Recipe: Meatballs in Tomato Sauce & Cheesy Garlic Bread by Perfect Italiano

It’s nearing the end of the year again, which can only mean one thing for sure – everyone will be feasting on lots of indulgent food!

Let the pigging out begin. Every year, I make it a point to host elaborate and utterly gluttonous dinner parties for my friends and I, to celebrate getting through yet another tough year of life and get ourselves in the relaxed, holiday mood. Cooking food from the heart is one of the best and sincerest way to make someone happy. No one can be upset at you when you make them a meal of their dreams.

This festive season, one key ingredient I’ll be including in my dishes is my favorite Perfect Italiano cheese!

The difference between a normal chef and a great chef is careful execution and a wild imagination, and with that said, I like putting cheese on as many food dishes as I can think of! I’ve chosen to use Pizza Plus in today’s post because I adore how versatile this cheese is – it’s full bodied, yet light and textured to use in almost any dish that requires a topping of cheese.

You know what’s a dish I like eating but can hardly find good versions of when dining out?


Meatballs in Tomato Sauce


Pure, simple meatballs with moist, flavorful meat. Too many versions are too dry, tasting more like cardboad balls than meatballs. That’s why I’m going to share with you my own Meatballs in Tomato Sauce recipe, that your guests will praise you for at your next dinner party!

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 250g pork, minced
  • 250g beef, minced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 large white onion, minced
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 pinches of salt
  • 200g breadcrumbs
  • chopped fresh English parsley
  • bunch of halved cherry tomatoes
  • a bottle of your favorite tomato pasta sauce
  • black pepper to taste
  • additional seasoning such as paprika, herbs like thyme, etc optional to your preferences
  • a handful of Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus Grated Cheese


  1. Combine all ingredients in a large bowl and mix well
  2. Roll meat mixture into manageable sized balls
  3. If mixture doesn’t hold shape well enough, add more breadcrumbs to stiffen it
  4. Heat up a pan with 3cm deep oil, and shallow fry on each side for 2 minutes or until just cooked with pink insides
  5. Prepare a plate with paper towels to drain excess oil off meatballs with after removing them from frying pan
  6. Once all meatballs are cooked, pour the oil into a glass bowl before discarding it
  7. Using the same pan, stir fry the cherry tomatoes until semi-cooked, then pour in tomato pasta sauce
  8. After the tomato sauce is hot, arrange cooked meatballs into the pan
  9. Top off with your desired amount of Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus cheese, more black pepper and parsley for garnishing
  10. Serve in frying pan for extra rustic style points

What you’re looking at is deliciously moist meatballs with a simple but comforting flavor that is elevated by the tangy tomato sauce and stretchy cheese! Don’t the bright red and green colors remind you that Christmas is creeping up on us already?

You’d want to make sure your meatballs are not too salty, because the tomato sauce and cheese contains additional salt that will contribute to the overall saltiness. You can also substitute the minced pork for minced chicken if preferred.

Just look at that tantalizing cheese calling out for help! It needs you to put it in your mouth. Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus is made up of three cheeses – Mozzarella, for lending that stretchy bite, and Parmesan and Cheddar for a fuller flavor.

Cheesy Garlic Bread


  • your favorite loaf of freshly baked bread, sliced
  • many cloves of minced garlic
  • semi-melted butter
  • chopped fresh English parsley
  • a handful of Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus Grated Cheese


  1. Generously butter your sliced bread
  2. Spread minced garlic over the bread
  3. Top off with parsley, and a generous amount of Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus Cheese
  4. Bake in an oven or toaster at the highest setting for 3-5 minutes until edges of the bread are golden brown

Crisp around the edges, soft, buttery and cheesy in the center – nothing but garlic bread perfection!!

Don’t be a miser when buttering your bread – despite the copious amount of butter looking like it’s going to give you a heart attack, it’s actually what awesome garlic bread is made of. You’ll want to use freshly minced garlic instead of the dried stuff, because the flavor will be so much better. You’ll probably also want to brush your teeth really thoroughly after this meal before you talk to anyone up close. At least you’ll know you’re safe from vampires for the night.

These two dishes are a match made in heaven. One bite will have you singing “Hallelujah” in your head!

If you thought tomato meatballs were paired best with pasta, you are wrong. You have lived your life in darkness until this very moment. Let me educate you: they are literally AMAZEBALLS with garlic bread!

Recipe: Zucchini Slice and Parmesan Crisp by Perfect Italiano

If there’s one ingredient I never get bored of experimenting with, it’s good ol’ glorious cheese. Cheese is pretty much top on the list of my favorite things in the world.

There’s just so many things you could do with it – grill, bake, deep fry, turn it into a sauce or simply have it on its own. The brand that’s been making a constant appearance in my fridge for what’s coming to almost 2 years now is Perfect Italiano. The signature bright green bags of cheese can be found in my kitchen at any given point in time! Perfect Italiano is a cooking cheese brand that adds simple Italian flair to everyday family meals. It is simple and easy to use, and easy to use – ensuring that homemade meals are not complex or time consuming.

My favorite consistency of cheese is the ooey gooey melted type which can be found in pizzas and baked dishes, and that’s why the next Perfect Italiano cheese recipe I’m going to bring you is yet another baked till perfectly golden brown creation!


Zucchini Slice

As much as I love my baked pastas, some days I feel like having something lighter, so this zucchini slice recipe is what I’d turn to when I want something lower in carbs than pasta that still has that satisfying bite and texture!


  • 5 eggs
  • 120g self raising flour
  • 350g of zucchini
  • 1 large onion
  • 200g bacon or skinless chicken
  • 220g of Perfect Italiano Perfect bakes cheese
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil


  1. Preheat your oven to 180 degrees, and grease a 9″ inch pan, or preferably, a baking dish
  2. Break the eggs into a large mixing bowl, and gently combine egg whites & yolks together
  3. Add self raising flour and mix to a smooth consistency
  4. Grate the zucchhini, finely chop the onion, and dice the bacon. If you are using chicken, dice the chicken and cook it first.
  5. Add zucchini, onions, bacon / chicken, Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes cheese and oil into the large mixing bowl
  6. If you are using chicken, then add half a teaspoon of salt to the mixing bowl
  7. Mix everything together until the batter is uniform
  8. Bake in the oven for about 30 minutes
  9. To achieve a golden brown crust, turn the temperature up to 220 degrees for the last 5 minutes
  10. Let cool for 8 minutes before serving so that the zucchini slice may stiffen up to reasonably stable consistency for easier handling

I love using avocado and zucchini in my cooking because of how delicious and good they are for you!

Their creamy and fleshy meat lends a very versatile use to dishes, and in this case, the zucchini makes for a very smooth and creamy quiche. If you’d like to go for a halal friendly or healthier option, feel free to use diced chicken instead of bacon. I’m a bacon-everything kinda girl, so please don’t be alarmed at how often bacon appears in the recipes I post.

My favorite part of this dish is undoubtedly the golden brown cheesy crust, made with Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes.

I’m sure it’s common knowledge by now that cheesy crust just makes anything baked about a hundred times more delicious.
I’d serve this zucchini slice as a breakfast item (made the day before, of course) or as an afternoon snack / side dish! Even if you don’t normally fancy leafy vegetables, this zucchini slice will take you by surprise because of how creamy it tastes.

You’re going to love this next recipe because there’s only one ingredient used and it is oh so tasty!


Parmesan Cheese Crisps


  • Perfect Italiano Parmesan Cheese


  1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees
  2. Lay baking paper on the baking tray
  3. Place about circular domes of Perfect Italiano Parmesan Cheese that are approximately 6cm in diameter
  4. Bake for 4-5 minutes, being careful not to let it burn as it will make the crisp taste bitter

How great are these?!

You know those cheese crisps you find in fine dining restaurants? Well who knew they were this simple to make? They can be done in a mere few minutes and in my opinion, it tastes better than any cheese snacks I’ve bought in supermarkets before.
They turn out crispy on the edges, slightly chewy in the middle and packed with a bold flavor. They work so well to jazz up your soups, salads, pastas, or just eat them the way I do – on its own! I could finish up 8 crisps in one sitting! No other ingredients or preparation steps needed.

Simply lay Perfect Bakes Parmesan cheese then bake until golden brown, and enjoy. If you normally find parmesan cheese a little too strong for your liking, don’t worry, the taste and aroma is tamed the moment it’s baked. Just pure crispy cheesy goodness here! The time has come yet again for me to explore the world of cooking with Perfect Italiano cheese and sharing with you the results of my culinary adventures!

Using Perfect Italiano’s cheese as the main ingredient, I’ve whipped up and shared the recipes for: Mac & Cheese and Deli Sandwich, Alfredo Pasta Bake and Parmesan Apple Crumble, & Tortilla Pizza and French Onion Soup.

That’s a total of 6 different dishes that feature various usage of their range of cheeses, and today, let’s add 2 more to the list! Today’s recipes were specifically thought up to be very inexpensive, quick, and delicious to make. Anyone, even without prior cooking experience, can attempt these! Both recipes should take under 10 minutes for prep AND cooking time. Not forgetting they are vegetarian-friendly as well!

Cheesy Eggy Mee Goreng

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • A packet of your favorite instant Mee Goreng
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • Japanese seasoning (consisting of seaweed & sesame mainly)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 2 handfuls of Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes cheese


  1. Prepare your Mee Goreng according to the packet instructions. I like to have my noodles very firm with lots of bite. Soggy noodles are just meh. Plate your noodles.
  2. Whip up 2 eggs in a bowl with a tablespoon of milk, then stir in 2 moderate handfuls of Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes cheese.
  3. Pour into frying pan and cook the scrambled eggs over medium heat with some butter or oil, removing them from the heat while they’re still quite runny. Gently place on top of noodles.
  4. Garnish with Japanese seasoning and a good squeeze of ketchup all over your noodles.

I don’t usually eat instant noodles. I find the taste boring and not worthy of my calories. I’d rather eat bread with spread. But this, I would gladly wolf down again and again! The cheesy runny egg addition absolutely turns your average boring instant Mee Goreng into something much more special.

A plate of instant Mee Goreng with a fried egg on top just isn’t quite the same thing. Isn’t it awesome how some unexciting food we’re totally familiar with can be completely re-invented with just some cheeses?

It kinda reminds me of okonomiyaki, which is Japanese egg-wrapped fried noodles! You can do so much more to this, or leave it as it is. Make it even sexier by adding some meat (hot dogs perhaps, to keep to the “instant” theme?), but I chose to keep it simple and do-able under 5 minutes, because this is my idea of a yummy quick-fix.

The tart and sweet ketchup is necessary to balance out the flavors. Despite not being a baked dish, I chose Perfect Bakes for this as it contains a mix of three different cheeses for a more well-rounded taste!


Cheesy Chocolate Banana Fritters


  • Bananas (as few or as many as you’d like)
  • Corn starch
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • Egg
  • Some milk
  • Maple syrup
  • Shaved chocolate
  • Perfect Italiano Mozzarella Cheese
  • Oil for deep frying


  1. Peel and cut bananas into shorter lengths if using the longer variety.
  2. Dip bananas in milk, then coat with corn starch.
  3. Crack and mix an egg in a bowl. Dip corn starch coated bananas into egg wash.
  4. Coat the bananas in panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Deep fry the bananas in hot oil until golden brown which takes about 15 seconds.
  6. Sprinkle on shaved chocolate and Perfect Italiano Mozzarella Cheese, and finish off with a generous drizzle of maple syrup!

These are inspired from a local treat called Goreng Pisangs! But instead of being simply fried in a thick batter as most stalls would sell them, I chose to give it a crispy but thin coating instead, letting the natural flavors of the juicy and sweet banana come through more. The shredded Mozzarella Cheese and shaved dark chocolate pieces complement the banana fritter perfectly and it does NOT taste the same without the cheese. I’ve tried and tested this theory.

The cheese adds a certain savory taste that enhances the flavor and because mozzarella is so mild, it’s not strange at all! Finally, we drizzle maple syrup all over this creation because… maple syrup over anything is a fantastic idea. ;)

I hope you give these unorthodox fusion recipes a try!

They’re extremely simple and there’s very little to wash up afterwards because there are only a few steps to take. I wanted to show you guys that cheese doesn’t have to be used for only Western dishes, but that it can be easily incorporated into Asian food. We’re lucky to live in Singapore where good food is easily available and we can enjoy all sorts of cuisines from around the world, so we should make full use of this global exposure to our advantage!

Recipe: Tortilla Pizza and French Onion Soup by Perfect Italiano!

Cheese is always a staple in my fridge.

Every single time I go grocery shopping, I’d pick up a few packets of cheese from Perfect Italiano. I go through cheese quicker than I’d like to admit. One of my absolute favorite snack is a grilled cheese sandwich which I love that I can easily whip up in a mere few minutes. I tend to stay up late playing video games, so I’m always hungry in the middle of the night and for some reason my midnight cravings are always the same things: nasi lemak and melted cheese. YUM.

I’m always thinking of new dishes I can cook with the end results boasting beautifully melted cheese. I’d like to share two of my newest cheese food experiments with you, for you to attempt at home as well! I hope you guys will love these dishes as much as I do. I’ve been making them so often ever since!

Tortilla Pizza

Ingredients (most are optional & amount up to your preference):

  • Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus
  • tortilla wraps
  • tomato paste
  • halved cherry tomatoes
  • baby spinach leaves
  • basil leaves
  • parma ham / bacon / your choice of meat
  • truffle oil
  • sliced portobello mushrooms
  • olive paste
  • eggs


  1. Preheat oven or toaster to 180 degrees.
  2. Lay tortilla pieces on baking tray. Spread tomato paste all over the tortilla wraps with the back of a spoon.
  3. Sprinkle generously with Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus on top of tomato paste. When you think you’ve got enough, sprinkle on some more! Is there such a thing as too much cheese?
  4. Arrange desired amount of ingredients onto your pizza.
  5. If you’d like to include an egg on your pizza, make a little well in the middle then crack the egg into it.
  6. I made two different varations, one with cherry tomatoes + spinach + basil + parma ham + mushrooms, and the other one with cherry tomatoes + olive paste + basil + mushrooms + egg + truffle oil!
  7. Pop into the oven to bake for 6-8 ingredients, or until your cheese is golden brown and the egg cooked through!
  8. If using parma ham, do not arrange on pizza to bake in oven, simply place shredded parma ham on pizza separately afterwards.

The end result is an awesome thin crust pizza that takes only 15 minutes to make, from start to finish!

I love this recipe because it’s so flexible and convenient. Tortilla wraps make surprisingly good pizza bases. The sides get very crispy and the middle part is thin and soft, just the way I like it. As long as you’ve got your tortilla wrap, tomato paste and Pizza Plus cheese, the rest of the ingredients are completely optional and up to your own creativity and preferences.

I’m having a dinner gathering at my place this weekend and I plan to make this for them because everyone loves pizza, and I can easily make different variations of this dish so everyone will have a pizza they’ll love! I can prep the pizzas in advance before they arrive, and when they’re here, I’ll pop it into the oven to bake and they can have a fresh pizza right from my oven! Each tortilla pizza is personal-sized and the amount is just nice for a satisfying meal. Pizzas tend to be priced quite heftily when purchased outside, so whenever I have a pizza craving, I turn to this recipe instead!


I love ordering this next dish in restaurants, so I attempted a home made version and I’m pleasantly surprised by how well it turned out!

French Onion Soup

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • five medium white onions, chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 6 cups of beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • sliced buttered baguette
  • 1/4 cup cooking wine
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Perfect Italiano Mozzarella
  • Perfect Italiano Parmesan


  1. Preheat oven / toaster to 200 degrees.
  2. Melt the butter over a deep saucepan, then add chopped onions and garlic to the pan and cook over medium heat.
  3. Add sugar, and caramelize the onions until soft and brown in color, which can take up to 25 minutes.
  4. In the meantime, toast & butter the baguette, then top off with Perfect Italiano Mozzarella and Perfect Italiano Parmesan.
  5. To the saucepan, add your bay leaves, dried thyme, wine, flour, and stir vigorously.
  6. Add your 6 cups of beef broth, then once the soup comes to a simmer, turn off the heat.
  7. Do a taste test and add more water or beef broth as desired to dilute or intensify the taste.
  8. Ladle your onion soup into oven-safe bowls.
  9. Top off with baguette cheese slices, sprinkle more Perfect Italiano cheese on, then bake for 5 minutes or until cheese is golden brown.

This french onion soup makes for an uncommon and hearty side dish / starter. It’s quite rare to come across this dish being served in Singapore, which was why I just had to attempt it myself. The beef broth gives it a nice deep flavor while the caramelized onions lend a subtle sweetness, finished off with some heat from the wine,& the cheesy baguette slice… Bon Appétit!

Festive cooking with Perfect Italiano

This festive period is my favorite time of the year, so I’m not complaining. Who could fault delicious feasts, gifts exchanging, and merry-making? Even if you’re not religious (like myself) this season is for all to indulge in a bit of year-end fun! My idea of a Christmas party is cooking up a storm at home.

I’ve been hosting Christmas parties at my place for a couple of years now, and this year will be no exception! I love nothing more than filling up my loved ones’ tummies with lovingly made homecooked food as we gather around the table, clink our glasses together and laugh heartily. I may have to get down and dirty in the kitchen for awhile, but seeing their appreciative smiles makes it all worth it. I’m glad I came across these quick & easy festive menu by Perfect Italiano recently, they prove that cooking doesn’t have to be needlessly tedious or complicated when you have the right recipe and ingredients!

I’ve taken inspiration from two of their festive recipes to recreate these delicious dishes in the comfort of my own home, and I’ve provided my reworked recipes below!

Alfredo Pasta Bake (view the original recipe from Perfect Italiano here)

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • 400g fusilli pasta
  • 200g sliced chicken filet / breast
  • 100g broccoli, chopped
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 medium onion, minced
  • 200g sliced mushrooms (your favorite type, I used a mixture of portobello, white & brown button)
  • 200ml cooking cream
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • half a cube of chicken stock
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • lots and lots of Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes


  1. Boil the pasta with a pinch of salt and a drip of olive oil until 95% cooked. Texture should be slightly undercooked or very al dente, because further cooking will be done in the oven later on. Rinse with cold water, toss with a tablespoon of olive oil and set aside.
  2. Stir fry the onions, garlic in a tablespoon of olive oil under onions are tender. Add broccoli, chicken meat and mushrooms and cook for 3 minutes over high heat.
  3. Add the cooking cream and half a cube of chicken stock and cook on low heat until stock has dissolved completely.
  4. Turn off heat, stir in cooked fusilli pasta, do a taste test (add salt/pepper where desired) and spoon into baking dishes. Take note that the cheese will provide saltiness as well.
  5. Top off with a generous amount of Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes, sprinkle with paprika for good color, then bake at 200 degrees in a preheated oven for 5-8 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.

The end result is a deliciously creamy and cheesy pasta dish that I could eat over and over again! The creaminess is light enough without being too overwhelming so it will appeal to even non-fans of creamy pastas, and I’ve chosen to subtitute peas with broccoli and ham with chicken pieces from the original recipe because I prefer this combination of ingredients better.

I also find that adding the stock cube to the cream gives more depth to the flavor. It’s a fuss-free crowd pleaser with ingredients that most people eat and aren’t too pricey, exactly what I want to realistically achieve when I’m cooking for large groups!

Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes is my preferred choice of cheese to use when I’m baking a savory dish – just look at the way it melted and that gorgeous color and texture! I can simply pre-cook the pasta, sprinkle the cheese on, wait for my guests’ arrival and in less than 10 minutes they’ll have a mouthwatering cheesy meal straight out of my oven. Total prep & cooking time less than 40 minutes!


…And if you thought cheeses could only be used in savory dishes and are therefore one-dimensional, you’re about to be very surprised, like I was when I tried out this innovative Parmesan Apple Crumble!

Ingredients (serves 8):

(for crumble)

  • 200g softened salted butter
  • 175g white sugar
  • 300g plain or all purpose flour
  • 100g Perfect Italiano Parmesan
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

(for filling)

  • 500g red apples, skinned and sliced
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon


  1. Place flour, sugar and Perfect Italian Parmesan in a large bowl and mix well.
  2. Add softened butter & vanilla extract then combine everything together until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
  3. Moving onto the filling, place sliced apples in a bowl and sprinkle on the nutmeg and cinnamon. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Spoon the apple filling evenly onto a baking then, then cover entirely with breadcrumbs topping and sprinkle more Perfect Italiano Parmesan on top.
  5. Bake at 180 degrees for 30 minutes in a preheated oven, or until crumble is golden brown.
  6. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The end result blew me away!

I could not taste any distinct cheese or Parmesan in my apple crumble, but it had a slight savory touch which I’ve not had in other apple crumbles before. I’ve changed this recipe from the original on their website by reducing the amount of cinnamon, nutmeg and sugar quite a bit to suit my personal taste.

Hence, if you attempt this recipe, do not be alarmed if your apple filling does not look as brown as mine!

Scoop out a portion and top off with vanilla ice cream for instant satisfaction. Go the extra mile by sprinkling biscuit / cookie crumbs on top and I even added popcorn bits to mine! Sure to win over anyone with a sweet tooth, and it tastes just like Christmas. This is a dessert that is uncommonly found outside, and I’m glad I found this recipe because I never realized how incredibly easy and inexpensive it was for me to replicate this myself at home.

You’ll never look at store bought apple crumble the same way again, because this was moist and full of flavor and not dry like some versions found outside! I think the Perfect Italiano Parmesan added a boost of flavor to the crumble, which is what makes is taste so special.
