Halloween Horrors at Universal Studios Singapore

I’ve never really celebrated Halloween properly. (Not that there’s anything to “celebrate” per se)

I’ve always wanted to dress up in a cool (and by cool I mean a non-slutty, legitimate) Halloween costume and go trick or treating with my friends. Having said that, I don’t live in America, so if I wound up knocking on peoples doors in a scary costume asking for candy, Singaporeans would probably call the police on my ass. So the next best way to have fun during Halloween… is scaring the pants off myself at Universal Studios Singapore’s Halloween Horror Nights 2!!! Or if you’re a girl in crisis you can go to Zouk / *insert other random nightclub here* baring your midriff and cleavage taking pictures with random horny men.

Thank you Universal Studios Singapore (USS) and Resorts World Sentosa for the invites! I’ve never experienced anything like that night before. I don’t think I have screamed that much in a single evening. It was like doing extreme cardio for 15 minutes straight every time I enter a haunted house!!!

Halloween Horrors at USS runs from 8pm-1am on select weekends during Halloween month and turns the normal day theme park into a freaky haunted house maze and spooky characters galore at night. We went on the very first night the event opened and boy was it crowded like crazy!!! Thousands of people squeezing like sardines just to get into USS. We managed to skip all lines however, thank goodness.

Upon entering the theme park, you’ll realize how much effort has gone into making this event a special one.

They hired hundreds of dedicated scare actors running around the park waiting to creep up on you to give you a fright, there’s loud creepy music playing constantly + convincing props and set ups everywhere… the mood was VERY spooky indeed.

Mother of god.

I mean come on. Make up alone must’ve taken all day!!! I love the attention to detail Universal Studios always delivers.

The highlight of Halloween Horrors is three themed 1) Haunted Houses – Insanitarium (mental hospital)

2) Death Alley (Chinese themed, think creepy old grandmother during 7th month) and 3) Dungeon of Damnation (my favorite! I think this is just a random mix of weird stuff. My personal favorite! Not for the claustrophobic)

No photography is allowed inside the haunted houses so I couldn’t take pictures to show you guys but the special effects were crazily impressive and realistic. I especially liked the room full of fake maggots that we all had to step on hahaha. The most freaky part for me was being alone with Sam in a room that had strobe lights constantly flashing off. Have you ever seen a horror movie whereby the lights flickered on and off in a pitch black room, and every time the light came on, the ghost was nearer to you?

Yep. That happened to me. Except this was in real life and really CONVINCING actors reaching out to grab me and I think I actually almost cried LOLOL. I held onto Sam, closed my eyes shut and wouldn’t budge… he literally had to drag me along. I wouldn’t move unless I had Nicholas on my left, and Sam on my right. I was clutching onto them EVERY step of the way. Imma girl!!! I can be one!!!!!1111

If you think you might suffer from a heart attack from the frights, don’t worry, there’s USS staff stationed every few meters to make sure everything happens in the name of good natured fun, no violence or injury will be involved. If you also think that you won’t be scared, YOU WILL BE. People jumping out at you from every damn corner!!!

Apart from the haunted houses and scare actors, some of the rides are open as well! Most of the roller coasters, mainly.

Everyone had spooky make up on! Every. Single. Person.

Ok maybe except the security guards. See those “blood packs”? They’re packets of passionfruit juice apparently! Cute idea.

I can’t figure out if this is a mask or not!!!! It looks so real! And their eyes… they even went out of their way to buy and put on funky colored contacts. Kudos to the production team.

No idea what this thing is but it tried to scare me hence the stupid expression on my face…..

I can’t imagine the life of people who have to wear the ultra heavy mascot costumes like this one, all night until 1am… In Singapore’s humid, warm weather + maddening crowds. I sincerely hope they’re paid a lot.

Sam & his dream wife. LOL

Me and my dream husband.

Just kidding…. Hahah. *coughs*

Little girls and old women are the scariest ghost characters.

Holy Shiz O______O

Tomorrow (28th October 2012) is the last day of Halloween Horrors at Universal Studios!!! Grab some friends and go and have some fun. Scream and live a little. Don’t commit the grave error of NOT purchasing the Express tickets, because trust me, waiting 2.5 hours in line like 90% of the other people in the park for a single attraction is not fun at all…

I enjoyed myself heapsss and I hope USS will have Christmas themed events in December!!! PLEASE!!!

Happy Halloween everyone! No matter if you’re slutting or spooking it up, have a spooktacular time. (Omg I’m so corny). Signing off with the only relatively cute mascot of the day – an oversized voodoo doll.

xoxo,
Jess

Snippets from a typical day in Perth

Whenever I tell people I’m going to Perth (again, I know, I was just there in February this year), they’d be all like…. “So soon? Back to Perth? What do you do there, anyway? It’s so slow paced…”

I admit, I have a slight obsession with this Australian city. And yeah, it IS slow paced, precisely why I like it so much.
Well, when I’m not watching Taylor Swift in concert, swimming with wild bottlenose dolphins, riding horses on the beach, taking overnight road trips and the likes…. I do the things normal people do, in Perth. They’re not especially glamorous or particularly exciting but I love it anyway, because its still so different from Singapore. Even something as mundane sounding as taking a walk in the park makes my day because the weather is so beautiful (when it doesn’t decide to hail).. and yes, the grass IS greener on this side. So is the sky, it is infinitely bluer. I guess it also depends on what you make of the situation. Whenever I’m in Perth, I’m spending time catching up with family and friends that I haven’t seen in a long time, so I have heaps of fun no matter where I’m at! So here’s what I do on Perth, on a normal day

My chosen get up of the day to frolick around Perth.

Uniquely Perth 1: Hello, overpriced Chinese food.
Your average Chinese restaurant in Perth is nowhere near as good as Singapore’s (Well duh. Sidetracking a bit, SWEE CHOON IS THE BEST SUPPER PLACE TO HAPPEN TO SINGAPORE) but we’ll make do.. Because what the heck, everyone gets sick of pastas, steaks and burgers after a while, and chinese food is a welcome change after having Western consecutively.
Apparently everyone else agrees because it was 11am on a Sunday and ALL the Chinese restaurants offering dim sum were crazy packed!!! We’re talking 20 people waiting in line outside a fullhouse restaurant kind of packed.
After driving around for 30 minutes, we finally found a quiet stretch of road with a restaurant that actually had seats.
Happy whenever I can have a meal with my mum. I really don’t see her enough, she’s always overseas.
A lot of people have commented recently that my mum and I look alike. I don’t really think so?! The only similarity is our long faces… her nose is wayy sharper than mine, and our eyes and lips shapes are totally different! I don’t exactly look like my Dad either (not pictured above). Makes me wonder if they picked me up from a rubbish bin like they used to joke about.
After dim sum, we head straight for desserts. Mum couldn’t stop raving about this place and insisted we come here!

Loving all the low rise buildings with individual, unique, family-owned stores. Simple things like that fascinate me… like how much land they have in Australia compared to Singapore. I’ve grown up living in one of the smallest countries in the whole world.
The place is called Theobroma Chocolate Lounge, if you guys would like to check it out.
Choosing your dessert is serious business…
Uniquely Perth 2: Indulge in sweet stuff. I love how almost every Western cafe and restaurant offers cakes and yummeh desserts in Perth, something we don’t have enough of in Singapore. Sure, we’ve got just a few niche cafes specializing in some chocolates and desserts mostly in obscure locations popping up recently… but we need to have em more readily available!!!

Raspberry cheesecake *_______* Super light and fluffy, not heavy at all, which was lovely. I noticed they always serve cheesecake with a generous dollop of whipped cream. I think it’s an Australian thing.
Holy cow…. melted warm Belgium milk chocolate drizzled over freshly made crepes, with 2 scoops of vanilla bean ice cream at the side. GET IN MY BELLY!!!
The chocolate was sooo rich and wonderful. Normally I’m not even that big a fan of milk chocolate (I’m a white choc kinda girl) You know with all the crazy amounts of mad food I stuff my face with in Perth, its a miracle I don’t put on weight whenever I go there. I weigh myself before I went, and after I came back, I wasn’t any bit heavier.. which was shocking. I was like :DDD when I saw the scale. I reckon it is coz of all the walking I do in Perth, which I don’t bother with in Singapore because the weather is too unpleasant. I come back with largely developed calf muscles lolol.
Uniquely Perth 3: Awesome number plates on vehicles!

I saw Jessie once. My friend said this Leonardo car plate would be worth up to 5k….. In Singapore you can only bid for nice sounding numbers like 8888.

You’ll see quite a lot of unique and vintage cars in Perth. Vehicles in Australia are so cheap and aplenty, you can get a second hand one for under 5k. And for the record they don’t have a 90k COE price tag that Singaporeans have to pay….

This one is so funnily shaped and its called A Minor!!!! Cute maximus. Actually now I’m wondering if its A Minor as in music or…. A minor as in underage?!
Uniquely Perth 4: Go grocery shopping in their larger than life supermarkets. Holy guacamole.
Look at that fully stocked deli. I have died and gone to housewife heaven. If I lived in Australia I would cook wayyy more often than I already do in Singapore. SO MUCH fresh produce in Australia….. back home the supermarket doesn’t even stock steaks…. or sometimes even minced pork…. or basic fruits and vegetables like lemons. -___-
*stabs self in the heart and dies* Nothing is more frustrating than finding a great recipe only to find you don’t have access to the damn delicious looking ingredients!!!
Back to the apartment for a change in outfit, Mum lent me her Abercrombie & Fitch track suit….. and somehow persuaded me to take a one hour brisk walk / jog around Burswood Park, 10 minutes from where we stay.

While jogging along the Swan River…. Not bad for a candid shot hey?!

Just my hair…. swaying in the wind. Went to touch up my fiery tresses at Shunji Matsuo a few days before my flight.

Good thing I did because it got me countless compliments from Perthians!!! Been 2 weeks and its still blood red. I still can’t understand how they got my hair so red without bleaching it! I’ve never been complimented this excessively by strangers and honestly having complete randoms suddenly come up to you, exclaiming excitedly “I LOVE your hair!! Where’d you get it done?” while almost rudely reaching out to touch your hair without permission is something I haven’t gotten used to yet. Cuz then I have to tell them I did it in Singapore and they look all disappointed like…. well at least you peeps in Singapore know who to go to for awesome hair coloring.

Uniquely Perth 5: Strolling along the Swan River and taking in its beauty.
It is ever blue and sparkling, and home to many different animals as well! A lot of people in Perth have told me they spot dolphins happily cruising this river frequently – I have yet to see one myself!! The Swan River runs along most of Perth’s landscape…. and it is a stunningggg backdrop for the city. I LOVE looking out for birds that live around it, such as these boastful black swans which the river was named after. They’re everywhere!!!

My favorite past time in car rides is to look out for unique birds flying around. Western Australia’s wildlife is truly astounding, even in the city and urbanized areas. Wildlife is definitely something I feel deprived of when I’m in Singapore. My hometown is a fantastic super rich super modern super safe super clean city with super infrastructure etc etc but its lacking these simple basic things that makes life extra beautiful. I love animals! Not in the “I love puppies / kittens / bunnies and all things cute” or dog lover kind of way… but I love WILD animals, being around them, learning about them in documentaries, observing them up close.. :)

In this small park alone I spotted black swans, swifts, silver gulls, great comorants, crows, magpies, three different types of ducks, willy wagtails, HUGE PELICANS, rainbow lorikeets… and others I don’t even know the names of. They filled the air with all sorts of animated happy chirping and calls, and it was fun to see bright colors zooming right above my head, barely inches away from me. Some even walked right up to my feet (hoping I’d feed them?)….. no fear man.

I have this new found fascination with birds since frequenting Australia because they have so much of them. Who knows, in the future I might be one of those weird bird watchers going to nature reserves with binoculars and a notebook lol.

While we’re on the topic…. check out this strange lady feeding all the birds.
We walked over in bemusement and said hi to her but she shot us a strange look, then turned her back and ignored us. I guess she prefers birds to humans by a long shot. You can’t see the rest of the birds outside of this shot but there must have been 100+ of them O_O
Sam being wonderfully childish and scaring them off after the lady got up and left. I love how he too thinks chasing after sea gulls is hilarious. I enjoy doing that way too much for a 20 year old… sea gulls are so annoying and funny at the same time hahahaha
This is what I mean when I say the Swan River really completes Perth’s beauty.
Uniquely Perth 6: King’s Park.

Panoramic views of the sky line you won’t get anywhere else, and velvety lush gardens!!! I’ve been here every single trip to Perth, and I will continue making it a point to visit in all my future trips. No trip to Perth is proper without checking out King’s Park, one of the largest inner city parks in the world… even bigger than Central Park in New York! I would have loved to have taken more pictures but it was just too damn cold and windy, I was literally shivering. I have more pictures in my archive taken years ago if you wanna have a look.

It is Spring in Australia now, wish means wildflowers galore!!!!!!!!!! Fields and gardens blossom with an assorted array of flora. If you take a few hours drive outta Perth you will be amazed at all the wildflowers you can see. These lavender bushes smelled like heaven…. or rather just like the body lotions and bath soaps I pay $20 a bottle for.

These Instagram (@shiberty) pictures were taken around the neighbourhood, with the purple one literally being right outside the door step.

Bel and I!!! Right before we went to have yummy pizzas at Little Caesars for dinz.
Very appreciative of friends who take time off their busy schedules to hang out with Sam and I and bring us around to cool new places when we came to Perth on a last minute decision :)

Bel, Conan, H, Robert, Gwen, Denise… you guys are all awesome ♥

Despite it being Spring, it felt A LOT like Winter.. hence we were dressed for the occasion. It’d be like 9 degrees in the day time. When the wind blew I felt like dying.

For some reason the whole week I was in Perth happened to be a freak week of unforgiving thunderstorms, hail (yes, muthafuckin hail!!! god was basically taking a cold poop on perth) when I was told the week Before AND After I visited, straight days of warm sunny perfect weather. Someone up there doesn’t like me.

At least that gave me a valid reason to wear my cute beanie. I hope the next time I visit it is during summer so I get to go to Ningaloo Reef… which I’ve been planning to for agesss.
So so so much of Western Australia I’ve yet to explore. I feel like I’ve barely uncovered the tip of the iceberg.

Universal Studios Singapore VIP Tour

Nicholas and I have been looking forward to this day for what seemed like months!

Thanks to the amazing people at Resorts World Sentosa, we had the opportunity to visit Universal Studios Singapore and experience a super fun-filled VIP tour of the park! If you don’t know what Universal Studios is (are you kidding me???) it is a special effects theme park where you can ride the movies produced / owned by Universal Pictures!!!

The last time I was at Universal Studios Singapore was a longgg time ago (2 whole years, for Sam & I’s first anniversary, we just turned 3 on August 15th) and the theme park had barely launched anything. In fact, at that point in time, they hadn’t even launched their official opening party yet!

I was too excited to check the theme park out and made the mistake of going a little too soon – I’d say at least 30% of the stuff were closed, so when I went back this time it felt like a new experience all over again.

Walking past the crazy masses of people lining up… feeling really glad I didn’t have to be one of them waiting under the scorching sun!!!

When I reached, these excited smiling faces were already all pumped up, waiting for me at the lounge room & ready to go!!!!
HELLO Melody & Nicholas! ^________^

They sure know how to make ya feel special on the VIP tour. Please excuse me for constantly using the word “VIP” in this post!!! The whole point of this post today is for me to cover what its like to experience USS the VIP way, through an exclusive guided tour. So no choice, it is what it is… a “VIP” tour. Bear with me k. :P

They have this comfy lounge specifically for the VIPs right outside the entrance of the park, where you can take a break and have some complimentary drinks any time of the day. Upon entering the lounge you’ll see hand prints and signatures of all the famous people who have been on this very same tour, who sat on the same chairs in this very lounge. I saw quite a few famous names but the few I remember are Donnie Yen and Paula Abdul. Give them a bit more time, they are going to add Jessica Loh / Shiberty to the wall lolol.

Then we were all armed with a special lanyard, sun screen (oh how thoughtful, extremely useful for ang mohs who turn lobster red under our sun), a USS VIP pin for keepsake and the map of the park for you to plan your activities with your group!

Our SUPER adorable, friendly, and professional guide of the day, Lilian!!!

She’s the one who will be bringing us around the parks, and taking care of our every need. I love her, she’s too cute, and she’s great at what she does. Fantastic service is hard to find in Singapore, so this was a real gem :)

Lilian had the rough itinerary for our day already planned nicely, now all we had to do was to tell her which attractions we fancy, and which ones we’re not so interested in! Of course, she’d already included all the major rides and mapped out the easiest route around the park to cover them all at one go.

Ready, set go!!!
Universal Studios Singapore here we come!!

We were so excited that day.
You have NO idea… we were all basically bouncing around in ecstasy and screaming at the top of our lungs whenever anything happened!

Take two steps into USS and you will be immediately transported into another world.

The elaborately decorated buildings, architecture and atmosphere is so convincing and welcoming. It brought back so many fond memories of Sam and I at Universal Studios Florida :)

Love this bunch of people! ♥

Kung Fu was going around taking pictures with people! Although I don’t think like the movies I think he’s super cute. So rotund and jolly hahaha

Lilian briefly explains each part of the seven differently themed zones as we walk past them… But I think we all know enough from the movies already!

Check out the flowers in Melody’s hair~~ I told her to dress up in a “bright florals, summery theme” and she gamely did – makes our pictures that much pretttier!! :D

Our first attraction of the day – the Water World show! I haven’t seen the movie this show is based on but Sam said it was a good one.

While everyone else walked into the normal seating area, we were led in a different direction… into this air-conditioned VIP room!!! Thank GOD. I would have definitely melted under the heat while the show went on for 30 minutes.

Nicholas being SUPER excited :P

From this room on top, we had an awesome bird’s eye view of the whole arena and got a good idea of everything that was going on!

A perk about being in the VIP room? There’s no chance of you getting randomly attacked by water guns. You can just sit on top and laugh as you see poor people get sprayed left, right and center.. Hahahah F this Guy’s life!!!!!

The last time I came to this show, I SPECIFICALLY sat at the back because they were spraying the people in front with water like crazy… but what do you know? This guy with a massive water hose / gun came up to me, a poor helpless innocent girl sitting at the very last row and DRENCHED my whole back with water!!! I think I screamed with horror. Omg! I didn’t know to laugh, or to be angry. I guess I was both amused and ticked off ahahah it was a minute relief under the scorching sun though. You will not believe the extreme heat at Universal Studios… can get heat stroke one. Remember to pack a fan, sunnies, even a hat, load on sun screen, and drink plenty of water!

While waiting for the show to start!

I was saying “wait one second” because I wanted to adjust my hair. Clearly they didn’t wait lol. Lilian was very nice that day and helped us take so many delightful photos!!! She knows all the best angles, unique spots and lighting to make picture perfect memories… and it was nice to have someone else help carry my heavy DSLR around :P

Park tip: Bring camwhore friends if you don’t have a VIP tour guide to take nice photos of you. You’re gonna want these memories to last you a long time and there’s nothing worse than awfully taken blurry, badly cropped pics!!!

You might not be able to tell but Sam and I were so tired that day. I had to digitally remove a whole lot of eyebags LOL. We’d woken up at like 7am prior to our USS trip to finish a few cake orders and the night before we stayed up from 9am to 2am to do a whole day’s worth of back breaking work!!!!!!!

To have freedom on other days, we sacrifice and work like crazy on others.

Even though I have not caught the movie, Water World was still highly entertaining with lots of action (punches, kicks, back flips, falling from 4 storeys into the water!) and EXPLOSIONS!

Melody & I kept involuntarily shrieking in shock whenever a “BOOM” went off somewhere. Super auntie we areeee.

I know they’re professionals, but I feel so worried for these stunts men!!! Where’s your harness? I know not as cool… but imagine if they failed omg… which hopefully… they never do.

WATER WORLD DONE!!! What’s next?!?

Lilian brought us to take Canopy Flyers in Jurassic Park – a good, scenic mild-ish ride to start the day with. If we’d gone on a big roller coaster I might’ve had a heart attack. I’m getting old, sigh. Roller coasters never used to faze me.

Park tip: Always start small on rides, so you don’t puke up your lunch.

We’re having none of that today! ;)

Unlike Universal Express tickets whereby you can only cut the queue for any attraction once, on the VIP tour you can skip the lengthy lines and go on ANY attraction for unlimited times a day (again and again on your favorite ride!) for as long as the tour lasts (5 hours)

This ride is actually more thrilling than it looks.. especially if you’re going backwards, which was what Sam and I did – you kind of “fly” over the Lost World zone, you can’t see where you’re going and the turns are surprisingly sharp!!

OH HEY!

Spastic face hahaha I couldn’t contain my excitement!

Sam’s favorite part of the park cuz he loves dinos :) What did I say about Lilian, our guide, taking amazing pictures?!

Wowww this picture’s got some weird illusion shit going on. Sam’s arm “blends” into mine, making me look like I’ve got some SERIOUSLY long bendy arms!

*screams at the top of my voice while running towards them*

HOW CAN YOU ALL TAKE PICTURES WITHOUT MEEEE AHHHHHHHHHHHHH

LOL look at their reactions super hilarious. Dunno why but it was like we were on drugs that day.

Say CHEEZ!!!!

We’re in Ancient Egypt now!

It sure FELT like Egypt, if you know what I mean….. *dies* Desert weather!!!!

We suddenly realized both boys were wearing matching Abercrombie & Fitch shirts so we told them to pose models :P

But then REAL MODELS came along on stilts… o.O

Such an odd, odd job. Hah. Stand around on sky high stilts, wear lots of eyeliner, look fit as hell, be gawked at all day.

HAHAHAH Sam.

Anybody keen on hiring Sam as a performer in USS??? He can be a monkey or statue holder person thingy.

Park tip: If you’re not on the VIP tour, chances are that on a busy day, you are unlikely to be able to experience every single ride and show in the park.. So plan your itinerary nicely!

There are some kiddy rides that adults can probably give a miss, like Treasure Hunters. The wait for this was longer than it was worth because it was kid-friendly and all the parents had to bring children on it.

Unfortunately I cannot bring my camera onto the rides (besides being a VIP and all lawl for safety reasons) so I can’t show you guys how AWESOME The Revenge of the Mummy ride was!!!! My favorite part of USS because its so spooky, dark, and the effects were great. Super love the part where it’s pitch black indoors and you’re going at top speed and all you can see are foggy ghouls coming at your face! It was like a smaller scale of the epic one at Universal Studios Florida. So glad we have our own version in Singapore! :)

I tried to find a Youtube Point-of-View video to show those who haven’t been on the ride before how cool it is but then realized 1) I shouldn’t spoil it for you guys and 2) It looks lame on camera. The effects have WAY more impact in real life, its something you have to experience because my words can’t measure up to some of the best special effects in the world!

Passing by all these trucks selling snacks, we got pretty hungry even though our day just begun!

Melody recommended us to have the turkey legs and I was like OMGGG I remember that from when I was 10 years old and sharing some with my Dad in the USA… it was the BEST on a cold day. Piping hot turkey leg, Florida winter and a hot chocolate. Perfection.

The nearest stall to us that sold turkey legs was located in Far, Far Away so that’s where we’re headed!

Loved the Shrek movies!!!!! And here I’m not trying to be FIERCE, just that the sun was really blinding and I was squinting.

The moment we walked in, Accidentally In Love started playing… such a random choice of song for the movie theme but it put me in such a good mood. Love that song! :D

The Fairy God Mother Potion’s shop is actually a juice bar!!! How cute. Wish I could’ve checked that out but accidentally skipped that in our itinerary.

But that’s okay because we can haz TURKEY LEGS!!!!

Woooo they’re a whopping 12 bucks each, but they’re massive and good for sharing within 2 people! They’re just as good as I remember. Piping hot, salty, oily…. totally delicious. I don’t even like turkey but this is on a whole ‘nother scale, brudder.

OM NOM NOM NOMZ

Trying to be hipster with Melody’s reflective sunnies!!!!

….This shot. Not bad. Got artistic value!

Having a VIP tour guide around was awesome because Lilian knew exactly where everything was, so our day went really smoothly! Around the corner in some obscure tent, Puss in Boots was taking photos with guests, so she ushered us there immediately!!!

If not for her attention to detail and sharp mindedness, we would have definitely missed the photo op, because the location was so inconspicuous.

PUSSSSSSSSS IN BOOOOOOOTTSSS!!!

I find the whole concept incredibly adorable… I love his accent, his sword-wielding ways and glistening kitty eyes when he pulls that face *____*

LET’S TANGO BABY!

I walked towards him thinking we’d take a normal smiling photo but he suddenly took me into his arms and held out his hand and I was like HELL YEH LET’S DANCE.

Meow!!!  (= ^;^ =)

I turned my frog into a prince charming alright.

We decided not to take any rides or see any shows in Far Far Away as we’d all been there and done that before so…

Took a short walk to Madagascar where we settled down to finish our turkey legs and to take a breather before our meet and greet session with the Madagascar cast!

Hahahaha Sammmmmm…. *Monkey eating Banana*

Yay for complimentary bottled water for VIP guests throughout the park. We chugged those down like crazy!

Nicholas & Mel sharing a turkey leg. I think its way too huge to finish one on your own…. Anyway while we’re on this topic let me tell you guys a funny story. 2 years ago, Sam and I were in Florida at one of their theme parks buying a turkey leg to share. As we’re lining up, we look over to the tables of people enjoying their turkey legs and noticed one table full of an Asian family and another one with a Caucasian family, sitting next to each other.

The rather scrawny and skinny Asian family were sharing ONE turkey leg amongst themselves (2 parents, 2 kids) while the Caucasians were all having ONE turkey legs to themselves…. EACH. The irony of those two families sitting side by side made the comparison and differences extremely obvious.

Keep in mind that the turkey legs are bigger in America… The Caucasian kids were stuffing their faces in such an unabashed manner, Sam couldn’t stop laughing. Initially we were considering getting 1 each but then settled for sharing one in the end… Good decision.

So from that day onwards I solemnly vowed to always share my food with the people I love. Cheaper, keeps me thinner and sharing = caring. #randomtruestory

ADADJSJ9R9KSFSL THE CRAZY CUTE MADAGASCAR CAST!!!!

With the VIP tour, you get a specially arranged one on one meet and greet with your favorite character at the park! Normally you would have to be lucky to catch these characters roaming around the park taking pictures with people, and that always comes with a long queue.

We were soooooooooo excited to seee themmm because they’re so kayoootteee!!!!!!!!!!!!!! See I’m so excited that I couldn’t even open my eyes.

This was us realizing that one penguin was late and stuck at the back while we snapped photos hahahah

Dat hippo so fat!!!!!!!!!!! And dat lion so darn TALL!

So any ways….. we accidentally left hippo out on one of the shots, like this….
I don’t think she was very happy about that, because when I asked for a solo shot with just the penguins, THIS was what happened – - -

HAHAHAHAH get out of my picture fat ass!!! She ran into the picture frame and blocked our shot!!! I doubled over with laughter. Its incredible how much they can portray without ever saying a word, just hand actions.

These people are so good at what they do! It must be BLAZING inside that suit.

When the penguins came out I couldn’t stop jumping and screaming and hugging them. I FUCKING LOVE PENGUINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THESE WERE SO WADDLY AND ROUND AND HAPPY LOOKING.. LOL I LOVE, LOVE, L♥VE THEM.

And there was one that wouldn’t stop playing with my hair…… I think they like that red color. :’) I want to take them home. Please?? PLEASE UNIVERSAL STUDIOS???

She (I know her name is Gloria, but it sounds wrong calling her that) then asked for my apology by asking me to take a photo with her :P she came up with this pose, not me!!!

The penguinsssssssssss

I wanna try wearing one of those mascot suits one day!
Just to see how well I’m able to move in them. After taking photos with us, these guys RAN (and I mean ran, like damn fast) onto stage to do the “I LIKE TO MOVE IT MOVE IT” dance where they shaked their bootays with great energy and did dance moves I can’t even do WITHOUT a huge mascot suit on. Wowza!!!

I like to movit movit is now officially stuck in my head. *nods and bobs head and points fingers*

Madagascar – A Crate Adventure!

This was one of those slow paced indoor water tunnel rides where colorful figurines pop up everywhere, following the story line from the Madagascar movie :)
Besides the roller coasters, I really enjoy these slower scenic rides!!! Its when I can really soak up the atmosphere and appreciate my surroundings.

These streets will make you feel brand new, the lights will inspire you ♩ ♪

Sipping on an ice cold milo. Bliss.
Not the gross, watered down with ice and still warm type, either. Best iced milo I’ve ever had!!!

Watching Sesame Street perform… Nicholas and Melody walked off without me lol why I cannot watch Sesame Street?! :(

Pssst I hear USS has a spanking new attraction hitting our little island soon and it’s going to have a big yellow bird and his friends in it! ;)

Bring your nieces, cousins, your own kids.. any child deserving of a treat!!!

HUGE Transformers robot!!!! Realistic huh?

There was this massive line of people waiting to take pictures with this autobot but we skipped the queue and jumped straight in there, much to a lot of peoples displeasure. Skipping lines feels horrid and great at the same time. Horrid because people already in line waiting for a long time try to kill you with their death stares, great because you don’t have to wait for anything at all – that’s why they call it VIP treatment!

Nich and Mel couldn’t stop raving about how great they thought the Transformers 4D ride was.

I don’t like 4D rides (read: motion sickness) but it was still cool nonetheless! Very realistic 3d animations!!!

So this is the crazy coaster I’ve been hearing so much about, and I’ve waited a long time to go on this.

Battlestar Galactica is the highest dueling roller coaster in the world at 42.5 meters, at times you feel like you’re going to crash into the opposite coaster because you’re mere inches apart from each other!!!

It was. INSANE.

One of the FASTEST, brain masher roller coaster I’ve ever been on. O_O

The blue (Cylon) was wayyy worse (or awesomer, depending how you look at it) than the red (Human) side because it had all these crazy loops that had me on the verge of puking because I took the red one first, then the blue one STRAIGHT AFTER THAT.

Park tip: Do not attempt both Cylon and Human in the same hour. You will die. LOL.
If you can’t take a lot of loops or rides that go around in a repetitive motion like me (for eg Teacup spinning rides, Pirate ships), do yourself a favor and stay away from Cylon. Human is fun enough. Knowing I have a tendency of motion sickness, I went on the Cylon anyway… because you don’t just go to USS without going on both, right?

I’ve taken a lot of roller coasters in my time… In fact they’re one of my favoritest things in the world- buy boy, these were so so so fast the G-Forces were out of this world!!!

These shook me up so badly, I had to take a break at a nearby cafe because swear to god, I couldn’t even walk in a straight line. Everyone said my face went white hahaha.

Our last attraction of the day.

We all got SOAKED on this River Rapids adventure… saved this for the last because I knew I was gonna get wet, thank goodness Lilian provided us with complimentary ponchos on a whim other wise I would’ve hated this ride!!!
If you can’t tell already, I hate getting soaked. Nicholas was so mean, he tore a massive hole in Melody’s poncho just as we were about to go down a big dip LOL she got a lot wetter than I did!

Walked past Ancient Egypt again on our way out of the park, and took photos with Lilian in front of Revenge of the Mummy!

By this time I’m totally beat. Zero care about appearance – tied up my hair, ripped off my falsies and walked around like a corpse. LOL

I like how there’s non-stop entertainment at USS for everyone – even if you’re not big on roller coasters, there are cinematic shows (you HAVE to watch Lights Camera Action! featuring Steven Spielberg), dancing performers, character mascots to entertain you, rock climbing & more.

There’s something new along every corner you turn!

I actually don’t know who Mae West is, but since she looked kinda pretty… we took a picture with her anyway lol

This one not so pretty.

Last shot, and we’re out of the park!!! What a day its been. I look back at these pictures and laugh every single time :)

Thank you so much Resorts World Sentosa for this amazing day out at Universal Studios Singapore with my friends, experiencing it in the best way possible – on the VIP guided tour!!!!!

All of us had the time of our lives!!! It was such a different experience and (obviously) so much more enjoyable than the first time I went with just Universal Express tickets.

If you’re interested in finding out more about Universal Studios Singapore’s VIP tours, click here!

Universal Studios Singapore is now having a Hollywood After Party every Saturday after the rest of their park closes, from 7-11pm – its an awesome place to hang out with your friends at night, $13 for free flow beer and $15 for all-you-can-eat buffet madness!!!!!

Say whaaaat?

We went to check it out when it first opened on 28 july and it was so much more happening than I’d expected.

We spent the night stuffing our faces with food (laksa, satay, paus, wantons, and more) and guzzling beer while watching the Olympics.

Chyeahhh. That’s how we roll.

Harry Potter Exhibition

When someone first asked me on Formspring whether I was going for the Harry Potter Exhibition (a few months ago?) I had no idea what they were talking about.

I didn’t even know they had an exhibition, and that it was coming to Singapore! I’m kind of (very) slow when it comes to these sort of things. Last year I even had no idea that Taylor Swift was coming to Singapore till about 3 days beforehand? *facepalm*

I made a mental note to check the exhibition out when it’s opened. Then, a week ago, my mother rang me up and told me she had Harry Potter tickets for me & Samto see the exhibition before it was open to the public. WOOPIE-DOO!!!!!!!! I srsly love you Marina Bay Sands. You are the best hotel in Singapore :D And I love you too mummy!

Outfit of the day – mum was back from her USA trip and brought home lots of gifts, as usual. This floral A&F dress and magenta-ish pink Kate Spade bag was some of them! ♥ ♥

Sam and I literally bouncing up & down with excitement before the exhibition preview. I’m so glad I got him to love Harry Potter as well!

Make up of the day~

Had dinner with the fam at Mozza Pizzeria. I actually like their appetizers & desserts there way more than their pizzas.

Dessert!! Anything salted caramel (on the left) is yummo.

Gobbled everything up hastily, before running (yes running, the only time I ever run is for Harry Potter, Taylor Swift or when a butterfly is behind me) to the exhibition area, at the Art Science Museum.

The Art Science Museum was situated in a very nice place where you got a fantastic view of the city skyline.

Thanks for the directions.

My face, the whole night. Alternating between :D and :’DDDDDDD

Getting in line.. there were HORDES and hordes of people! Even on the preview night when it’s meant to be a private event. I can’t imagine on the first day of public opening – must have been swarming with eager fans!!!

As I looked around I saw a lot of elderly people, most yabbering away in mandarin or various dialects. I thought to myself, “What are all these old people doing here?!?”... Then I realized they were only here because it was a free invitation for all paiza members of MBS.. @___@

Imagine the die hard fans that could be in their place!! It’s so typical Singaporean style to go for anything free, even when they don’t necessarily want or need it. A good number of them looked bored out of their brains. If you think HP is boring, go home!! Boo!!!!

Only a few steps away from the exhibition weeeeeeee

I zoomed off before Sam could take another proper picture. LOL

The first artefact I saw – the Flying Ford Anglia!!!!!! It was SO COOL seeing all the movie props that the stars used right in front of you. It’s like they brought movie magic to Singapore! It hits home that the movies are in actual fact… just editing and acting on film. With specially designed fake props. They’re not real. :( But I know I’m not the only one who wished magic was real.

I loved replaying the scenes inside my head as I examined the various items!

Why thank you for standing outside the exhibit to greet us, you three. *giggles* You shouldn’t have….

Cool water vapour misty projection effect thingy.

….And here we begin a journey of discovery.

At the start of the exhibit, you’re given a brief introduction of the Harry Potter movies, then a kid gets randomly picked out from the crowd to get sorted by the sorting hat!!! When they were asking for volunteers to get sorted, my hand shot straight up, along with the rest of the kids.

HAHAH no shame. Of course, they picked the kid in the end. I wish they woulda picked me though, coz the kid actually said he *doesn’t* like Harry Potter movies, and has no clue what he was doing there. GASPPP THE BLASPHEMY. I shall try my best not to Crucio you, off to the dungeons you go, the troll can have you!

Harry’s clothes. I “jokingly” asked Sam if I could lean over and sniff it. You know, Daniel Radcliffe has worn it before and stuff. He laughed. I wasn’t joking… I think.

The exhibition had LOADS of stuff. The actual wands used be the actors, clothes that they wore in famous scenes, even Mandrakes that you could pull out of their pots and when you did, they’d wail & cry!!! They even had quidditch – human style. Quaffles that you can throw with your hand through the hoops! The whole exhibit was extremely engaging and interactive. LOVED it – certainly did not disappoint! I highly recommend everyone who is a fan to go… How can you NOT? Even if you’re not a big fan of HP, you should. It’s tons of fun. The movie magic reminded me a lot of Universal Studios in Florida – I still haven’t been to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter yet… :(

Some day.

Gilderoy Lockhart always makes me laugh. He’s so silly & fabulous! I didn’t manage to snap a lot of pics because there was just too many people crowding around stuff and it was dimly lit. iPhone cameras don’t do well in such situations.

Ah, I always had a soft spot for Lupin. I have no care for werewolves, but I did think the way he died was sudden (they all are) and sad :( He was so nice to Harry!

Quidditch robes are sexy. Was really disappointed when I found out the gift shop does not sell robes of any sort, or life-sized adult broomsticks. WHAT?!?!

Famous Prisoner of Azkaban set…. I HATED that rainbow belt that Hermione wore. So out of character :/

And man, that Hippogriff was huge. I know they’re meant to be big, but when I saw it IRL…. I’d bow down to that shit, lol. Intimidating. Malfoy had some balls. (until he goes IT’S KILLED MEH)

…K, I don’t wanna spoil too much for people who haven’t seen the exhibit yet – so this is all the pictures I’ll be posting of the exhibition itself! So what can you expect at the gift shop? Lots of amazing but EXPENSIVE stuff.

Probably the cheapest thing in the souvenir store – chocolate frogs with collectible cards. Ate one, it didn’t jump away from me and out the window. Gutted.

BERTIE BOTT’S JELLYBEANS!!! These are wayyy, way awesome. I fed Sam the booger, which he thought tasted like nothing. Then I gave him the rotten egg and he just about barfed in his own mouth. He got pissed off and went to wash out his mouth after that. Hilarious. Great to prank your friends with :D Or to just goof around and make stupid expressions as you chow down on a gross flavor.

I wish they sold love potions but they didn’t. They did have a lot of other random stuff though – Hedwig the owl, behind-the-scenes books of the movies, gryffindor scarves, wands of various characters (they say it’s an exact replica of what they used in the movies – right down to the same wood!), jewelry that Hermione wore during the Yule Ball (pretty!), etc.

Even the time turner Hermione used, which I thought was awesome. I really liked the Marauder’s map as well – super detailed and I admire how it was used in the movies…. but it was $60. For a piece of paper. No doubt it was a map of Hogwarts T___T But there wasn’t any moving footprints on it, how to justify the price?

Dunno why everyone thinks that plush toy Hedwig is so cute… I think it’s kind of ugly.

We ended up buying a Gryffindor scarf, Harry Potter Wand (FOR ME!), a Slytherin shirt and Snape wand (For Sam. After all this time?.... Always.) and also chocolate frogs + jellybeans. I chose Harry’s wand because… (I mean Harry’s wand chose me because :P) I don’t have a favorite character. I’m not biased towards a certain character.  I figured it’d be best for me to get Harry’s wand because he’s the main character, what the story revolves around and also Harry’s wand looked the most normal to me. The female characters (Luna and Hermione) had wands for sale too, but they looked too girly and boring. I wish they sold Bellatrix’s wand – it was spikey and uber cool & evil looking – the best IMO! Voldemort also had an awesome wand but how could I support Voldy?

The wands were $75 each. Gryffindor scarf was $35, Slytherin shirt $40, and jellybeans / chocolate frogs $6 each.

Total damage = $249.

Having a Gryffindor VS Slytherin showdown in the hotel room with your boyfriend feeling TOTALLY like wizards and witches  = Priceless.

If you’d like to immerse yourself into the magical world of Harry Potter: The Exhibition as well, it’s going on from

2 June 2012 - 30 September 2012

Marina Bay Sands, ArtScience Museum

By the way, Hogwarts…. I’m still waiting for that acceptance letter.
