Slim Couture Post 3: Join us for our first event on 20th September!

Warning: there may or may not be a shocking photo of myself in my undies immediately below this sentence.

“Oh my gosh, look at her butt.” – Nicki Minaj in her newest video, Anaconda.

I’m not the only one in the world who actually likes that song (because of the video)… right? I think it’s hilarious. I can’t stop singing the song, especially when I made this collage of my side view with a photo I’d just taken earlier today at Slim Couture…. Check out my first and second post about my weight loss journey with Slim Couture if you haven’t already seen them. Damn right, look at that butt. It went from ginormous Nicki Minaj / Kim Kardashian-ish to, well, relatively normal. A normal kinda big. Hey, that I can deal with! Even though my weight loss progress with Slim Couture hasn’t been moving along in the kinda speed I’d had hoped for in the beginning no thanks to my usually non-existent dieting and frequent traveling + binging, at least I’ve got these photos for visual evidence of my efforts. The photo above is me with around 5kg+ loss, since the beginning of the treatment. I haven’t even dieted much (as any of my friends will tell you), perhaps less than 10% of what I’m supposed to (I’m sorry Slim Couture), so I do believe that Slim Couture’s treatment has worked wonders on me. Weight apart, my cm loss is pretty astounding. My ass looks like it shrank half in size! My tummy and waist are also way more slender. My boobs shrank considerably too (LOL), hence I could not wear the hideously large black bra in the first two photos any longer because it was so loose, it looked like I stole it from my grandmother’s closet. I don’t mind the smaller boobs though, large boobs are so heavy.

I don’t know how come I’ve become so okay with showing my underwear photos to everyone on my blog. I uploaded the above without even any second thoughts. I guess I got excited to share my progress with you all. I shrank it to a smaller size not to “preserve my decency”, but because I thought the visual disparities would be more immediate to the eye this way. I’m displaying unflattering photos of myself for the world to scrutinize and criticize on the internet, but hey, I don’t give a damn. I’ve reached the point whereby my physique is no secret or big deal, it is what it is and no matter anybody says about me (ew, her ass is so fat. yuck, shiberty has wide hips like a mother cow. omg did you see shiberty’s fugly pics in her granny underwear on her blog?) it is not going to faze me in the slightest. You won’t be able to tell me something I don’t already know. If it needs work, then work I shall. That’s exactly what I am right now – a work in progress.

I guess my weight is a matter-of-fact thing to me now, and I’m SO thankful that I can feel this rational about it…. because the worst feeling in the world is knowing you’re not in shape, and that you’re horribly unhealthy, yet feeling absolutely no resolution to do anything about it. Then letting people’s daggers of insults mercilessly rip you apart again and again. I know exactly how that feels, because my highest weight was over 80kg at one point in time. Accepting the situation for what it is – that you need help, be it physical, mental or nutritional, is so important because the first step to acting out changes in your life is solemn acknowledgement. You shouldn’t let yourself become too caught up with being ashamed of your obesity, as long as you’re working towards a solution. Everyone’s got their problems. You should embrace it like a real mental issue which results in physical consequences, such as anorexia and depression. People laugh at fat people all the time and think that they’re just greedy pigs who eat too much without exercising enough. While that may not be entirely untrue so to speak, that may not be the whole story.

Making that assumption is like saying anorexia only happens to bimbos who are so obsessed with vanity they don’t know how to differentiate skinny and malnutrition, or that depressed people are losers who can’t get a grip on their lives. It’s unfair to make such sweeping statements about a condition you haven’t been through yourself. If you’ve been through that shit, you won’t be so quick to judge others for it. I’ve been both depressed and obese before (happy to say that I am neither now), and I can tell you that if I could have it any other way in my life, I would NEVER have let myself fall into depression or obesity and I sorely wish it didn’t take me those few long years to fight the tough battles.

Sometimes there’s a back story that contributes to the main problem… some people actually have health issues that contribute to obesity, although sometimes, the reason for their obesity can be as simple as not having enough self-control. Some people drink away their feelings, and others eat their feelings. Both are unhealthy ways to deal with matters of the heart and mind. To me, food has always been a source of comfort. I love food in a way that few other people do. My idea of fun on a Sunday is to whip up a meal with friends. Food styling is currently my favorite hobby. I create customized desserts for a living. I’m a very discerning eater, sometimes maybe even a little snobbish. I love food, and food loves me so much that it wants to stay on my hips forever.

The reason why I gained so much weight is because I was too complacent, lazy, and uninspired to do anything about my horizontally expanding figure…. In a way, I wanted to “fuck it all” and just be “fat and happy”. Now, I realize, “fat and happy” are two words that are nearly impossible to use in the same sentence. I was doing photoshoots and trying to look good since I was 14 years old, and truth be told, I was tired of keeping it up. Looking good is a lifelong commitment. Eat right, keep fit, wax your armpits, shave your legs, groom your eyebrows, cut your hair, buy new trendy clothes that are often expensive… Jeez. Ain’t nobody got time for that. But, I realize that if you want something enough, you’ll make time for it to work out. If you look good, you feel good. It’s just the way it is. It’s not about being superficial… it’s about being realistic. Being really overweight, to me, is like having oily messy ungroomed hair that’s full of dandruff, yellow stained teeth with black cavities, bad breath or body odour.. these are things that are considered universally undesirable or unattractive not because everyone’s a judgemental asshole on a pedestal, but because these physical traits scream “I don’t care about me enough to take care of me”, or, “there’s something wrong with me”. And that, is a sign of unhealthiness. Everyone wants to be with somebody healthy, someone they can feel good around. I used to think that I was curvy, and that men liked curves, therefore I was still attractive and in decent shape…. because round is also a shape, right? *delusional*

But you know what? There’s a fine line between curvy, and plain fat, which I think gets blurred along the way based on people’s warped perceptions of beauty. Some people think they’re fat when they’re slim or SKINNY, while others think they’re cute and perfectly fine when they’re scientifically OBESE (me in 2011). You are definitely obese when your BMI says so. Yeah, some girls are big and curvy but it’s not full of cellulite and flabs. Look at Nicki Minaj. Girl’s got the biggest ass in the media industry, but she doesn’t have bulging love handles or soft lumps, from what I can tell from her Anacondo music video, at least. Damn, she’s in better shape than most people I know, and she’s HUGE. She’s REALLY thick in the middle. Bottom line is, you ain’t got no heavier bones or muscles that they don’t already give you leeway for. BMI calculators are very forgiving. I learned a hard lesson when I calculated my BMI one day and realized that it wasn’t even in the “Overweight” category like I’d expected, this freaken health website was actually telling me that I was very much OBESE. I cried myself to sleep that night, and tried to make myself feel better by eating more of my favorite food the next day. It’s a truly vicious cycle, low self esteem is. I disapprove of unnecessary and unconstructive blatant fat-shaming, but I also do not think promoting “curves” in the wrong way is acceptable. The kinda curves women want, are not jiggly lumps, simply put. I hope that by sharing my own opinions about what should be considered a healthy weight or not will help some girls out there who may be struggling with the concept of their size. They don’t know if they’re fat, obese, thin, or just normal. I would like to inspire, or rather, empower women who are overweight to do something about it. I don’t mean beat yourself up over it and feel shitty about your life. I mean hey, go on a sustainable diet, jump on the treadmill or go to Slim Couture. Do anything, except nothing.

Here’s some recent photos of myself, all cropped to square format because they were taken for Instagram originally:

I’m feeling a lot more confident, happy, and healthy these days.

I’m still flabby and a little thick, of course. If you touch my stomach, arms or thighs, they jiggle like jelly. I feel like Ditto the pokemon when I walk around. I’m definitely not toned, nor close to ideal physique still, which I would really some day like to be, after I work all these fats off. However long it takes, I hope, pray, and would like to believe, some day I’ll get there. I could definitely stand to lose another 5kg at least, before I start hitting the gym (being on the Slim Couture treatment means no excessive exercising). But for now, I do feel rather pleased with myself, for I know I’ve come so far from being a size UK 16. I have Slim Couture to thank for this. I can’t say I could have done this all by myself without them – that would be a lie. When I faltered, they stuck by me and encouraged me the whole time, always pushing me along when I needed the motivation. When I felt like giving up and cried out, “I can’t do this!!!” they would always firmly tell me, “Yes, you can.”

I’m not the only one who has benefited from Slim Couture’s treatments.

Look at Sam’s amazing results in just slightly over 1 month! He lost more than a total of 6kg. Guys tend to get tummy fat easier than girls, and that’s always been his problem area. Girls will collect fat on their hips, thighs and arms… but more often than not, for a guy, it usually goes straight to their gut. Slim Couture is open to helping not only the ladies, but men too. Sam tried to get rid of his tummy by crash dieting previously, but the results were slow and unconvincing.. and he only started on Slim Couture after witnessing that it worked on me. I’m honest-to-god convinced and happy that Slim Couture could help him get rid of his beer and food belly, which was no easy feat at all. He’s a lot more confident now, and has even started hitting the gym these days thanks to a new found appreciation for keeping himself fit. He looks better now than he does in the photos above!

Having said all of this… If you’re still not convinced about whether this method of TCM slimming works, or if you’d just like to find out more information about how this can help you or someone you know, I think you’ll be happy to know that Slim Couture is holding their first ever event on 20th September 2014, 1-4pm at China Square Central, 18 Cross Street, #02-06 Singapore 048423… and they’ve asked me to invite 15 of my followers down to come hear about my personal experience, alongside my good friend Yina Goh!

This will be a perfect opportunity to:

✔ Come and chat with us bloggers during this casual session
✔ Find out if it’s just good angles and photoshop or do we really look like that in person
✔ Ask the lady bosses of Slim Couture any question you’ve ever had about their methods, techniques and treatment
✔ Check out the actual premises of one of their outlets
✔ Receive 5% off your Slim Couture package if you sign up on that day itself
✔ Go home with a door gift worth $108
✔ Indulge in healthy food that won’t make you fat – catering will be provided and it will showcase the carefully selected approved diet foods
✔ Wish me Happy Birthday personally, because the event day is my actual date of birth! I turn 22 on the 20th of September!

You don’t have to pay or sign up or whatever to come join us that day. No strings attached, that’s a promise. Slim Couture isn’t into the hard-sell method and will not pressure you into buying any package if you’re simply not interested. The lady bosses are extremely humorous and nice in real life, so I’m sure we’ll all have a good time. All you have to do is be the first 15 to email them at, quoting “Shiberty X Slim Couture”, and you’ll receive an invite!

I’m awfully glad to have another opportunity to meet my followers! I would like to thank you for the support you’ve given me throughout the months and years in person, too. In all seriousness… I’m gonna be pretty upset if nobody shows up to wish me Happy Birthday, lol. Our partners, Sam and Yongzhuan (Yina’s fiance) will also be present that day to speak from a man’s point of view, to switch things up a bit.

Even if you’re NOT overweight or fat, you can still come to ask about how Slim Couture can help you target problem areas, or you can come on behalf of someone whom you know that might benefit from TCM slimming. The entire Slim Couture team, Yina and I, are extremely excited about this event, and we can’t wait to meet you in person. See you lovely people there!

Busan Highlights

As much as I’d like to believe that I’m well-traveled… I suppose I am really not, compared to a lot of other people who have the privilege to jet set around the world. I’m working to change that fact in the near future, of course. I’ve written a fair bit about the places I HAVE been to, but there’s way too many different places that await my exploring around the world, and I’m getting impatient!

List of countries I’ve toured thus far only include: USA, Philippines, Australia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and umm.. yeah, I think that’s pretty much it. I’m absolutely dying to visit Europe, Japan and Maldives. Thanks to Korea Tourism Organization Singapore, I’ve got one more cool place to add to my “been there, done that” list…. which is… South Korea!!!! DAEBAK!!! Annyeonghaseyoooo! I had the amazing opportunity to visit the vibrant cities of Busan and Seoul, & share with you guys my itinerary for the trip. I did a frantic happy dance and yelped in excitement when I received the news that I’d be doing this travel assignment. While not exactly a full on travel blogger, I do love to discover, snap, share and live a fulfilling life so hopefully I’ll be posting more travelogues in the next year to come!

First off, before our flight at Changi Airport, we went to get ourselves a portable wireless device that would enable us to have wifi anytime, anywhere while in Korea! It caps at 500MB per day, and works for as long as you rent it for. Along with a prepaid SIM card, we were able to update social media sites whenever we wanted… it felt so good to stay connected to home 24/7, even though I was halfway across the world! The best part is that you can connect up to 10 devices simultaneously, so if you’re on a tight budget I guess everyone could share one on a group trip. Get yours at Changi Recommends Counter @ Changi Terminal 2.

We flew Asiana Airlines directly to Incheon airport, and while full of turbulence (no thanks to weather conditions), it was a relatively comfortable ride. The air stewardesses were all good looking in a typical fair-skinned, doe-eyed Korean way, and I had my first Korean meal onboard – bibimbap! Delicious, as far as plane food goes. After a 6 hour red-eye flight, I was delirious to arrive at Incheon airport. I was immediately blown away by how modern and high-tech everything was! I thought Singapore was crazy about staying up to date with technology, but I think the Koreans have surely one-upped us on this. Wifi is everywhere, alongside state of the art gadgets and infrastructure.

The cute girl you see above was my traveling partner for the week, Gwen, who’s here representing! Located a short walk from the arrival gates, we bought our tickets to board the KTX (Korea Train Express) ride to Busan, which takes 4 hours +.. and thus began another epic journey. When we finally arrived at Busan, the weather was beautiful – warm, not too humid, sunny and absolutely welcoming!

According to Wikepedia,
“With over 3.6 million people, Busan is South Korea’s second largest city and largest seaport. Busan is known for its beaches, hot springs, nature reserves and events such as the city’s renowned international film festival held each fall. Busan is a good destination for those seeking a more laid back atmosphere than Seoul. Located at the southern tip of the Korean peninsula, Busan’s important port gives the city an international flair, with sailors from around the world trooping through and a growing number of tourists.”

I present to you: the highlights of our 2 days in Busan!

• Shinsegae Centum City (신세계 센텀시티) •

A true shopaholic’s heaven – it is, impressively, the world’s largest department store. Someone like my mother would go crazy here. It’s so huge, in fact, that we were rather daunted just by the sheer size of it when we walked in. The row of shops seemed never ending. I didn’t know where to start taking photos amid throngs of shoppers everywhere, so I settled for visually appealing shots at the food basement, which we headed straight for because we were starving travelers. Even the food court area offered tons of delights! We couldn’t resist a strawberry nutella crepe with vanilla ice cream and a cheesecake slice.. it was to die for. I heard that Spaland is one of the mall’s most popular attractions, being great value for money and a must-do if you don’t mind getting naked in front of everyone. Regretfully, we were too exhausted on our first day there and weren’t feeling up to it, so after some half hearted browsing of the mall, we headed back to the hotel early to catch up on much needed rest. I wish we’d gone back another day to check out the mall properly, but our days were packed with activities. You have to check this place out if you visit Busan!

Directions to Shinsegae Centum City: From Busan Station, take subway to Centum City Station (Busan Subway line #2)

• Oryukdo Skywalk (부산 오륙도 스카이워크) •

The Oryukdo Skywalk can be found at Oryukdo Seungdumal, on the southernmost point of Igidae Park’s coastal walking path. It’s a U-shaped glass walkway that spans 9 meters toward the sea, making it seem as if visitors are floating over the ocean because of the transparent panels you’re walking on. You’ll even have to put on special shoes before you enter the area so as not to damage the glass.

I am terrified of heights, so I was stuck dead in my footsteps for awhile, before I plucked up the courage to walk towards the edge of the path, clinging onto the railing and trying not to look down at seemingly impending doom as much as possible (even though that’s the whole point!) It didn’t take long for me to forget about my phobia and worries. The view of the Oryukdo Islands, the costal line and with the cool ocean breeze blowing in my hair… was breathtaking. A picture perfect postcard moment straight from the movies! I stood there for quite some time, taking it all in, feeling extremely grateful for all that I had in my life at that moment. Busan is such a photo worthy place, and this has to be the best spot of them all. My top recommended spot for you to visit in Busan because you’ll get unforgettable photos to remember your trip by!

Directions to Oryukdo Skywalk: Take local bus No. 27, 131 and get off at the last stop at the back gate of Oryukdo SK View Apartment.

• Jagalchi Fish Market (자갈치시장) •

The Jagalchi Market is Korea’s largest seafood market. After the Korean War, the market solidified itself as a fish market. Most of the people who sell fish are women, so the women who sell here are called ‘Jagalchi Ajumma,’ ‘ajumma’ meaning middle-aged or married women. This market represents Busan and is famous throughout the country. If you visit, you can eat fresh raw fish right at the market. Even these days you can see women selling mackerel, sea squirts (ascidians) and whale meat (!!!) on wooden boxes along the road. Every year in October the Jagalchi Cultural Tourism Festival is held, and it is easy to visit because of the convenient transportation provided by the subway. The Jagalchi Market is where you can see the lifestyle of the indigenous Busan natives.

It really tickled my toes to see an octopus escape out of an ahjumma’s bucket onto the floor… and her furiously grabbing it and shoving it back where it belongs! The type of sashimi found in Korea is significantly different from the usual Japanese favorites. No salmon, tuna or sea urchin here. There were many sea creatures I have never even seen in documentaries before that had my eyes bulging at the very sight of them. How fascinating to think that people eat such vastly different foods around the world. What’s native to them, is 100% alien to me. There’s lots to see, smell and eat around here. The Jagalchi Market is by far the most bustling market I’ve been to – a great place to absorb the lively atmosphere and feel like a local as you weave through their rows and rows of stalls with ahjummas offering assorted, bewildering and strange seafood, dried goods, cooked food and more! There’s even an aquarium section where you’re guaranteed the freshest catch. It’s full of life – your seafood is literally still swimming in tanks and buckets and can be prepared for you on the spot… I would’ve loved to try the famous live Korean octopus (that wiggles out of your plate and sucks onto your throat as you eat it) but I’d just recovered from food poisoning barely a day before, and I wasn’t about to take any chances.

Directions to Jagalchi Market: Jagalchi Station (Busan subway line 1), Exit 10. Turn right onto Jagalchi 3(sam)-gil Street. Walk for 5min, then turn left to arrive at Jagalchi Market.

• Haedong Yonggungsa Temple (해동 용궁사) •

When you visit a country that is as culturally rich as Korea, you HAVE to visit at least one of their well-known temples. Most temples in Korea are located in the mountains, but Haedong Yonggungsa Temple is situated on the coast of the north-eastern portion of Busan. This superb find of a tourist spot and temple offers visitors the rare find of a temple along the shore line. Statues of the twelve zodiac animals greeted us at the entrance. The main sanctuary of the temple was reconstructed in 1970 with careful attention paid to the colors that were traditionally used in such structures. Other special sites at the temple are the 108 stairs and stone lanterns lining the rocky landscape. After going down the 108 steps (which we also had to climb back up…), you’ll be delighted to discover the stunning sight of the temple next to the sea. It was absolutely worth the cab ride here! By the way, cabs in Busan are affordable compared to the rates we pay in Singapore, and most importantly… making your getting around to your destinations extremely convenient. I wouldn’t recommend cabbing in Seoul, though, since the traffic there is much more congested.

Many people often come to this spot on New Year’s Day to make a wish for the new year as they watch the sun come up. April is an especially beautiful time of year with cherry blossoms in full bloom. The birth of Buddha is also celebrated in April (following the lunar calendar) and offers a spectacular night view as the temple area is aglow with electrically lit lanterns. Oh, I have to return to Korea during Spring… Imagine this place in Spring, during sunset. Jesus. Or in this case.. Buddha?

Directions to Haedong Yonggungsa Temple: Haeundae Station (Busan Subway Line 2), Exit 7. Take Bus 181 and get off at Yonggungsa Temple (용궁사)

• Haeundae Beach (해운대해수욕장) •

Probably the most famous beach in the country, Haeundae Beach is 1.5 km long, 30~50m wide, and spans an area of 58,400㎡.

The entire stretch of beach area is littered with countless similarly themed large umbrellas to shade the funny Koreans who seem to like the beach, yet not the sun that comes with it. The sand of this beach comes from Chuncheon Stream and shells that have been naturally eroded by the wind over time. Swimming seems to be an immensely popular activity with the locals there, but we decided to just stroll along the beach and people-watch instead of taking a dip as I would rather enter the waters of a secluded white sand beach in a tropical climate, far away from any tall buildings or city.

There’s a lot of cafes, street stalls and food shops around the Haeundae area for you to retreat to afterwards, so we settled for lunch at a small eatery just a two minute walk from the beach. BBQ-ed pork belly, a green onion pancake, finished off with honeycomb ice cream… which is THE best thing since sliced bread. You’ll never look at soft serve ice cream the same way again, because it’s not just soft serve, it’s heaven in a milky cup (or cone). You need to buy some Softree and take it along with you to Haeundae Beach!

Directions to Haeundae Beach: From Busan station, walk 172m straight & take bus 1003, get off at Haeundae Beach stop and walk 169m to Haeundae Beach.

• Gwangandaegyo Bridge (부산 광안대교) & City Night Lights •

It is the largest bridge over the ocean in Korea, and a significant landmark in Busan. It’s pretty cool to be driving on in the day time.

But you should see it with a panoramic view from Geumjeongsan Mountain (금정산). Wow. I wish my loved ones were there to witness it with me. Equipped with artistic light, the bridge showcases splendid light that changes every day and every season. The nickname for the bridge is “diamond bridge” for the way it sparkles when the sun goes down! Busan lights up like a christmas tree in the evening, sporting neon signage and dazzling colorful light displays in every corner of the city. It’s nothing like I’ve seen before! There’s a daily tour bus that takes you around to the best spots in town to look at the lights, but we decided to hire a taxi to go straight up the mountain instead, so we could enjoy this view in privacy!

Directions: Take a cab to Geumjeongsan Mountain. Forget about public transport for this one, finding your way around in the dark at an isolated place will not be easy.

• Galbi / Kalbi Beef •

Although not exclusive to Busan, it was here that I tried one of the most delicious beef I’ve ever had – galbi beef, grilled over charcoal – absolutely divine!!!

It was melt in your mouth, puts a happy smile on your face and leaves you thinking about it for months afterwards kinda good. All kinds of wonderful. I’m salivating just thinking about it.. Probably my number one favorite thing about going to Korea was all the delicious Korean BBQ meats I had. Pork belly and beef…. I could have that everyday, coupled with my cold noodles!

With that, concludes my short and sweet time in Busan – a laid back and breezy start to our trip, and my first taste of what the slow life would be like if I were to live in South Korea as a local. I felt like it gave me a pretty accurate look into the life of the average person who didn’t live in Seoul, which is a lot more hectic than Busan for sure.

The landscape and environment is totally different between the two cities, and while both has its charms, Busan is more for the traveler who wants something out of the ordinary, someone who’s out to seek the cultural and quaint charms of a country that are hidden away in a coastal town. I’ll be continuing this travelogue with a Seoul edition soon, so more delicious Korea visuals wait for you then!

Elixir Juice – Delicious Cold Pressed Juices in Singapore!

I love me a big glass of fresh fruit juice in the morning, but these days, it’s not just about your regular blended fruit juice anymore.. it’s no secret that cold pressed juices have been the talk of the town, piquing people’s interest in the suggested health benefits of raw juices with living enzymes that are said to help you thrive, detox and heal!

Elixir Juice, a local homegrown brand sends over some of their best sellers and unique concoctions of cold pressed juices based on my given preferences of tangy and refreshing drinks. Promptly delivered to my doorstep in eco-friendly packaging, I’m extremely pleased to report that they were all rather delicious! Some more so than others, but on the whole, I’ll have to be frank and say that these were a lot tastier and palatable than other local cold pressed juice brands I’ve tried, perhaps due to their wide range of choices available which suited my liking.

Here’s some quick information on what all the cold pressed juice hype is about!

What Is Cold Pressed Juice?

The natural extract from raw fruits and vegetables is referred to as pressed juice. This requires a slow and careful process, using  juice extractors under hygienic conditions in accordance with the highest regulatory standards. Instead of spinning fruits and vegetables madly on a blade to separate flesh and juice via centrifugal force, cold pressed juice extracts the juice hydraulically, by “pressing” instead of cutting.
The result is that the maximum amount of juice is extracted from the fruits and vegetables, but enzymes and nutrients living in the fruits and vegetables remain protected. That means getting maximum benefits from a single cup of cold pressed juice. The end product is a juice with a high nutritional value with no artificial preservatives and sugar added. The benefits we stand to derive from this is enormous as this is a very convenient way of getting all the nutritional requirements of the body, leading to a healthy lifestyle. Cold pressed juices are widely considered to be the most nutritionally complete juice, containing 3 to 5 times more vitamins, minerals, and enzymes than juice extracted via traditional methods.

With over 32 different blends of cold pressed juices made from a combination of fruits and vegetables, Elixir Juice is your go-to for your daily pick-me-up. Don’t get used to the idea of this large a selection, it’s something you won’t easily find elsewhere.
They’ve got specific categories to cater to individual needs, such as “Weight Shifter” for the ladies, “Iron Man” for males and “Wit Sharpener” for the little ones! Instead of focusing primarily on “juice cleanses”, a diet fad that’s been all the rage recently which allows you only to consume cold pressed juices in replacement of your meals, Elixir Juice strives to introduce cold pressed juices into your everyday lifestyle for long term health benefits.

Let’s face it: the proposal of a several day juice cleanse sounds daunting and IS difficult for the average person. I have personally tried doing a 3-day cold pressed juice cleanse program before (twice actually, from two separate brands) and as much as I’d like to say I succeeded with great results.. let’s just say.. they didn’t end well. I couldn’t bring myself to not eat solid food at all for 3 whole whopping days, especially when I did not find most of the juices to be nice tasting in the slightest. I have no doubt in my mind that they were super healthy and good for my system, but I almost gagged after taking a sip or two, and finishing the entire bottle was out of the question. I guess a few were sort of okay-tasting, but it wasn’t my cup of juice. I failed the juice cleanse program by binge eating and giving it up halfway, which was kinda horrible, especially when the programs aren’t cheap. I’ve been put off juice cleanse programs ever since.

But if we turn the tables around, and you told me I could pick nice tasting juices that were wonderful not just for my well-being but to my taste buds as well, and that I wouldn’t have to force down 6 whole bottles in a day as meal replacements.. well then, Elixir Juice has got a formula that really works for me. They make healthy living and eating that much easier. I like variety, and having a say in when and how I drink it. I hate having to feel like I’m not committed to my health just because I can’t stand pure green juices. And as much as I like a good cup of juice, having to consume 6 whole bottles in less than 24 hours is just…. not my idea of fun. It’s my body and choice after all, shouldn’t the journey to better health be an enjoyable one? It ought to be a guilt-free process!

My bottles of Elixir Juices as seen:

Defensive Potion-  Defensive portion is a smooth blend of Pineapple, Mango, Orange, Lime and strawberries. It is rich in Vitamins A, C, E and K, combining the benefits of lime which is known to combat aging and astragalin, fisetin, gallic acid and methylgallat which are anti-oxidants that fight against colon and breast cancer. By far my favorite juice from the lot, and something delicious enough for me to want to order in a restaurant as a smoothie. I love it!!! It’s very tangy, and the main flavors I picked up from this was mango, orange and lime. I could have a whole bottle of this every day!

Power Glow – A blend of Apple, Raw Beetroot, carrot and Celery, rich in Vitamin A and lots of antioxidants that are sure to protect your skin from harsh ultra violet rays that damages the skin. It also prevents dryness, acne and uneven tone of the skin. I can’t stand celery, so this wouldn’t be my top pick… having said that, I’d still take this over a fully green juice any day, though.

Breakfast Fruit Buffet – Packed with the rich benefits of Blueberries, Oranges, Lime and Banana. Blueberries are known to contain more antioxidants than any other fresh fruits. This neutralizes free radicals which are introduced into the body through exposure to smoke, toxins and pesticides, thereby boosting the immune system. With a strong banana taste, I can tell why they call this the breakfast buffet! Pleasant and easy to drink, no problem.

100% Pure Pomegranate Juice - Many studies show that the pomegranate is one of the most powerful, nutrient dense foods for overall good health. It aids in: slowing aging, immune system supporting, the flow of blood circulation, bone health, protecting and your skin and cells regeneration. Can you believe I’ve never tried pomegranate juice prior to this bottle? It’s sweet and has a slight berry-like flavor, which will appeal to most people.

Since you can keep these cold pressed juices in the fridge for up to 72 hours, you can enjoy sharing the goodness with your family or have two juices a day to yourself to maximize the effects!

Sometimes I use a nice cold juice to supplement meals when I’m in a rush, feeling bloated, not that hungry or whenever I need a pick-me-up to give me a boost of energy. Pop it into my bag before I leave the house, and drink on the go! It’s also a great snack to replace the sweet cravings I have for cakes, biscuits and other artificially sugared food items.

I’m not the most adventurous person when it comes to trying new vegetables or fruits, I stick to my favorites – strawberries, mangoes, oranges, coconuts, grapes and apples. Anything else beyond that list is considered mildly foreign to me, and my usual intake definitely doesn’t meet the recommended nutritional requirements. Elixir Juice can fix that problem with a bottle or two a day, and introduce various kinds of fruits and veggies I wouldn’t normally eat, resulting in a much more balanced diet.

Just for my readers, you can start on your cold pressed journey with the code “healthyliving” - with every pack of 6 juices ordered, you get 1 juice for free! I promise that you will never look at the artificial bottled or canned stuff the same way ever again, because cold pressed juices honestly look, taste and feel so much better.

The Eyebrow Chronicles with Browhaus

If there’s one thing I’ve always struggled with for many years apart from my obviously fluctuating weight, it’s my god damn eyebrows.

Looking at this hilariously embarrassing timeline of myself from 2008 till 2012.. all I can say is.. double you tee eff? WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY EYEBROWS? The answer: everything. It all begins, and ends with one problem: I don’t have enough brow hair.

I have an extremely pitiful amount of hair that I call my “natural eyebrow”, but I seem to have a bountiful abundance of leg, upper lip and armpit hair. Whoever said life wasn’t fair, wasn’t kidding. My brows used to be downward sloping when I was a kid, and this was before Korean eyebrows were the in thing. So I had funny looking puppy dog eyes, up until I was about 13, when I discovered the eyebrow pencil and started plucking them, shaping them to have a higher arch, in an effort to make them more normal looking.

Ever since then, it’s been a war with them brows. Some battles I won, but mostly, I’m sad to say I’ve lost… I’ve suffered from all sorts of brow problems: too thin, too thick, too light, too dark, too straight, too arched, too long and too short. I swear, there isn’t a type of eyebrow shape I haven’t had on my face. It’s not until recent years that I’ve discovered Browhaus, and in no way am I exaggerating when I say… life hasn’t been the same since.

Browhaus is your one-stop brow and lash grooming salon, built for the image-conscious urbanite who demands not just function, but function and style.

I was at their Wheelock Place outlet to get my Brow Resurrection done (again)!

This was me in late June with my brows drawn, lying on a chair waiting for my makeover. My brows don’t look too bad here huh? That’s because I’ve already got a base template from my previous Brow Resurrection, which makes drawing a nice shape much easier! I only did the Brow Resurrection (Natural) once and didn’t go back for regular touch ups, so my brows faded considerably after a year.

Not that it completely disappeared of course, much of it was still intact, but I’m a lazy person who’s perpetually in a hurry before she leaves the house, so I would prefer if I only needed to draw it minimally! Imagine the time I save everyday by not doing my brows. Fact: I can go from bare-faced to all made up in under 10 minutes thanks to not having to fuss over my brows, which usually took up the bulk of my time spent on my make up routine before Brow Resurrection entered my life!

My brow make up is cleaned off, then thoroughly groomed before my specialist, Wayne, draws some temporary brows in the shape that I request for, so I know what they’ll look like before it’s inked on! I asked for a thicker and straighter look this time, and she gladly complied. When I asked her if she thought I would suit thicker brows, she confidently told me “yes”, which made me happy – pretty much everyone else I asked said I shouldn’t go any thicker as it would be too unnatural.

My friends thought a change to my eyebrow shape was unnecessary. But I wanted thicker, straighter brows whether other people ultimately agreed with me or not! Wayne assured me that I’d love the outcome and that I could pull it off given that my face shape is towards the long side.  This gave me a lot of confidence in her and put my mind at ease while she worked. She expertly draws them into my desired shape, then made adjustments to it until I was absolutely satisfied with how it looked on me. Once we got the perfect shape, numbing cream was applied and left to take effect for about 15 minutes.

Browhaus uses vegetable dye that is safe for even sensitive skin to make small & precise incisions, stroke by stroke, onto your skin to replicate the look of real hair.

The effect is semi-permanent, lasting for 1-2 years, depending on how you take care of it, how much make up remover is frequently used on that area, whether you go for regular touch ups, etc. It is a different method from the traditional “eyebrow embroidery” technique and doesn’t leave a weird reddish or greenish undertone when it fades. Once the numbing cream kicks in, the procedure takes only around 35 minutes to complete. You can feel the little cuts being made on your skin throughout the process, but they don’t hurt much. You’ll only feel a bearable stinging sensation every now and then. Overall, the pain factor for this was relatively low and I would say a brazilian wax would probably hurt a whole lot more!

Before I knew it, the treatment was over and my brows had new life breathed into them!

This is straight after having them done – with no down time at all, I was happily parading my new brows around town after my treatment!

There will be a bit of redness and swelling, which is normal and not even that obvious. If you stare hard at my picture, you may notice a small halo around my brows due to the swelling, but other than that they were already looking perfect! I think Wayne did a fantastic job and I highly recommend her services!

Not only is she utterly professional, she’s also kind, gentle and friendly which makes the experience that much more pleasant. I appreciated how she encouraged me to embrace a new eyebrow shape I was initially slightly apprehensive about no thanks to other people’s discouragement, but she helped me find the confidence I needed to pull off a new brow look. I heard she’s the most senior brow specialist at Wheelock Place and is highly popular with customers, so you’ll need to book her way in advance if you want a slot with her.

This is my third time doing Brow Resurrection with Browhaus, and it’s my favorite outcome thus far. I really couldn’t be more pleased! There’s no other place I trust more than Browhaus to give my brows new life, and I see myself returning throughout the years to come. They are always professional, accommodating and the results are impeccable.

Here’s what my newly resurrected brows look like:

They may be a little thick and bold, but I think they bring out my features this way. This is with almost no drawing at all, only to fill in small gaps that have lightened after scabbing (which will be fixed during my next touch up). Looking back on the collage of pictures at the start of this post… My brows have come a long way indeed.

In my opinion, the results from my Brow Resurrections are startlingly convincing. Nobody ever realizes it’s not real hair until I tell them. Freshly done brows can look a bit harsh, and they will scab and peel off after several days, so these pictures were taken a few weeks after they were done, when they look the most ideal.

Never under estimate what a drastic difference eyebrows make to your whole look!!! Please take my pictures for example! Having well shaped and groomed eyebrows is essential to looking presentable. To me, they’re as vital as having clean teeth, nice hair and clothes that have been ironed. If you’re sick and tired of having strange looking eyebrows that are difficult to deal with, you don’t have to put up with it a day longer. We’ve all got enough problems in our life to worry about, and I’m just infinitely glad that every single day is a good brow day for me now, and I’ve got Browhaus to thank for that!

“I must, I must, I must increase my bust!”

- One of my favorite lines from a book I used to love as a teen, called Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret by Judy Blume. This catchy line comes along with the physical action of sticking your elbows out and pulling them backwards, supposedly to “exercise” your boobs! I doubt it works. But it left a deep impression on my young and naive self.

So today we’re going to talk about breasts, and the different types of issues women face when dealing with them. Let’s start with my own story, and problems. As a pre-teen girl, I didn’t really have much of a chest… While going through puberty, it seemed that while I fared well in the height & weight department *cough*, I couldn’t say the chest department was up to speed. It seemed that I was a very tall and rather big-built girl with a relatively flat chest. Most of my shorter and more petite / skinnier friends back in primary school already had more well endowed chests than me, which puzzled and confused me, doing nothing for my self confidence. I thought I was going to stay an A cup forever, until I got into my late teens.. only then, much to my relief, did they start growing into a satisfactory size! One that was proportionate to my overall build.

It remained at a good B cup, all until I started gaining weight, then my boobs got, well…. to put it bluntly, huge. My entire body was huge, so naturally my boobs would’ve gotten huge too, right? Too big, in fact, that it genuinely bothered me. It was super heavy, as though I was carrying around watermelons on my chest. Like you wouldn’t believe. Running and lying face down on my front were considered painful activities. This was a side effect of weight gain, and definitely NOT something I personally found attractive.. It grew to a robust C cup, but luckily for me, ever since losing weight my boobs have now reduced to a B cup again, which is my preferred size. They no longer feel excessively heavy, and I really like them this way. Not too big, not too small. Ain’t got a problem with them anymore!

So at least, that was what I thought until I was enlightened about my current boob situation at Tokyo Bust Express.

Tokyo Bust Express is Singapore-based, but derives its names from Japanese methods of using proprietary technology, age-old techniques and the purest herbaceous extracts to boost your feminine charms and confidence – safely and naturally. They are currently the leading and most established bust enhancement centre with most outlets island-wide in Singapore.

I was at their Square 2, Novena outlet to find out what the fuss about – I was honestly curious to find out what they could do to help me boost my self confidence and body image! It’s not that I’m terribly dissatisfied with my boobs, but one should always strive for self-improvement, right? I’m getting older, gotta upkeep and maintain!!!! I’m no longer “underage-girl”.

During my first consultation with them, I was given a holistic overview of Tokyo Bust Express and the services they provide – 100% natural ingredients such as soy-infused treatments combined with advanced technology and traditional Japanese massage techniques. The products used contain organic soybeans extracts containing phyto-nutrients to stimulate female hormones and aid in optimal bust development. In other words, it’s non-invasive and all-natural.

I’ve heard about them prior to my visit from online reviews and friends who’ve personally tried their treatment before, and so it piqued my interest to give this a shot. What do I have to lose? Only a shapelier bust line to gain!

Knowing that they’ve worn a number of acclaimed awards ensures me that my boobs, are literally, in good hands. Not solely used for aesthetic appeal, Tokyo Bust Express also boosts circulation and helps in lymphatic drainage.

I was asked about my main concerns regarding my boobs, and I guess the first thing that came to mind was that I think it’s become rather oddly shaped over the years. No thanks to my fluctuating weight, my boobs have increased, decreased, increased and yet again decreased rapidly through the years.. they’ve been through a lot. As a result, they’re not as perky or as shapely as they used to be anymore. My upper cleavage is no longer as prominent – it seems like they hang lower on my chest as compared to before, and it’s not just due to gravity! I think it might’ve also be due to the fact that I used to hate wearing bras, for some odd reason. I could not go an hour without wearing a bra these days, but in the past, I would avoid wearing it for as long as possible – I found them uncomfortable and a hindrance, when they’re actually much needed support. Wearing good bras is SO important!!!!! What happened next was a kick in the gut. I kid you not, my therapist referred to a boob chart and classified mine was “abnormal”. Excuse me while I go dig a 2 meter deep hole in the dirt and lie in it for a thousand years now.

I was told, though, that there is hope for me. With regular treatments like the one I was about to receive, it will help me in achieving a more “normal”, attractive and healthy bust line again! My measurements were taken, and then I was whisked off for my first treatment.

All smiles sitting on the bed in the comfy treatment room, because I’m super excited to see what this could do for me!

The treatment was customized to suit my own needs, and it begins with a relaxing shoulder massage. The rest that follow have no visual imaging accompaniment (I’m not that hungry for traffic) but it took place in this order:

1. Firming Scrub
Removes dead skin cell around bust area, for better penetration of treatments and products

2. TT Push-Up Therapy using Bust Toning Essence:
Helps in toning and lifting of breasts
Prevents current condition from worsening
A bust-care treatment that aids in maintaining shape of breasts

3. Bust-Up Therapy:
Helps in blood circulation and lymphatic drainage for detoxifying purposes
Stimulate the mammary glands to enhance and firm the breast
Aids in preventing breast cancer

4. Bust Suction Therapy
To help shape up a rounder and fuller bust line by stimulating mammary glands
To re-position your breasts, reducing armpit fats between breasts and armpits

Maybe it speaks volumes of my childish nature, but I was giggling throughout the treatment, especially during the Bust Suction Therapy… it’s like nothing you’ve experienced before. Let’s just say I’m not looking forward to breast feeding in the future. While some parts of the treatment were mildly uncomfortable and strange, it was still bearable on the whole. The massaging part does hurt, but it’s over in a few minutes and because it actually helps in lymphatic drainage (detox for the bust), something every girl should take care of but end up neglecting. No pain no gain, that’s the first rule of aesthetic beauty! All in all, the treatment takes a little over an hour, and when it was done, I couldn’t wait to get up and stare at my bare chest in the mirror to try and spot the difference, hah!!

Was there an immediate visual difference? To my surprise (I’m a natural born skeptic)….

YES!! There really was. My boobs looked perkier (hehehe), more roundly shaped and there was a slight yet noticeable lifting effect. Do note that this is not a permanent result from one session, you will require to undergo more sessions in order to enjoy longer lasting effects. I didn’t necessarily notice an increase in size, which is fine, because that’s not what I’m after. For me, the “lifting” effect lasted a good couple of days.. and it did look nicer, honestly!

I was also given Tokyo Bust Express’ specially formulated Bust Essence and Intensive Bust Enhancement Firming Cream Serum to apply after showering in a massaging motion for daily home maintenance! I refuse to submit to sagging boobs in my mere 20′s!!!

Here with my specialist Elaine who made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. Be it for aesthetic or health reasons, Tokyo Bust Express is worth a try – after all, our womanly curves are definitive of our feminine nature and deserves us paying more attention to them!
