Proud to be an Olympus PEN ambassador!

I have some pretty exciting news to share with you guys: I’ve recently been made an Olympus PEN ambassador!

Alongside my blogger buddies Yina Goh and Evonnz, we will be proudly representing Olympus for the next whole year, showing you the type of pictures you can take with Olympus cameras and how we incorporate our Olympus cameras into our everyday lives and blogging duties!

I couldn’t be more pleased about this ambassadorship and arrangement because I’ve been a religious Olympus fan for the past couple of years, thanks to Yina. Ever since she introduced me to the Olympus PEN E-PL5 (the camera she was using back then), I’ve never used another camera brand for my blog and Instagram posts since. I fell in love with Olympus cameras because of how reliable they are.

You can always trust the image quality to be amazing, and the user interface easy to navigate. It’s a very no-frills kind of brand, right up my alley. I don’t need cameras to be gimmicky, I just need them to work perfectly well for what they’re built for, and I feel that Olympus understands that very well. It is classic yet modern.

Functionality at its best.

So here are some of my favourite features of the Olympus PEN E-PL7 Camera that I’ve had pleasure of playing with recently:

1. I’ve never encountered any other camera that has a flip-down screen so it’s super convenient to take selfies with this feature on the Olympus camera! Also, with the powerful 3-Axis Image Stabilisation, I realised that it takes me a lesser time to capture an Instagram-worthy selfie as the photos turn out super clear!

2. I can edit the photos instantly! I love how it has Instagram-like features whilst producing great quality photos. I was playing around with the 14 live-preview art filters that was really fun.

3. With the Olympus PEN EPL-7’s Wi-Fi function, I can sync the camera directly to my phone via the Olympus Image Share smartphone application for instant sharing. I no longer need to transfer photos to my laptop first. Instead, I can directly edit my photos on my phone and share my photos within minutes!

Olympus has recently launched My PEN, My Style – the new PEN E-PL7 online customisation service screaming bold patterns and colours that lets you bring out the fun and style in shooting as functionality meets fashion!

Available exclusively online at, you can now flaunt your personality and flair by dressing your E-PL7 to match your individual style!

You can choose different strap patterns, bright coloured camera skins, various camera body colours and lens selection according to your own personal style and flair. I had so much fun customising my own “shiberty” camera at You can preview your final customised PEN E-PL7 on the website before making the purchase.

You can also incorporate the PEN E-PL7 camera in your fashion getup with a wide selection of colourful and exciting strap options from the likes of floral prints to patterned shapes and a handy assortment of premium leather camera bags from American brand Jill-E, and chic, colourful Cath Kidston pouches to keep your camera well protected from dusts or scratches!

Everyone has a different shooting style. So pick from 4 different types of lenses to suit your preference. Be it for #OOTD shots or to capture a fun day out with the girlfriends, My PEN, My Style has the perfect lens for you.

My customized PEN E-PL7 would look something like this! I love my pinks and floral prints, and this customized set suits my feminine “cupcake girl” side perfectly.

I chose to use the M.Zuiko Digital 25mm f1.8 lens because I am a true blue #foodie!

Not only does it let me take my food images up close, but, it creates a soft defocusing effect which brings out the finer details in my photos. Also, I don’t have to worry about dimly lit areas as this lens has got it covered!

I brought the PEN E-PL7 with me on my recent trip to Japan, and here’s some captures of the yummy food I had during my holiday taken with the camera!

Shooting was such a breeze thanks to the quick shutter speed and smart functions.

Even in low-lighting conditions, my images remain relatively sharp and the auto focus & shutter speed of the PEN E-PL7 always astounds me! The white balance of the pictures were also effortless to achieve as the settings are easily adjustable while shooting.

It’s a lightweight camera that is great for all sorts of lifestyle purposes I may need it for – selfie-taking, scenery shots, foodie captures and the list goes on! My favorite part about this camera is how compact and functional it is without being too costly or heavy to lug around. I know a lot of girls (like myself) can’t stand lugging around a heavy or bulky camera on a daily basis, but this would fit into your everyday handbag just fine!

Furthermore, once you’ve customized your very own unique PEN E-PL7 to represent your style, carrying it around on your neck would be a sort of fashion statement and accessory!

I hope you’ve enjoyed looking at the tantalizing food shots and customization possibilities I’ve shared in this post.  Stay tuned to this blog for further updates about my photographic journey with Olympus in future posts to come!

Perfect Italiano is giving away free cooking kits!

The time has come yet again for me to explore the world of cooking with Perfect Italiano cheese and sharing with you the results of my culinary adventures!

Perfect Italiano is a cooking cheese brand that adds simple Italian flair to everyday family meals. It is simple and easy to use, preventing homemade meals from being difficult, complex and time-consuming. You can easily add an Italian flair to your meals with a sprinkle of their great tasting cheese. Using Perfect Italiano’s cheese as the main ingredient, I’ve whipped up and shared the recipes for: Mac & Cheese and Deli Sandwich, Alfredo Pasta Bake and Parmesan Apple Crumble, & Tortilla Pizza and French Onion Soup.

That’s a total of 6 different dishes that feature various usage of their range of cheeses, and today, let’s add 2 more to the list! Today’s recipes were specifically thought up to be very inexpensive, quick, and delicious to make. Anyone, even without prior cooking experience, can attempt these! Both recipes should take under 10 minutes for prep AND cooking time. Not forgetting they are vegetarian-friendly as well!

Cheesy Eggy Mee Goreng

Ingredients (serves 1):

  • A packet of your favorite instant Mee Goreng
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tablespoon of milk
  • Japanese seasoning (consisting of seaweed & sesame mainly)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
  • 2 handfuls of Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes cheese

  1. Prepare your Mee Goreng according to the packet instructions. I like to have my noodles very firm with lots of bite. Soggy noodles are just meh. Plate your noodles.
  2. Whip up 2 eggs in a bowl with a tablespoon of milk, then stir in 2 moderate handfuls of Perfect Italiano Perfect Bakes cheese.
  3. Pour into frying pan and cook the scrambled eggs over medium heat with some butter or oil, removing them from the heat while they’re still quite runny. Gently place on top of noodles.
  4. Garnish with Japanese seasoning and a good squeeze of ketchup all over your noodles.

I don’t usually eat instant noodles. I find the taste boring and not worthy of my calories. I’d rather eat bread with spread. But this, I would gladly wolf down again and again! The cheesy runny egg addition absolutely turns your average boring instant Mee Goreng into something much more special.

A plate of instant Mee Goreng with a fried egg on top just isn’t quite the same thing. Isn’t it awesome how some unexciting food we’re totally familiar with can be completely re-invented with just some cheeses?

It kinda reminds me of okonomiyaki, which is Japanese egg-wrapped fried noodles! You can do so much more to this, or leave it as it is. Make it even sexier by adding some meat (hot dogs perhaps, to keep to the “instant” theme?), but I chose to keep it simple and do-able under 5 minutes, because this is my idea of a yummy quick-fix.

The tart and sweet ketchup is necessary to balance out the flavors. Despite not being a baked dish, I chose Perfect Bakes for this as it contains a mix of three different cheeses for a more well-rounded taste!

Cheesy Chocolate Banana Fritters

  • Bananas (as few or as many as you’d like)
  • Corn starch
  • Panko breadcrumbs
  • Egg
  • Some milk
  • Maple syrup
  • Shaved chocolate
  • Perfect Italiano Mozzarella Cheese
  • Oil for deep frying

  1. Peel and cut bananas into shorter lengths if using the longer variety.
  2. Dip bananas in milk, then coat with corn starch.
  3. Crack and mix an egg in a bowl. Dip corn starch coated bananas into egg wash.
  4. Coat the bananas in panko breadcrumbs.
  5. Deep fry the bananas in hot oil until golden brown which takes about 15 seconds.
  6. Sprinkle on shaved chocolate and Perfect Italiano Mozzarella Cheese, and finish off with a generous drizzle of maple syrup!

These are inspired from a local treat called Goreng Pisangs! But instead of being simply fried in a thick batter as most stalls would sell them, I chose to give it a crispy but thin coating instead, letting the natural flavors of the juicy and sweet banana come through more. The shredded Mozzarella Cheese and shaved dark chocolate pieces complement the banana fritter perfectly and it does NOT taste the same without the cheese. I’ve tried and tested this theory.

The cheese adds a certain savory taste that enhances the flavor and because mozzarella is so mild, it’s not strange at all! Finally, we drizzle maple syrup all over this creation because… maple syrup over anything is a fantastic idea. ;)

I hope you give these unorthodox fusion recipes a try!

They’re extremely simple and there’s very little to wash up afterwards because there are only a few steps to take. I wanted to show you guys that cheese doesn’t have to be used for only Western dishes, but that it can be easily incorporated into Asian food. We’re lucky to live in Singapore where good food is easily available and we can enjoy all sorts of cuisines from around the world, so we should make full use of this global exposure to our advantage!

Recipe: Tortilla Pizza and French Onion Soup by Perfect Italiano!

Cheese is always a staple in my fridge.

Every single time I go grocery shopping, I’d pick up a few packets of cheese from Perfect Italiano. I go through cheese quicker than I’d like to admit. One of my absolute favorite snack is a grilled cheese sandwich which I love that I can easily whip up in a mere few minutes. I tend to stay up late playing video games, so I’m always hungry in the middle of the night and for some reason my midnight cravings are always the same things: nasi lemak and melted cheese. YUM.

Perfect Italiano is a cooking cheese brand that adds simple Italian flair to everyday family meals. It is simple and easy to use, to prevent homemade meals from being difficult,
complex and time-consuming. It is said that the simple secret to good Italian cooking lies in the freshness of the ingredients used. And that exact same philosophy is applied to Perfect Italiano cheeses – only the best ingredients are used so that you can achieve simple and perfect Italian recipes, anytime and anywhere.

I’m always thinking of new dishes I can cook with the end results boasting beautifully melted cheese. I’d like to share two of my newest cheese food experiments with you, for you to attempt at home as well! I hope you guys will love these dishes as much as I do. I’ve been making them so often ever since!

Tortilla Pizza

Ingredients (most are optional & amount up to your preference):

  • Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus
  • tortilla wraps
  • tomato paste
  • halved cherry tomatoes
  • baby spinach leaves
  • basil leaves
  • parma ham / bacon / your choice of meat
  • truffle oil
  • sliced portobello mushrooms
  • olive paste
  • eggs

  1. Preheat oven or toaster to 180 degrees.
  2. Lay tortilla pieces on baking tray. Spread tomato paste all over the tortilla wraps with the back of a spoon.
  3. Sprinkle generously with Perfect Italiano Pizza Plus on top of tomato paste. When you think you’ve got enough, sprinkle on some more! Is there such a thing as too much cheese?
  4. Arrange desired amount of ingredients onto your pizza.
  5. If you’d like to include an egg on your pizza, make a little well in the middle then crack the egg into it.
  6. I made two different varations, one with cherry tomatoes + spinach + basil + parma ham + mushrooms, and the other one with cherry tomatoes + olive paste + basil + mushrooms + egg + truffle oil!
  7. Pop into the oven to bake for 6-8 ingredients, or until your cheese is golden brown and the egg cooked through!
  8. If using parma ham, do not arrange on pizza to bake in oven, simply place shredded parma ham on pizza separately afterwards.

The end result is an awesome thin crust pizza that takes only 15 minutes to make, from start to finish!

I love this recipe because it’s so flexible and convenient. Tortilla wraps make surprisingly good pizza bases. The sides get very crispy and the middle part is thin and soft, just the way I like it. As long as you’ve got your tortilla wrap, tomato paste and Pizza Plus cheese, the rest of the ingredients are completely optional and up to your own creativity and preferences.

I’m having a dinner gathering at my place this weekend and I plan to make this for them because everyone loves pizza, and I can easily make different variations of this dish so everyone will have a pizza they’ll love! I can prep the pizzas in advance before they arrive, and when they’re here, I’ll pop it into the oven to bake and they can have a fresh pizza right from my oven! Each tortilla pizza is personal-sized and the amount is just nice for a satisfying meal. Pizzas tend to be priced quite heftily when purchased outside, so whenever I have a pizza craving, I turn to this recipe instead!

I love ordering this next dish in restaurants, so I attempted a home made version and I’m pleasantly surprised by how well it turned out!

French Onion Soup

Ingredients (serves 4):

  • five medium white onions, chopped
  • 1 clove of garlic, minced
  • 6 cups of beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • sliced buttered baguette
  • 1/4 cup cooking wine
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Perfect Italiano Mozzarella
  • Perfect Italiano Parmesan

  1. Preheat oven / toaster to 200 degrees.
  2. Melt the butter over a deep saucepan, then add chopped onions and garlic to the pan and cook over medium heat.
  3. Add sugar, and caramelize the onions until soft and brown in color, which can take up to 25 minutes.
  4. In the meantime, toast & butter the baguette, then top off with Perfect Italiano Mozzarella and Perfect Italiano Parmesan.
  5. To the saucepan, add your bay leaves, dried thyme, wine, flour, and stir vigorously.
  6. Add your 6 cups of beef broth, then once the soup comes to a simmer, turn off the heat.
  7. Do a taste test and add more water or beef broth as desired to dilute or intensify the taste.
  8. Ladle your onion soup into oven-safe bowls.
  9. Top off with baguette cheese slices, sprinkle more Perfect Italiano cheese on, then bake for 5 minutes or until cheese is golden brown.

This french onion soup makes for an uncommon and hearty side dish / starter. It’s quite rare to come across this dish being served in Singapore, which was why I just had to attempt it myself. The beef broth gives it a nice deep flavor while the caramelized onions lend a subtle sweetness, finished off with some heat from the wine,& the cheesy baguette slice… Bon Appétit!

There’s so many delicious things you can do with Perfect Italiano cheeses! They’ve got you covered from snacks, appetizers, main courses and even to desserts.

Anyone can bake with Betty Crocker!

Everyone seems to think that baking is an extremely complicated activity – it can be occasionally, but what they don’t know is that it doesn’t have to be like that all the time.

I know a lot of people get put off by the idea of baking because it seems like you’ll require a ton of specific kitchen equipment, time, effort and washing up.. That’s why you’ll be surprised how simple and fuss free baking becomes with the help of Betty Crocker!

Betty Crocker is a brand name and trademark of American Fortune 500 corporation General Mills. Every time I think of Betty Crocker, I picture a really cheery American mom in her white picket fenced home and rustic looking kitchen whipping up pies and cakes for her children. She’s the aunt I never had. Something about the name is so convincing! Before I even knew how to fry an egg, I attempted baking with Betty Crocker products. This was when I was about 13 years old.

My friends and I would buy Betty Crocker cake mixes after school and attempt to bake brownies, cookies and cakes together…. some turned out great, better than expected (much to our surprise!) and other attempts – not so amazing. We burnt a few batches of batter here and there, but we always had a great time trying. I believe I’ve tried baking almost every single Betty Crocker cake mix product out in the market, and I’ve never been disappointed by the results, considering how quick and easy it was to make it!

Since Chinese New Year is around the corner, baked goods are aplenty around! There’s so many cookies and different snacks available in the market for you to choose from. But in my opinion, the best kind of goodies to be presented with are the homemade type. There’s nothing like a cookie or cake fresh out of your own oven. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have fancy kitchen equipment or the best recipe in the world. Sometimes it doesn’t even matter if you really know how to bake or not. The effort of making something yourself counts way more!

Betty Crocker’s Chocolate Chip Cookies have been a long-time favorite of mine.

They’re chewy on the inside, crisp on the outside and contain loads of delicious melted chocolate chips when they’re still warm, reminding me exactly of the kind of cookies I used to bug my dad to buy for me when we were on holiday in America.

Following the simple instructions found on the back of the packet, all I had to do was add softened butter and 1 egg to the premix, and combine the ingredients!

Simply put all your ingredients in a bowl, then mix well. Your cookie dough should be moist and looking like the above!

No electrical mixer or multiple tools / bowls required at all. An ideal baking session for those who seldom bake but still want to give it a go every now and then, because there’s so little to actually clean up and you won’t have to invest in tools or equipment that you will hardly use.

Scoop small little lumps of cookie dough onto a greased baking pan or a tray lined with baking paper, then bake at 180 degrees for 10 minutes in a preheated oven or until the cookies are golden brown!

It doesn’t matter if your cookie dough lumps aren’t particularly round in shape, they will flatten and bake in a round-ish shape in the oven! Besides, I think oddly shaped cookies have character and look more homemade. What I love most about baking is how heavenly the whole house smells when something yummy is in the oven. You can’t escape the wafting aroma, I make my neighbours jealous every day!

Once the timer for the oven goes off, let the cookies cool for about 5-8 minutes and then they’re ready for consumption!

Look at my beautiful Betty Crocker cookies that were completed in less than 20 minutes! These can be made by absolutely anyone. You can attempt this as a fun activity with your kids, parents, boyfriend / girlfriend or even by yourself – a guaranteed good time!

I love eating my bakes fresh out of the oven. These cookies reminded me of so many good times, and each bite I took into them reminded me of the many occasions I’ve made them for friends and family to enjoy over the years! I’ve made two batches of these in the past week alone with different friends and everyone was extremely surprised by how easy the process was and how good it tasted. In fact, the second batch I made at a friend’s house without a proper oven and it baked just fine in a small toaster oven as well!

If you’re one of those people who label yourself as someone who “can’t bake”, Betty Crocker will change your mind! Why not impress your loved ones this Chinese New Year by picking up a packet of Betty Crocker cake mix and unleash your inner domestic goddess? Who knows, you might just discover a new found love for baking after you’ve had a taste of what it’s like to be able to show love to people through baked goods. It will always be one of my favorite things to do for other people because it brings them so much joy!

At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy

Cooking is probably one of my favorite things to do in life – as made obvious by my instagram gallery of the dishes #shibertycooks. There’s something so incredibly special about filling up someone’s stomach not just with food, but with love. Providing food for someone has always been the most basic, yet one of the strongest ways to show your care and affection. Picking up cooking is one of the best things I’ve ever done for myself, and the people around me! In this day and age, food is not just sustenance – food can be so good (or bad) that it evokes strong reactions and emotions in you. And that’s why its so powerful!

Last week, I made a trip down to the renowned culinary school, At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy to check out their campus during their open house, and was completely blown away by what I experienced and saw!

I’ve had a keen interest in cooking and baking for a few years now, but have never properly considered pursuing it academically until recent times. I’ve always relied on imagination, creativity and a little bit of intuition to guide me along when I cook and bake, but it doesn’t seem like a bad idea to learn proper techniques from the professionals!

It takes a special kind of person to excel in the F&B industry. This isn’t for everyone, and At-Sunrice GlobalChef Academy’s rigorous pedagogy provides their students with an opportunity to progress towards a degree pathway and achieve a competitive headstart into the industry.

Since 2001, At-Sunrice has been endlessly cultivating global chefs and F&B professionals in an experiential environment of culinary authenticity, best-fit apprenticeships and innovation. The academy delivers skills and knowledge in the East & West, Old & New World, Herbs & Spices and Innovation and Technology. At-Sunrice’s 1-week Study and 2-week Work rotation enables students to expand their horizons beyond the classroom and better integrate as motivated professionals into the trade upon graduation.

At-Sunrice empowers their students to pursue more than just a career within a kitchen, encouraging them to venture into diverse career options such as research & development, entrepreneurship or to further their education. Having signed degree articulation agreements with renowned universities such as Johnson & Wales University (USA), University of West London (UK) and William Angliss Institute (Australia), At-Sunrice’s degree pathway programme is designed to stand apart with the right balance of academic studies, cultural exposure and work experience.

Seeing big bright smiles on the faces of students during their class as we were touring around the big campus!

I think I know why they might be smiling so much. Check out these amazing churros that they’d just made! I would be sporting huge grins everyday if school involved whipping up delicious pretty foods and then consuming them. I’d promise never to skip class again! I can’t imagine a boring day happening here.

It was beyond fascinating for me to be up close around industrial sized equipment and large scale kitchens – it’s like a dream come true! What I’d give to have access to all their state of the art machines and impressive supply of tools. I feel that cooking and baking are as much science as they are art. And with science, your apparatus is extremely important! Being in an upgraded environment like this would certainly allow me to expand my limits and explore new possibilities that I will not be able to achieve at home.

Several live cooking demos by their chefs and alumni were happening during the open house to give guests a first-hand experience of what it would be like to enroll in At-Sunrice! Since Christmas is just around the corner, they were preparing a delicious juicy turkey roast, showing you how to properly prepare and serve the bird to your party guests this festive season!

Mmm, turkey with cranberry sauce!

The open house was also a fantastic opportunity to meet and mingle with the chefs, asking them any burning question about cooking I may have in mind.

They are experienced individuals of diverse nationalities and backgrounds, but what they do have in common is their friendliness and professionalism, answering the various questions thrown at them with ease and confidence! I have to commend At-Sunrice for the positive and relaxed atmosphere despite being an academic campus, it was casual and warm, yet professional and enlightening. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. In an industry where it’s mostly fueled by interest and passion, keeping your spirits high and flame alive is absolutely crucial!

This demo was my favorite one of the day – Italian Macarons!

Even though I’ve been baking macarons for a while now, it was a great experience watching someone else demonstrate a different technique from what I’ve been doing. Their method is very thorough and careful, resulting in beautiful, almost perfect macarons. I picked up a couple of useful tips from them, which I’m all too happy about!

These beautiful freshly-piped macarons had the audience in Oooh’s and Ahh’s as they witnessed how they were made from scratch.

Did you know that the main ingredients of macarons are almond flour and egg whites? Hence the nutty meringue taste!

Since macarons are not meant to be eaten freshly baked and instead have to be stored at least one day in the fridge for best results, they handed out salted gula melaka macarons they’d made the day before, and it was DEEEELICIOUS.

One of the best I’ve ever tasted! I am so inspired to take up a class at At-Sunrice after my first bite. Chewy, smooth, full flavored without being overly sweet. My biggest problem with most store-bought macarons is how overbearingly sweet they are. The overload of sugar kills it for me. I like enjoying my desserts without worrying about suffering from diabetes.

Having a wide range of courses that specialize in both Western and Asian cuisines at At-Sunrice, this demo of a popular Thai noodle dish – Pad Thai, had us all salivating while the aroma from the wok wafted through the kitchen.

At-Sunrice has put in place a rigorous partner selection process to ensure that long-term relationships are built with partners who see themselves as co-developers of F&B talents for the industry, and are willing to invest in resources to train the students. In return, these partners also benefit from having additional skilled employees and an advantage in talent spotting for its recruitment pipeline.

If you’re thinking of pursuing your culinary interest and dreams, don’t hesitate any further.

At-Sunrice is the leading education provider for F&B education, with state-of-the-art facilities, diverse student and staff population, professional and experience faculty and established industry partners to ensure you make the most out of your potential. As someone who used to not be able to even cook maggie mee for myself, I believe that anyone can be a great cook, with a little faith, imagination and patience.

Head to their website,, or email to get more information about their 2015 academic calendar.
