the first cut is the deepest… damn right!!!

If not for Sam, I honestly don’t know how long it would’ve taken for me to heal from my previous ordeal. Life at that time was all about crying myself to sleep every night and day, wondering why the hell did I even get myself into this mess at such a young age and cursing the people who made me so miserable.. Even though I was shattered into a million pieces, Sam slowly and painstakingly put the pieces back together, one by one…

Slowly, that wide gaping hole inside my heart was being filled again.

At first I was so scared that I’d get hurt and used again, but Sam proved himself to be one of the most sincere and hardworking person you’d ever meet. When I broke up with my ex, my mum and friends always comforted me by saying that I’d find somebody better but I never really believed them. I WAS determined to find somebody better, but deep down inside, I was highly skeptical too.

It’s not just about finding somebody better looking, richer, smarter, sweeter, or “better”... You gotta have special feelings about that special someone too, y’know? You gotta have chemistry that sparks like fireworks, and it’s so hard to find somebody like that.

But I found such a person online. I’m not a spiritual / superstitious / horoscope kinda person.. but it’s kinda hard to not believe in fate when things like that happen to yourself.

WHAT ARE THE FUCKING ODDS?

If you ever met Sam, you’d know how different he is from all the other guys out there. He cooks and brings breakfast to me in bed, he puts me before everything else – family, work, friends, money, everything…

He runs from one end of the cab to the other just so he can open the door for me to get out, he always buys me flowers and doesn’t think they’re a waste of money, he thinks money is only but superficial value to buy superficial things, he thinks I’m beautiful just the way I am and has never ONCE asked me to change myself for him, he pretty much wants to spend every waking moment with me, he gives me the better part of the meal when we eat, he buys me presents even when there’s no special occasion just cuz I’m “special” to him, he doesn’t watch porn, he’s not into sports or fast cars or other hot chicks, he holds biomedical degree from a respected university, he works damn hard and earns good money for himself, he kisses me good morning and good night every single day when I wake up and go to sleep, he never complains about doing things I like to do (shopping, watching chick flicks, waiting around for me to do my manicures, etc)..

I COULD GO ON FOREVER!

Of course he’s not exactly perfect either, he has his #failmoments too LOL but that’s not today’s focus point. Let’s just gush about his awesome side.

Once upon a time, we were nothing more than online friends playing a zombie blasting game called Left 4 Dead together..

Then for god knows what reason, we suddenly decided we really liked each other and before we could figure out what the hell was going on, he was on a plane on his way to Singapore..

Give us a few weeks together, and we turned into INSEPARABLE soul mates.

We haven’t looked back since ♥

We’ve had the most amazing memories that I would never have dreamt of having.

And even if, somewhere somehow someday, all of this abruptly comes to an end… everything would’ve still been more than worth it because I’ve had the experience of a lifetime.

2) Discovered just how much I really love killer whales and started obsessing over them!!!

It’s hard to explain to people why I love orcas so much.

Not because I can’t phrase my feelings into words properly, it’s cuz people just don’t get it. They’re not passionate about them the way I am. When I die, if I don’t get to come back as a human I DEFINITELY want to come back as a killer whale. There is no other better animal to be.. Apex predator FTW!

I can see confusion in their eyes when I see a picture of a killer whale somewhere and I start squealing and pointing at it with shiny eyes like a little girl. I was never an animal person so this love for orcas kinda popped out of nowhere. My new found fascination with the ocean has a big part to play!! Everything down there is so wondrous and mysterious.

This obsession first started when I found out I was going to Disney World in Florida. I freaked out big time and doing my research on all the other theme parks I wanted to visit, and I listed Sea World as one of my “must-do” things in Orlando. Then I remembered all the previous times I’d been to Sea World with my dad, and I started googling and reading up on orcas online and immediately fell in love with them all over again!!!!

If you’ve ever been to Sea World, you’ll know how it feels watching their killer whale shows.

You CANNOT not fall in love with the orcas….

They hunt for meals in packs together, like wolves – and even if the meal is small or if the other orca is completely capable if hunting another prey by itself, they still share everything, all the time! They stick by their families their ENTIRE LIVES, never once leaving their side… They only have 1 mate for their whole lives too. Orca pods (orca families) are matriarchal, which means they are female dominant… The ladies lead and make the decisions. Hu-rrah!!

What else????

They’re a mindblowing combination of being intelligent, deadly, adorable, faithful, playful, hostile, magnificent, graceful, mysterious and emotional at the same time! If you love animals, if you love the sea, if you like learning new things or if you’re simply curious – I strongly urge everybody to watch a few short killer whale documentaries on Youtube!!!

You’ll be fascinated to no end.

Oh and we can’t forget THIS very special moment too!!!

Definitely in my top 5 favourite moments of my entire LIFE.

Squeeeeeeeee!!!!!! I wanna hug them so bad.

My ultimate dream is to befriend a wild killer whale and / or to swim with them.. Pray for me that some day soon, my dream will come true :)

For those of you who don’t already know her, say hello to hunnybuns!!!!!

Actually it’s not really my first pet since my primary school friend gave me a few hamsters once before. But I stored them in a shoe box and fed them leftover jelly from my lunch (which they puked out and I was so confused because, who doesn’t like jelly?) because I didn’t have the resources or money for anything else (I was 8 years old) and I accidentally almost stepped on one of them so I freaked out and gave them back to my friend. Poor hammies T_T

I bought this little fella here on impulse (obviously lol) and I don’t blog about her very much because she’s not very friendly and doesn’t like to be touched, so I tend to leave her alone most of the time. I can’t even hold her without her running away and squeaking like mad, let alone take pictures of her.

Hunnybuns isn’t like your usual hammie… She’s not friendly, and she’s not greedy either. But neither is she fierce. She doesn’t EVER bite, even when she’s terrified or pissed, but she doesn’t ever wanna go near any human hand even if you have super yummy hamster food to tempt her with. She’s just like this scared little thing all the time even though I don’t even try to touch her anymore after finding out she hates that and she’ll snatch food from my hand and run away with it.

I can’t figure this bitch out…. I wonder why after so damn long she still hasn’t warmed up to me. I guess that’s just her personality – unfriendly and hostile!!

I sit by her cage for hours, I let her get used to my scent, I’m gentle and not rough with her, I try to coax her with lots of treats… yada yada…

It’s very annoying when other people who have hamsters think they’re hamster experts and start giving me lame advice like, “You have to hold her more / give her treats / *insert other lame advice here*”

I’ve done everything I could already. People tend to forget that pets have different personalities, and some pets just AREN’T lovable… Hamsters are quite stupid so they’re not like cats and dogs, which are a lot easier to build relationships and bonds with because they understand the concept of having a “master” and they know loyalty / love / affection / attention.

When I held her for the first time at the pet store (to make sure she was friendly) she gave me the CUTEST hamster smile ever… That little scrunched up face was worth a million dollars so I bought her immediately but she did a 360 personality change when we got home wtf! What a con man.

Nonetheless, she still has a special place in my heart (being my first pet) and even though she hates me, I still take good care of her and feed her tons of yummy food all the time.. Every time I cook, she gets a little bit, and she gets cheese, fresh veggies, muffins, and nuts often!

Digressing a bit… I’m really looking forward to getting a puppy!!!

This time I won’t get it on impulse I swear!! I know that dogs are very different from hamsters, but that’s precisely why I believe it will work out. Sam promised me a puppy if I go to live with him in Melbourne… *fingers crossed*

He also promised that he’ll be the one to clean the puppy shit all the time haha! And I promised to be the main chef of the house, faithfully waiting for him at home with yummy meals, expecting his arrival from work.

Sounds good to me.

4) Learned how to bake and cook, they’re my new favourite hobbies now!!!

I don’t take pics of it, but I’m cooking a lotttt nowadays!

This is actually pretty surprising because I’ve never imagined myself to be a “homely” sort of person, but I guess it’s time to face up to reality… I’m a “homely” person through and through! I love staying in on friday nights and cuddling up to hot chocolate and DVDs, I enjoy baking and cooking (often) for the people around me, and… what else is homely ah?

I’m excited to have my own house next time because I wanna decorate and paint it myself and plant my own flowers in my garden and all those other fun stuff!!!!!

A few months ago, I didn’t even know how to use a microwave (yes I was that stupid lol) but now I can whip up awesome food in an instant! It’s really fucking amazing because I never thought I could ever COOK without burning it or having it taste horrible.. let alone be a good cook! And it’s not just self-praise because I have real testimonials from unbiased people ok. I love cooking with my own imagination, so I usually use basic recipes as a guideline and from them I alter it to whatever I think may taste better… Usually turns out nicer!

There’s something very comforting about the smell of freshly baked muffins in the house
.. and something calming about chopping up mushrooms and watching them sautee in butter… Ok now I just sound crazy lol.

But yeah, I love cooking because it’s fun and I love good food so it’s great if I can cook it myself and I love baking because it allows my creativity to run wild!!!

Baking the cake is one thing, but decorating it is really the fun part… I wanna bake another rainbow cake soon! I don’t bake as often as I cook, because my family aren’t very big on desserts (I wish they were so I could bake goodies more often) and I’m dying for a friend’s birthday to come soon so I can bake something nice for them. If somebody needs customized cakes / cupcakes for a special occasion, let me know!!!

I’ll do it for free simply because I love doing it. You’ll have to pay for the ingredients, that’s all ^___^

5) Signed a contract with Nuffnang and became their so-called “talent”!!!

(for the clueless people, nuffnang is a blog advertising community)

What this means is that Nuffnang now represents my blog (like my agent) and I felt so adult-ish when I was reading through the official contract!!!! Me, singing a business contract at the age of 17 (at that time) because of my BLOG?!

For a long time I’ve only thought about my blog as a ranting platform, not as a mean to make an impact on other people or to earn some side money from…

Signing that contract was the turning point when I realized how seriously some people take blogging and how much I take it for granted sometimes! If I put in more effort, this could be something so much more if I wanted it to be..

When I first started out blogging, it wasn’t even to share my opinions because I didn’t even think anybody would read my blog, LOL it was more of like an online diary because writing is old fashioned and tiring and I liked the idea of being to combine digital photos and my thoughts into one space, so I started blogging.

So thanks to Nuffnang, I’ve had the opportunity to write for quite a few big labels,

anything from Dell (laptops) to Nokia (mobile phones) to Disney Pictures (promoting their movies) and Laurier (sanitary pad) and moreeeee!!

I know that I’m just a small fry in the blogging industry, but considering my age and as a personal achievement (without ever trying to market myself as a professional or full-time blogger), I’d like to think of myself as quite successful.

Sure I don’t have as many hits or followers as I’d like to have, but being a top blogger has never been my motive or dream (being a famous singer like lady gaga is wtf)

So yes!! I guess this whole thing kinda comes as a surprise, but a pleasant one at that. Blogging has opened up a lot of doors in my life for me. Sometimes I just wish I’d be more hardworking and seize the opportunities! But I spend too much time procrastinating, cooking and playing Left 4 Dead wtf.

6) Bought myself a DSLR and took up photography!!!

Some of my favourite flower shots… You like? ^.^

Haven’t took that many (all of these were taken during my trip to Australia, but during their WINTER so most flowers were dead.. otherwise woulda taken more)

I’ve always wanted a DSLR, but was put off the idea for some time because I was daunted by the hefty price tag and how complicated the whole concept is… I was afraid that I wouldn’t be able to cope.

After looking at low-quality photos on my blog for far too long, I decided enough was enough and I finally bought myself a Canon Eos 550d!!!!!

BEST BUY EVER,
along with my iphone.. Except that was given to me by my mum lol.

This must be one of the best and most gratifying hobbies out there!

Photography brings me so much joy, I love capturing memories and looking at well-taken photographs makes me all warm inside!!! Memories are forever, why would you wanna ruin them with some crappy camera? Sorry if I sound too conceited and high and mighty but after using a DSLR I am NEVER going back to PnS (compact cameras)

DSLRS allow for so much more potential and creativity.. it makes a world of difference!! For about twice the price more, you get instant infinite satisfaction. I am in no way claiming to be a pro photographer, in fact I have so much more to learn and more lenses to buy but that’s not the point.

The whole point of photography is being able to find beauty in things that other people find insignificant or boring, being able to bring out that beauty successfully in an otherwise plain situation is such an achievement!

It’s allowing the world to see things through your own eyes…. The littlest things matter, and usually the most simplistic subjects make the best photographic subjects.

Anyone can be a good photographer, if only they would try to look at the world with their heart and a new imaginative perspective instead of just their eyes :)

7) Changed my hairstyles a few times

Top left pic is my hair’s natural black colour. Top right pic is some copper light brown I dyed. Had to bleach my hair for this colour.. poor locks!!!

Bottom left pic’s hair colour was achieved by using Liese Bubble Hair Dye over my colour in top right’s pic, and bottom right’s pic is the hair I have now.

Unfortunately, I’m not very daring when it comes to experimenting with hairstyles, so the changes aren’t very significant! I guess cutting it short and dyeing it a really light brown is about as drastic as I’d get.

I can only imagine how awful loud hair colours would look on me…. Frankly I’m terribly bored of my own hair.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to jazz up my hairstyle?!?

I can’t stand having the same hairstyle for too long.. Already quite bored of my hair now. I would go for a pixie crop of some sort, but then I’d look like a boy!!! I always thought only skinny people could pull off that hair. And super long hair is also quite boring + super high maintenance, needs a lot of time spent on it to look good.

I’m thinking of perming my hair.. yes or no? Hmmm

8) Fell out with my dad… and slowly patching things up with him again

Ok so people who have been following my blog for awhile would know about this heartfelt entry I posted entitled “Never Good Enough” a few months back, and that’s one of the few times I’ve ever talked about my dad.

I don’t talk about him much simply because he isn’t ever around, and I got really pissed off with him at one point so I wrote the entry to voice out my feelings that I’ve been dying to let go for so long. I almost never talk about family issues with people because it’s just so heartbreaking, I prefer focusing on lighthearted stuff but sometimes things are too major to ignore.

After that incident, I didn’t talk to my dad for a good few months… and I thought I’d never talk to him again, until he started casually SMS-ing me again. “How are you? How’s your studies coming along?” just things like that.

For a moment I thought perhaps he’d come to his senses and realized that not everyone lives by the rules he set for himself, but meeting him recently once again assured me that we are way too different to ever truly get along.

We may be father and daughter but our personalities show that we never spent enough time together to even be remotely alike.

I’m glad though, that I am who I am. I love my way of living life, and I’m not going to give up what I have right now.

Freedom and happiness…
it’s what some people fight for their whole lives and still don’t get. But I have it now.

So I’m sure as hell not giving it up.

I’m not sure if we’ll ever have a normal relationship or be able to see eye-to-eye. But this falling out with my dad has forced me to realize that parents won’t always be there to support your every move. Sometimes they’ll be the ones who are dragging you down. It pisses me off to see parents expecting their children to live lives that THEY never fulfilled themselves when they were younger.

You may be the parent of your child, but they’re not a “Mini-You” so don’t expect them to want the same things you do and force your values upon them. If parents truly cared about their kids, they would acknowledge that kids need encouragement way more than the endless reprimanding. This taught me to be even more independent and make decisions on my own.

Ever since I can remember, I’ve been making all the decisions by myself.

Which school to go to, which course to take, which boyfriend to date, what I’m going to wear, what I’m going to do when I grow up, how I’m going to live my life.. etc

Every decision has shaped me into the person I’ve become today, so I don’t regret any of them at all. People say everything happens for a reason..

In my case, things happened because I chose for them to. The things that I have control over, at least.

9) Swam at Marina Bay Sands’ infinity pool in the middle of Singapore city!!!

Ok so I can’t get over how cool this pool is.

You’re probably bored of hearing it by now, BUT I ♥ MBS and the pool is just sooo amazing how it’s so high up (57 floors) and it feels like you’re swimming in a skyscraper… Wait, I WAS!!

This is the tallest longest infinity pool in the WORLD, and I’m pretty damn sure the only one if its kind!

I’m used to lush greenery surrounding swimming pools, but it’s such a refreshing change to be in the heart of the city for once. At night the view is just spectacular.

I am utterly convinced that this is the BEST pool in the world…. Where else can you swim while hearing the roars of Formula One cars zooming past and having the twinkling city skyline as your backdrop?

Love it so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I can’t believe it’s so readily accessible too.. Honestly I’d travel overseas just to take a swim in this pool if it were located in another country. But all I have to do is poke my mum for a free stay and take a 30 mins cab ride to the city. Win!! You have to be there yourself to experience the thrills :)

I’ve shown this to my friends overseas and they’re like “OMG WTF?? COOL POOL? You have this in Singapore?! Omfg mad!!!!! What the hell? Is it on top of a skyscraper? That looks so cool and scary at the same time ahHhhHHh *hyperventilates*”

To which I would reply, “Yeah, it’s pretty awesome.”

And feeling very cool about myself afterwards HAHAHA

Aren’t you Singaporeans proud of having MBS? I’m hardly proud of anything local but this is AWESOME. It’s created such a hype around SG! So many tourists are raving about it and Resort World Sentosa.

10) Took a magical trip to Disney World!!!

I AM A DISNEY PRINCESS!!
*flips non-existent long blonde hair*

I grew up watching The Little Mermaid and Pocahontas and Beauty & The Beast ON REPEAT.

Like seriously I know the lines to every song in the movies (so does Sam haha WTF he’s a princess too) and I love Disney classics so much because they make me a happier person!!!

Happy cartoons = happy people. It’s true. People who don’t like cartoons are usually miserable poopyfaces who have absolutely no sense of humour and cannot channel their inner childish self to appreciate simple cartoons…. …. ..true statistics pulled out my arse.

My parents took me and my brother to Orlando’s Disney World once,

that was when I was like 6? But I remember it being so stupidly fun! My dad then took me to Disneyland in California and that was even more fun because this time I was actually big enough to go on all the roller coasters and shit. One of the best times in my life… Disney land is every kid’s fantasy!!! :’)

It’s the happiest place in the world… Where every freakin’ day is filled with princesses and magical castles and mythical creatures and mermaids and cute cartoons and prince charmings and turkey legs and churros and overpriced burgers and people lining up for a picture with Cinderella!!!!

At the start of our relationship, I kept telling Sam how Disneyland / world makes EVERYONE happy and excited and how much I wished to go back there again because I had so much fun and it means so much to me yadayadaaa…

To my utmost surprise he said, I PROMISE I’ll take you there” and 2 months later, we were halfway across the world in Orlando, Florida, America!! Wtf right. Our relationship really does progress quite fast. At the time we were only together for like 2 months + or something but he already made a veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy expensive investment and brought me on the holiday of my life.

TY baby you are the bestest!!!

11) Toured the rest of Orlando – theme parks, beaches, and other attractions!!!

Besides visiting Sea World (one of my favourite places in the world), Universal Studios, Adventure Island, Animal Kingdom, Aquatica, etc (and all the other major theme parks)….

We also visited this beautiful beach called Clearwater beach, about 3 hours from Orlando’s city!!! Even though we couldn’t swim because it was freezing cold winter, we had awesome fun dining at their beachside seafood restaurants (Crabby Bills I think it was called) which served AMAZING seafood at very affordable prices in huge portions!!!

We got ourselves a little cabana and spent the day lying down on the sand, looking into each others eyes and falling asleep to the sound of childrens laughter and the gentle breezes and waves of the sea! ♥

I wish our Singaporean dollar wasn’t so weak… It’s hard when I travel to Western countries where their currency is soooooo much stronger which makes EVERYTHING so much more expensive, unnecessarily! And when they come to our country it’s like they are rich for no reason. Why oh why!

The woes of a young girl who wants to travel across the world…

This is one main reason why I wanna quickly get out of Singapore and study / work overseas. I want to get as much exposure as possible! See the world! Live life!!!!

Actually I’m not quite as pissed about the weak Singapore dollar as I am about the fact that Singapore itself is so small and boring. If Singapore was bigger or more beautiful / interesting, I’d spend touring this place instead of having to travel so often so I won’t become bored outta my brains!!! I envy Australians because Australia itself is effing massive and the country is immensely beautiful..

Landscape is stunning, people are friendly, easy access to all tourist sites, endless amount of activities to do, not so far from other asian countries if you want a change of culture, currency is quite strong…

I’m sure other faraway countries are beautiful too… like erm… Europe? But that’s too far away that I know NOTHING about the place (except that it is romantic, beautiful and expensive and has good food) so I guess I don’t have very much to say about it. I will rave about it when I do get the chance to go there!

12) Interviewing a firefighter and getting a tour around Central Fire Station!!!

I thought it was a very novel experience getting upclose with a firefighter and having him tell me about his job.

I have great admiration for these people…
Along with on-site paramedics, marines, soldiers in the army, air force, and everyone else great!!!

It’s these people who risk all they have to protect what WE have. People like you and me.. Seriously, what would we do without firefighters and other selfless people? Can you imagine if there was a fire burning your house down and there was NOBODY to phone help for? Nobody brave enough to run into that house going up in flames to pull out your scared child that’s still trapped in there.

These things don’t only happen in blockbuster movies, they are real situations and very real people we’re talking about here…

I was honoured to be given a VIP tour around Singapore’s oldest Fire Station (Central Fire station). They showed me how to operate their equipment (dunno why they’d do that but lol ok) and other cool stuff like how they slide down the famous metal pole in times of emergency and I also had the privilege speaking a few paramedics and firefighters and *insert other high rank here.. sorry don’t know much about the official titles* and one of them told me a very heartwarming story of when there was an earthquake crisis overseas and they went over voluntarily (no pay!) to help and there was dead bodies lying around everywhere and the place they were trying to provide aid for was dangerous and unhygienic and everything but they still stayed on to ease the suffering of the victims and how they saved their lives…

It was so touching :’)

It’s not everyday you get to hear a story like that from a real hero!!!

13) Went on a hot air balloon, parasailing and a helicopter ride!!!

I’ve always seen these three things in movies and I’ve been DYING to try em out!

So I did. Yay!!!

Anything that’s got to do with “flying” gets me all excited because I love that feeling of weightlessness. It’s like I AM SUPERMAN HEHE LOOK AT ME!!

All three are equally thrilling, although the one that really gets your adrenaline pumping is parasailing. You are literally dangling over NOTHING, it feels like you’re flying… And it goes waaaaay higher than I thought!

Now, I’m really itching to try out bungee jumping and sky diving. But Sam has been scaring me with all these horror stories about bungee / sky diving gone wrong and people dying and whatever…. makes me scared because I’m chicken shit when it comes to these things :(

I’m not actually scared of the activity itself, but the MENTAL part shits me. Just knowing there’s room for error sends me into a fit of panic…

Even though I ♥ roller coasters and make it a point to ride every single one in the theme park, without fail I’d mumble a little quick prayer before we get on even though I’m not even religious… I’m not really asking for god’s blessing, it’s just to comfort myself LOL.

And if I hear a tiny squeak from the metal railings or something, I think, “SHIT am I goin to fall off this thing and die?! Wtf nooo!!!”

I sincerely regret watching Final Destination because I swear that fucking movie makes me paranoid of EVERYTHING. The people die in the most random way in that show… And they make it seem so innocent and natural that I’m terrified it’ll happen to me too.

The show’s concept is really fucked up. It’s like even if you carefully avoid death, it still persists in finding its way to you. I do not like that idea at all FML. I’d like to think that if I survived a potentially fatal car crash, it’s because I am too pretty to die (jk.. the word is lucky) and I’d proceed to live on a long and happy fulfilling life and become a grandmother and eventually die healthy and 100 years old in my bed.. not spend the next few days trying to avoid death altogether again wtf?!

…..Ok, scary shit aside, I’ve actually done INDOOR sky diving before!

You don’t dive out of a plane of course, but they put you in the same suit they use as real skydiving and you enter this facility where winds at speeds of hundreds of kilometers per hour are coming out of the ground from below you and the air force is pretty much exactly the same thing you get when you jump out of a plane at few thousand feet above the ground, so you are suspended in air, just like the real activity!!!

It’s awesomely fun and surprisingly very easy to manage.. Although the winds can be a bit strong, it’s the closest feeling to flying you’ll ever get! The best part about indoor sky diving is that you don’t only FALL,

you can actually gain height and perform stunts as well.

Check this video out!!! Omg makes me wanna do it again.. so fun!

Depending on how you contour your body, you can manipulate it to escalate through the air and you can fly up and down like Superman!!

The scariest part is actually jumping INTO that tunnel.. They say you’re meant to jump in with your hands in the air and your back arched, so you may be lifted up into the air by the strong windy force coming from the ground and you pretty much hold your breath, take a leap of faith and JUMP and expect yourself to fall but instead you glide effortlessly into the air and you go like, WTF?? Awesome!!!”

As far as I know, very few places in the world offer indoor skydiving.. but lucky for Singaporeans, the nearest one is super near! I did indoor sky diving at Genting Highlands, which is like an 8 hour coach ride away… It doesn’t cost you a lot to do this activity either.

You can’t miss this experience.. it’s neither dangerous nor scary, it’s just stupidly cool.

Now that I’m so riled up about indoor skydiving, the next time Sam comes to Singapore, I’m gonna take him to Genting and take him indoor skydiving! OMG baby are you excited?? Hehe.

14) Went up to the mountains and frolicked in real snow for the first time ever!!!

I haven’t got around to blogging about this yet, BUT I WENT TO THE SNOW!!!

Omgggggggggg.

For the longest time I’ve been wanting to toboggan down snowy hills and make snow angels and taste snowflakes and build snowmen and go snowmobiling and take snow lifts and look at pure white snowy mountains and I FINALLY DID IT.

It was so sureal because I’ve seen snow in real life before, once in Las Vegas where we had flurries (super rare event!!) and another time in Chicago, but that’s different because you get a little bit of snow only – you’re not up in the mountains, no skis and snowboards, etc..

I actually plucked up some courage and tried my hand (or in this case, feet) at snowboarding.

What a mistake… I FAILED.

Snowboarding is an extreme sport and I can’t even ride a bicycle, wtf was I thinking trying to ride steep, snowy, slippery, freezing mountains on a stupid board???

Nonetheless it was an incredible experience and I’m so looking forward to going to the snow again! (even though it was mind-numbingly cold. i don’t get cold very easily, but this was so bad it gave me a bad fever and terrible muscle aches after we came down from the mountains)

I felt like such a kid when I was there… I was in awe of how pretty everything was!! I had a lot of fun jumping into super thick piles of snow everywhere – it’s like marshmallow but the shaved ice version!! The texture’s kinda like cotton candy.

SO FLUFFY AND WHITE!! ^.^

I didn’t realize how dangerous the snow was though.

It’s IMPOSSIBLE to walk around without good snow shoes, otherwise you’d be slipping and tripping all over the place. It’s also impossible to drive properly in the snow…

It oversnowed while we were there and absolutely no vehicles were allowed, even with chains on the wheels, except the special snowmobiles made for super thick snow! Large amounts of snow kept falling from rooftops at random intervals and scared the fuck outta everyone.

I soon understood that the snow up in the mountains is vastly different from the kind of snow I’d imagine to wake up to on Christmas morning…

When you’re up in the alps, the conditions are extremely harsh.. Strong winds, steep hills, disgusting temperatures o_x

15) Traveled to Perth and explored other parts of Western Australia!!!

My most recent holiday… Yet it feels like so long ago!!

I’m a big fan of Australia, and I love how it’s so close to home… It’s a white country and all but it’s so multi cultural and the people are fantastic.

It feels like home away from home.

Whereas in America it’s a lot more hostile and racism is a bigger issue because many people there haven’t been exposed to as many races and cultures… Everyone says “Americans only know about America” and I hate to admit it but there is some truth to that statement! Not every American is ignorant about things outside of the states but many have never ever ever ever left their own state, let alone travel to other countries!

Ok why am I talking bout America…

Back to my point on Australia!!!

This trip was really fun because it was the first trip me and Sam’s taken that we could drive around in a rented car,
which was super convenient and saved us quite a bit on transportation… The freedom of being able to do anything and go anywhere you want, anytime, especially in a foreign country is sooooo good.

We took road trips and saw Albany, passed by a lot of small towns and Rockingham, etc :)

16) Took a plane flight on my own for the very first time!!!

It may not seem like such a big deal but it is to me.

It screams I-N-D-E-P-E-N-D-E-N-C-E!!!

Embarking on a journey thousands of miles up in the air, traveling across oceans and countries and going away to a foreign land all by yourself…. Doesn’t that sound scary?

I’m afraid of plane flights and think the entire experience is utterly awful and once vowed to never travel alone (the flights get so lonely! luckily mine was for only 8 hours)

It’s so tiresome and boring with transits and waiting for check in and departure and whatever..

The fact that my mum even LET me travel alone to another country is a wonder of its own.

My mum is the kind of mother who would call me at 7pm and ask me to come home soon (even though I’m 18 and don’t come home till like midnight or something) or she will be like, “when you take taxi at night, be careful of weird taxi drivers ah!!!”

Or when I tell her I’m going to the beach, she’s like “be careful when you’re swimming..” like as if I’m gonna drown or something. Basically she’s very protective and worries a lot, so I was very surprised when she didn’t object to me flying alone!

Her baby girl is all grown up now and she trusts her enough to let her go… awww :’)

Don’t I feel adult-ish!!!

17) Traveled to Melbourne and drove down the Great Ocean Road!!!

This is one of the few, FEW pics I have in Melbourne itself.

Most of the time we were out on road trips and whatever so we didn’t go to the city very much…

It was my first time in Melbourne! (or in the state of Victoria) I’ve heard wonderful things about this place but was kinda disappointed when I did get here. I don’t see what’s the big hooha about?

It’s like Perth, but less scenic, more rushed and looks a little depressing actually… They have a lot of old buildings, that’s apparently supposed to be Victorian but it wasn’t the elegant, vintage Victorian look it was the old, “this needs to be renovated” Victorian look o.O

The food wasn’t that amazing either. I wouldn’t even be this disappointed if I hadn’t heard so many raves from other people!!!! Lies!
The food is just as good or even better anywhere else.

We checked out the Titanic exhibition in the Melbourne Museum and I liked that at least. Very interesting and they had a lot of cool things on display…

I really hope that I’ve misjudged Melbourne and that it’s actually more interesting than this!

The Great Ocean Road!!!!

Scenic indeed.. Long ass drive, but it was worth it. Saw the Twelve Apostles (from the air!) and strolled along various sandy beaches…

Realized what a joy driving in the country side is. Not many other cars, no traffic lights, just a really peaceful and quiet drive amongst green hills and hundreds of sheep and cows and horses and lush greenery and even more hills and the blue skies and fluffy white clouds!

Road trips are so much fun and very affordable too!

They may be short but they’re still a hell of an experience.

And that my friends, is a brief recap of my 17th year of life!!!

Would’ve listed more things, but I guess these would be the most entertaining to read about…. for now.

Compared to the other 16 years of my life, I’d say year 17 was rather eventful. I grew up A LOT during this year… Experienced many things I didn’t think I would until many years later. Time really flies… Take this from a 18 year old who didn’t know where the hell her 17 went.

I suppose a lot of it went to sitting around at home waiting for Sam to come to Singapore… Being in a long distance relationship changes you. It made me really boring and not feel like doing anything when he’s not around! Honestly 99% of my time is spent moping around at home nowadays. Really wish I didn’t have to feel this way but not much I can do about it now.

Could’ve done so much more with a normal relationship ZZZ!! Samuel Aaron McArthur are you reading this?! Can you please fix this shitty situation like now?

Now that’s all said and done:

Can’t wait to read what I have to say next year - “18 things I did when I was 18″!

xoxo,
Jess

A la Mer “by the Sea”

After discovering that I could stay in holiday homes during my vacations and that they were a great addition to the whole experience, I made sure that everywhere we went, we had an awesome place to stay at.

Previously, we’d stayed at Ocean Mist Villa in Albany, and now after all our fun in Perth..

We’re headed to Rockingham instead!

To be exact, we were situated in Warnbro, but since nobody will know where that is I guess it doesn’t really matter… I was so excited for this place because I literally spent HOURS and hours (like six full hours) searching the internet for that perfect getaway.

I knew two things - it had to have a spa and be near the beach. It’s always our number 1 requirement!

When I saw that the dates were available for our specific dates, I was jumping up and down and woke Sam up from his sleep going, “OMG BABY!! This place is SO amazing, you just have to see it.”

And to my amazement, the place was actually more beautiful in reality than in the pictures. I had no idea just how freakishly cool A la Mer was.

Yup, that’s what the house we rented was called… “A la Mer”, which apparently means By The Sea in French!

The main bedroom… Haha oops me and Sam messed it up a bit.

But you can tell that it’s a very quaint, victorian sort of set up!!! The house looks ancient, I think it must’ve been around for generations but that’s what I love about it..

it has so much character :)

This is the OTHER part of the master bedroom.

When you sit down on the bed, this is what you see directly in front of you.

A chair, a bath tub, shower, the sink and to the right is a door that leads you to the toilet!!!

Ok I may sound really stupid for saying this but I LOVE bathrooms that have separate toilets!!

In Singapore we obviously don’t have the land (80% of us live in high rise buildings I think, to conserve space) to have separate rooms for such things and I can’t remember how many times I’ve wanted to poop and then shower but don’t wanna do either after each other or someone’s bathing when I need to pee…. so seriously, separated toilets / bathrooms FTW.

I loved the idea of an open shower and bathtub… VERY interesting experience haha :)

You literally jump from the shower straight into bed!!

The thing about houses that look old… they actually ARE old, so the tap water was icy cold and took forever to get running.. plus it made annoying screechy sounds!!

I loved how so many of the original furniture and decorations of the house are still intact.

It’s mind blowing to think that I’m actually staying in someones real HOUSE. Real families lived here, and I’m supposing someone passed on and so this house is now a holiday home.

But it felt so personal that I couldn’t help wondering who lived here and what spectacular taste they had for choosing the whole layout.

Bath tub… how many people have had the pleasure of soaking in this after a long tiring day at work? :)

Stepping out of the room, you immediately see this cute little window with a chef on it (lol I assumed they loved to cook because their kitchen is AMAZING)

Kitchen’s on the left, main doorway is to the right, dining table is also on the right and in front of us is a reading area….

Dining table..

Complete with big ass candles for an elegant touch!!! Love it.

Reading area…

Can you believe this place was completely ours for 5 days?!? MAD!!!

It is soooooooo gorgeous!! Felt amazing coming home to this.

Reading area…

Complete with books from the personal collection of the previous owners. This house is so personal I feel so connected to the people who used to live here.

Like I said…. they have impeccable taste!!

Even their table lamp is super cute. Everything whimsical yet quaint and traditional but stylish at the same time. I want my house to look like this!!! It’s pretty much the most amazing place I’ve seen. Posh modern contemporary lofts could not compare to this.

Door to the kitchen

The living room!!!!!

OMG I miss this place so much…. We had heaps of fun staying here. It’s so surreal seeing pictures of this place online, and then less than a week later actually STAYING IN IT.

Call me crazy but I’ve always been very easily fascinated by homes.

I love looking at peoples houses, especially when they put pride into decorating it and making it look as wonderful as it can be! It says so much about what kind of people they are.

A person’s home is like their very own haven, step into it and find out what it’s like to live a day in their life!

The funny thing is, me and Sam actually got really freaked out by A la Mer at the start. When we first got here, it was like 1am (same day we went to Fremantle and fishing so we were tired and twas late) and we saw a random car PARKED in OUR driveway.

We were like, “WTF? Is somebody else here?”

So even though we had the keys to the place, we checked all the rooms (it’s a big, big house) and some rooms were locked or kept away and we were scared that there’d be people lurking around because it’s such a quiet area!!!

I don’t feel safe in a “house” house,
like y’know, just off the streets instead of apartments, because it’s so easy to break into…

I’m used to staying in secure condominiums, where there’s 24 hour security guard and people need permission to even walk within 100 metres of the condo (there’s a long driveway here) and if you scream, there will be somebody to help but in obscure suburbs, no one’s gonna notice even if you die la!!

A la Mer is very charming, but very creepy at night…

Especially with the “ancient” look and the victorian settings. Thankfully we called the owner and she said that it was just the gardener (their neighbour) parked his car in this driveway because his own is full.. or some bullshit like that.

I kept telling Sam, “OMG what if they are watching us? What if this is all a trap, like to trick tourists into being kidnapped or killed?”

Me and Sam got so freaked out that we slept with a HUGE KNIFE under our pillows hahah!! And we locked the bedroom doors. Omg I’m such a wimp sometimes.

But hey, if you were staying in some random holiday home in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country and you saw somebody elses car with TINTED windows parked in your driveway at 1am, you’d be scared to death too!

Indeed very charming in the day time though!!!!! :)

It smells lovely too, kinda like scented wood.

Kitchen where we had a hell of a time cooking up a storm :)

I squealed in delight when I ran around the place….

I have no words to describe how much I am in awe!!

They’re got everything you need.

Stocked pantries, Wii console, state of the art equipments (fucking amazing SPA OMFG), homely touches, even a small personal gym…

Which plate’s design suits your dinner tonight?

I like this one

More intricate details… I’m supposing the wife chose most of these!

They’re so feminine and classy.

TV and the couch, on your left is the open area where there’s deck chairs and BBQ grill and a table for breakfasts by the garden.. or BBQ under the stars!

On top of the TV are family portraits of the people who used to live here!!! They were in black and white and looked super traditional. That freaked Gwen out LOL

Extra bedroom!

This house could fit so many people. So we invited Gwen & Blake over and they slept in this one I think!

Extra bathroom…

Ok enough of the inside of the house…

Let’s check out the outside – equally cool!!

Great for sipping wine at night or lazing around in the day!!

The super hi-tech SPA that we spent hours in!!!

It lights up and changes to different neon colours… Mad awesome and high tech LOL there’s even different “seats” for you to take. Some seats massage your back / feet, other seats are for couples to get closer to each other, etc… Huge.

Thinking about these memories just makes me melt inside… Hilarious moments. We tried faking different accents from different countries, and Gwen suddenly told me she misses Singapore so we started singing national anthems hahaha wtf.

We also started singing that indian song you learn in school “munneru valiba munneri endrum thodu van nok ku vai” OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES HAHAHAH don’t you guys remember?!?!?

Blake and Sam were like, “WTF is that an indian song you girls are singing??”

It was sooo funny.

There really is nothing like soaking in a hot bubbling spa under a cold, winter starry night….

And of course, singing funny songs with fab friends!!!!!

I ♥ karaoke with Gwenny hehe.

Outside area… Wish I would’ve been less lazy and taken more pics!! They had a beautiful garden > :(

But I guess on holiday you really don’t wanna work that hard… Instead of capturing pictures to remember it by, I was busy living in the moment and enjoying myself!!

If I could rewind time I’d definitely have taken more pics tho.

And that, pretty much sums up your tour around A La Mer!!!

The most awesomest cosy quaint house EVER! ♥

I hope my future house can be just like this. Huge, unique, cosy, modern yet traditional and we’ll have a freaking spa and kick ass garden!!!

I really envy the family that got to stay there for a good part of their lives… They must’ve had really cool parents if their place looked that awesome. All the fun you could have with your family there!!

Since this entry is dedicated to A la Mer, I’ll be posting random pictures of the times we spent there…

Wake up in the morning to prepare breakfast!!!

With a kitchen like that, cooking is ANYTHING but a chore.

Yummylicious breakfast while soaking up the freshness of the morning air and golden sun!

Scrambled eggs just the way I like them…

Super squishy and runny, added with milk and butter, beaten until really frothy and served hot!!

I don’t fancy normal ham, but I do like proscuitto!! Sam was like “Wtf even the ham you like is expensive” LOL but it’s so delish mmmm :)

It’s like smoked salmon, but the ham version!! Salmon on its own is good, but smoked / cured is MUCH better.

Potato gems and the aftermath of gluttons’ breakfast! The two sticks were actually satay sticks… Better than the ones in Singapore wtf. So cheap and good.

I reckon Australian supermarkets are to die for, they have like EVERYTHING. Good quality brands at affordable prices and with their deli already-prepared selections, nobody can say they don’t have time to cook anymore!!

Moving on from breakfast, other random pictures of our days!!!

I don’t remember taking this, but someone else did..

I think it was perched in our backyard in A la Mer. Is it an eagle?

Crazy home made dinner that rocked my world!!! Famous creamy mushroom pasta (yes again I LOVE THIS DISH) and roasted herbs chicken with cherry tomatoes omgggggggggg I miss such glorious food!

Screw fine dining, didn’t anyone tell the chefs that the most amazing meals are home made and cheap and in gigantic portions??

Home made creme brulee with love!! Super cute haha Sam made this for me :)

Since it doesn’t have that burnt top, it tasted like a cross between creme brulee and pana cotta… so good though.

I know I have to come up with a wider vocabulary, everything I describe is either “amazing” or “wonderful” or “so good” but OMFG they really are hahaha!!!

In the car going for brunch!!!

I ♥ Sam’s driving, doesn’t give me a headache.. Or maybe traffic in Aus was just that little and smooth.

After a morning stroll on the beach, it’s time for brunch!! (this was near the end of Perth trip and I was obviously getting very lazy :P

lots of food and lazing around, not much sight seeing)

Isn’t this picture really interesting?

I’m wearing a yellow hat, and so is the woman in the picture behind me! Three different angles of three different “yellow” women.. Love the coincidental structures.

Hot white chocolate!!!!!

Where can I find this in SG, people? I love chocolate, but white chocolate is 100x better!! ♥

We had a
“Formal”
dinner because the four of us were celebrating our anniversaries!!! Our “get-together” date is only 1 day apart from each other!

Wow I look strangely pissed there LOL I think I was wayyyy too hungry.

Gwennypoo!

I did her hair and make up, doesn’t she look adorable??? :)

Blakey boy!!

Sam looking cute hehe.

I love that blazer of his, although he wears it for like every formal occasion, lol! To be honest his fashion choices are rather terrible, so I have to pick out every outfit for him and give his wardrobe a make over!!!!’

Whoever said “love your partner for who they are” was obviously talking bout personality and acceptable flaws, not terrible personal style haha!

Him trying to be suave…

Lol looking at him looking at the menu reminds me of the time we went fine dining on Valentine’s Day at “The Cliff” in Sentosa, the bill came up to close to $300 for the both of us I think.

Food was TERRIBLE, extremely overpriced, portions tiny, but the most outrageous thing of all was the menu!!!

Everything is in fucking French or some bullshit!

Hello, just because I want to eat foie gras doesn’t mean I’m fucking French, ok?!? (I obviously know how to pronounce foie gras but there are items like “Jebousequez Laterrie” or something)

Can you have specific descriptions in English, plz? Not just “with tomatoes and onion sauce” How the fuck am I meant to know what you’re serving?

They don’t even have numbers to list the menu items, and I can’t ask the waiter because I can’t even pronounce it LOL.

Thank goodness Australians have more sense, and even if you go to an Authentic Italian restaurant.. the menu’s in English.

Bread with dips!

Other entree that I chose – Crispy duck confit thingy, super salty but effing good!!

WTF this is even better!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Beef fillet with a whole bunch of herbs and spices and the cheese / cream sauce is soooo good. The tomato salsa went really well with the beef and the creamy sauce…

Like a slice of heaven :)

Pretty cheap for what it’s worth too, I think it was AUD 35? I would SO go back to Rockingham just to have this if I lived in Western Australia! Aussies, go try it out!! Y2k Restaurant along Rockingham Beach.

My pasta. Tasted like aglio olio with a sweet cream and six juicy fat scallops for you to nomz on. WATERING AT THE MOUTH AS I TYPE THIS.

The best thing about having a boyfriend dining with you is that you get the best of both worlds.

Every time me and Sam sit down for a meal, we ask each other, “What do you want?” and I’d answer “I can’t decide if I want the beef fillet or the pasta.”

To which he would promptly reply, “Why don’t I get the beef fillet and you get the pasta, so you can try both?” and of course I’d be like,

“Awesome! ^.^”

If I like both, I have half of the meal each and if I don’t like one particular dish he’ll finish it for me and let me have his lol. This is true love, people!!! *sob*

Typing this makes me really hungry… Doesn’t help that it’s 1am too T_T

Sam very impressed with the food

Hahaha finishing this post with Gwen’s BEAUTIFUL expression!!

After blogging so much about my Australia trip, I still have MORE topics to cover…. Mad!!

You guys aren’t bored of reading about it yet right?

I guess this situation helps a bit coz I’ve been feeling so uninspired to blog lately. Like I have nothing to say which is weird because I always have something to say.

I’ve been feeling really lonely, miss my mum and bf a lot :(

But they’re both coming back from Australia soon, on the 18th of September, 2 days away from my 18th birthday on 20th Sept!!!

I CAN’T WAIT!!

Gonna be an awesome B’day this year, have much more things planned compare to the last… I’m gonna turn 18 hehe. I feel like such a big girl now.

Pray that all will go well for the remaining of September :)

Jess
