You cannot unsee this

These days, things for Sam and I have been looking pretty solemn, serious, scary, steady.. whatever you wanna call it.

He’s been newly hired for a full time job, and we’re looking for a place to rent as we prepare to move out of my family home in End October / Early November this year. I’m going to be saying goodbye to my home of 7 years, and I don’t know how to feel about it. This condo in Simei is the only real home I’ve ever truly known. So many memories here, with friends and family alike…
Now, with things taking on such a serious tone, naturally I wonder where my romance and relationship is headed towards. Am I ready for my next big chapter in life alongside Sam? Previously he just moved into a house I was already living in. We didn’t have to pay rent, much of the bills, or live in a place of our own. Thousands of questions race through my mind every day as the date and inevitable draw closer. Goodbye teenage years and childhood forever, hello adulthood and responsibilities. Not many people move out before their 21st Birthday, especially in Singapore where most stay at home with their parents until they get married…. not exactly an easy or ideal situation to be in.
A lot of people also turn up the pressure and stress factor by several notches when they ask us, “When are you guys getting married?”…….
At first I laugh and think they’re kidding but I look at the expression on their faces and realize they are not. ‘Scuse me!!!!!! For the record I am ONLY turning 20 years old on the 20th of September 2012, you don’t ask someone under 20 when they are getting married! How age-inappropriate is that question??? There are some things you just don’t ask people. Like asking a fat person if they’re pregnant or a black person if they’re from Africa. Just don’t.
Anyway, I’m not sure I want babies any time soon. Definitely not before I turn 28 at least. Older people talk about how it’s best to have a baby before you turn 25 but I’d like to stay young for as long as possible. My tummy is bulgy enough without a baby inside of it thankewverymuch. I love playing with cute, well behaved babies, as long as they’re not mine.. Like my neighbor’s 1 year old.
Can you imagine if Sam and I had babies? Holy shit.
Sometimes we’d think dreamily about the future, fool around and utter things like, “Our daughter would have your long silky gorgeous hair and glowy skin, and of course my profound intelligence (which I have to argue there is a lack thereof)”. I gave the concept a little more thought and wondered what attributes of myself I’d love for my kids to have. Sam and I make a pretty killer couple. To be honest, I could probably get by just fine without him…

I’m great on my own. So is a pair of classic and plain red soled Louboutin stilettos.

But then you go and add some cool spikey studs all over it to spice up the whole thing and it’s something new and infinitely more brilliant altogether.
You are the silver spikes to my Louboutins, Sam.
(Except I don’t have a pair… I wear Havaianas) But I love you anyway. I am however, extremely apologetic to say that the visual aspects of our marriage & future family isn’t looking so good…. Remember how we used to say “if she had my hair, your face, my wits, your skin” kind of sweet nothings? Yeah, that isn’t really going to work out.

No, this isn’t a break up announcement on my blog, or anything of the sort..
But I just don’t know if I could love my daughter, if she looked like that. Know what I’m saying?!
Let’s agree to put baby making off the list for now (or ever).

Happy 3rd Year Anniversary!

Here’s to my longest relationship yet!

Thank you for the past 3 years we have spent together.

It has been the maddest, wildest roller coaster ride I’ve ever been on. We had our ups, then we had our downs… But the end of the day, they are all part of this crazy game we call l-o-v-e. We met each other in an online game. We talked our hearts out, every single day, for months.

You flew down from Australia to see me once, then you decided you’d like to visit every month from then on. Eventually you moved to Singapore altogether, having to leave behind your job as a medical scientist, friends, family, and life in Melbourne. That is undoubtedly the sweetest thing anyone in this world has ever done for me. We moved in together, and started a cake business, totally out of the blue. Built a new profession from ground up with nothing but a cheap $30 hand held mixer, some flour, and a whole lot of determination. Imagine that & where it has gotten us today. Now we’re embarking on a different journey as you’re starting on a new full time job…

Whatever happens, wherever this road takes us – As long as you’re squeezing my hand tightly in yours, we can overcome anything together. Just promise you will never ever let go.

Happy 3 years anniversary DaNang cupcakes and tea!!! luv u long time.

Singapore and Sam’s birthday

My favorite part about the National Day parade is everybody’s favorite part – the fireworks!!!

There’s just something about explosive colors twinkling in the dark night sky that brings out child like wonder from anyone who is looking up at it from down below with glistening eyes.

I think Sam is both lucky, and unlucky that his birthday falls on the same day as our nation’s birthday.

Lucky because he gets a free firework show and everybody seems to be in a happier mood on that day, but unlucky cuz he doesn’t get to go out and have a normal day in Singapore because it’s a public holiday and everywhere is packed off its tits!!!

For his special day this year, the boyfriend got a 3 night stay at Marina Bay Sands (yea, that place never gets old, we sat and watched the fireworks together *_*), a day of shopping and chocolates, among other things. He’s a pretty simple guy to please. Shove Royce chocolates in front of his face and he’s guaranteed to flash you a smile!

Sorry for looking so much worse than usual because I was REALLY tired (been a crazy ass busy week) and I had on minimal make up, apparently not enough to cover up my dark eye circles and tired peepers. I knew I should have put on falsies to make my eyes appear bigger but my eyelids were already heavy enough to begin with!!

Our aerial view of the NDP from MBS. Those people are so near, yet so far!!! I could almost see Lee Kuan Yew with binoculars. Almost.

Happy birthday babe! 26 already. Tsk so old.

I think we’re quite poor thing one. Do so many customized cakes for other people, literally we’ve provided Singapore with hundredssss of cakes… BUT WHERE IS OURS WHEN IT’S OUR BIRTHDAY??

Nobody ever thinks, “Hey, let’s get the customized cake makers customized cakes for their birthdays!” Nope, it’s like how you wouldn’t buy a cobbler a pair of shoes for their birthday. Kinda sad really, because I DO want to receive a customized cake instead of handing it out for once!!! Well, my 21st Birthday is next year in 2013 so if I don’t get one I’m going to punch somebody in the eye. LOL.

I got him this chocolate cake from Marina Bay Sands’ in house bakery, because I know he loves chocolate. I couldn’t possibly bake a cake to surprise Sam because we live in the same house! Surprises are hard to come by these days… The bakery staff weren’t kidding when they said the cake was “extremely rich” because it was 99.9% CREAM and I couldn’t taste a single ounce of cake crumb. It was more accurately a lump of cream instead of “cake”.

I couldn’t even finish a single slice, but at least the Birthday Boy loved it. (or at least he said he did, he’s a pig any way :P)

I thought this candid pic was pretty funny. I’m almost ALWAYS blurred out in candid pictures because I seem to be constantly moving.

Like this. I think this was me clapping my hands in excitement because I’d previously dropped a numbered candle on the floor (OMFG LOL) while walking into the hotel room to “surprise” him with the birthday cake…. then some kind soul came along to pick up the dropped candle and re-lit it after we finished singing the birthday song.

I got his friends to stick the candles into the cake and apparently it wasn’t deep enough so the number “2″ fell right over. In some of the earlier pictures Sam was posing with a cake that had just “6″ on it @.@

What do you know?

Less than 10 minutes after I brought my cake in, the Marina Bay Sands staff came in an entourage knocking on our front door singin’ “Happpppyyy Birthdayyy to yoouuu”…… bringing Sam THE EXACT SAME CAKE I JUST BOUGHT FROM THEIR IN HOUSE BAKERY NOT THAT LONG AGO.

Aask39438dshdhsfsasowu293hnggg.

I don’t wanna sound like a cheap bastard, but had I known these fools were going to give us the exact same bloody cake, I wouldn’t have spent over $50 on a small cake that wasn’t even fantastic.

Still, the thought was kind – they heard it was Sam’s birthday and within 30 minutes sent a cake up without us even asking. Yay for excellent service!!! Boo for making the same choice of cake as me. I liken this to turning up to an awards show with your rival wearing the same damn dress. I am threatened of being outshone. *falls to my knees*

HOW COULD THIS HAPPEN TO MEEEE….. *sings Simple Plan*

Thanks to all his awesome friends that made the effort to come down and make Sam’s birthday a special one and for filling our night with tons of laughter and smiles!!!

You brave souls conquered the Singaporean peak hour traffic coming into the city on a public holiday. There is no friendship truer than that. *tears*

These pictures are not in chronological order lined up with the rest of the post above, but since they’re related Birthdayly activities, I figured I should post them anyway! :)

Buffet lunch with my folks. They had king crabs by the buckets. I died and went to heaven. Bloody zero carbs also – totally guilt free eating… ♥~♥;

Guilt free eating, I reckon, is the BEST kind of eating there is!!! I can’t even enjoy a plate of my own awesome home cooked pasta these days without feeling a tinge of guilt hidden somewhere beneath my gluttony. Urgh.

I know I’ve said this before (hahaha) but Sam has a very childish, (mildly unflattering?) ape like grin. I find it strangely endearing. I know that when I see his monkey grin, it’s not a fake smile!!

My mum got his some headphones for his birthday. I’m not sure why either. But thanks mum.

The view from our hotel room at night – Gardens By The Bay.

Its amazing how fast Singapore builds itself up…. not that long ago this was just an ugly constructing mess and suddenly now its beautiful. You should see this view when the early morning rays have just softly creeped over the sea water and onto the gardens – captivating. Haven’t actually been there to the gardens yet… I’ll make it a point to the next time!

Hope everyone had a fantastic long weekend and National Day celebration!!!! :*

Phillip’s PJS!!! ♥

So a couple of days ago, something really random and wonderful happened.

We were at a shopping mall (Northlands) and we walked by Lincraft, which is a really big fabric / arts & craft store in Melbourne, and Sam casually said, “Hey, do you wanna make something for Phillip?”

And I’m like, “What do you mean?”

And he’s all like… “We could make him some pajamas. :D”

So I said ok.. I love the idea, but I don’t know how to sew though. Apparently, however, Sam does. o_O Surprise surprise. I can’t think of ONE other male I know that sews lol. I mean I think I know BASIC sewing but I can’t sew anything proper!!! Sam’s parents used to be tailors so I guess he picked up some skills from them here and there. So with a fair bit of skepticism, we stepped into Lincraft and bought a 1 meter long really cute printed fabric with duckies on it, then headed back to his place shortly after wards.

That night, Sam spent 4 hours sewing… taking Phillip’s measurements (LOL no more fried chicken for you, little penguin!), figuring out how to sew sleeves and buttons, his mum and dad even came along to help…

And after a lot of fussing and huffing over the sewing machine…

PHILLIP CAN HAS DUCKIES PAJAMAS!!!!!!!!!! :’D

He even has a matching PJ hat (do humans really wear those to sleep?) and three cute yellow buttons! Cute overloaddd.

Isn’t this just the cutest thing ever????? I can’t believe my boyfriend did that for me!!! I mean a guy who cooks, sews, bakes, and gives awesome massages surely is marriage material. I’m a bit young for that at the moment but I’ll definitely keep this in mind in the future!!!

I’m so pleased with the results, I’m now trying to convince him to sew clothes for my other toys. I think I have like 30+ soft toys in my room.

Me: “I think you should make Phillip a dress! A pink frilly one with pearls!! ^.^ Would look so cute in it hurhur”

Sam: “But why? O.o Phillip is a boy!!”

Me: “Guys wear skirts too! Look at Irishmen!”

Looking at Phillip now puts an even bigger grin on my face than before. His cuteness level just DOUBLED, if that’s even possible. :’)

I think this is pretty high up the list of, “sweetest gestures people have ever done for me.” ♥

The most amazing part was how Sam suggested to do this for me all by himself, without me ever suggesting it to him (like I said I didn’t know he could sew) and he did it because he knew it would make me so happy!!! And it does!!!! It might seem silly to other people, but this means so much to me. It’s the little things like these that matter the most. Knowing how to make your partner happy another person would have no clue of.

I feel so blessed.

So does Phillip, because he has fluffy duckies PJs to wear to sleep now! :) He’ll be kept warm and snuggly all night! His PJs are tailored to fit him even better than mine are, lol, mine are just $7 ones from K-Mart.

Update: Random video that came about when I received a Formspring question going, “What personality does Phillip have?”

You’ll have to turn the volume up to get past my maniacal laughter. Words cannot describe how much I ♥ Phillip!!! Singing and dancing is but one of Phillip’s many talents. :D

Valentine’s Day 2012

This Valentine’s Day, Sam and I decided to keep it relatively simple.

Not because we think splurging on V’day is a waste of money, but because we’re going overseas soon and I tend to spend a lot more than I can afford on my travel adventures so yeah, V’day can take second place this time!

Last year we had a spa session, stayed at an idyllic hotel and had a nice dinner by the sea side.. This year we did almost all of that again except the spa part, which I think I would’ve appreciated the most. ;_; *aching muscles*

Nevertheless, we managed to spend quality
time with each other, and at the end of the day, that’s what matters!

Long before Valentine’s Day actually happened, Sam decorated my room with a bunch of roses and twinkly lights. :’) It is incredibly prettyful and romantic at night!!!!!!! I don’t think I’ll ever find another guy in this world to do this for me. He knows just the right ways to sweep me off my feet. It’s so simple but it lights up my world every night. Literally.

Here’s sort of how it looks like, without any editing done to the colors / lighting:

Except that this was taken with my iPhone (as with many other pictures in this post) so the quality isn’t the greatest, it is in fact a lot less harsh looking and more dreamy in real life! :)

Set me in mood for lovin’ wayyy before the 14th of February. ♥

My V’day activities officially started on the 13th of February.

I woke up in the morning, and baked about 100 cupcakes! But I’ll tell you more about that later.

Sam, seeing me hard at work, decided to cook an amazing Pre-V’day lunch all for meeee!

♥ ♥ ♥ It was delizziioouuss.

1st dish:
Golden mushrooms soaked in sukiyaki sauce, wrapped with bacon, on a bed of buttered baby asparagus.

2nd dish:
Honey glazed marinated pork belly pieces, with super caramelized onions and accompanied by flame grilled portobello mushrooms

3rd dish:
Baked red skinned potatoes with heavy dollops of sour cream, cheese, bacon pieces & spring onions!!!

SUPER DUPER YUMMY. I was like this :’DDDDD FER ME?!

10/10 points for the sweet gesture, effort and taste!! The way to a man’s heart, they say, is through his stomach. I reckon it goes the same way for women. Or any living creature for that matter.

…Back to the cupcakes!

They were butterscotch cupcakes with luscious chocolate buttercream, topped off with gold sprinkles and red hearts then packed them into boxes of 12. Here they are, obscenely squashed in between my thunder thighs for maximum support, hastily squeezed into Nich’s car. LOL.

His car is the tiniest 2 seater convertible ever and it’s quite a miracle that we could squeeze 100 cupcakes into the passenger seat WITH ME in it and that none of the cuppycakes got squashed during transport.

Thanks to Nich who agreed to help me deliver to their far away, obscure locations! You’re a champ!!!

These cupcakes were on their way to Childrens’ Homes. I watched the movie “Patch Adams” recently, and was inspired by how the main character in the movie helped needy children feel better. Something then popped into my head, telling me it’d be a good idea to deliver cupcakes to children’s homes for Valentine’s Day, just to spread some love… and hopefully put a grin on a few kid’s faces. Well 90+ kids in fact.

I only wish I could’ve been there in person to see their expressions when their whole face gets covered with chocolate buttercream!!! Unfortunately I had to rush off to meet Sam for our own plans.

Everyone deserves to be loved.

V’day doesn’t have to be all about romance. It can be going shopping with your girlfriends, spending time with your parents / grandparents or even doing charity and making a stranger’s day. Everyone has a different way of expressing their love. For me, charity was a piece of cake.

I think people should take a chill pill, and stop saying things like “I hate Valentine’s Day!!!” or “FUCK LOVEY DOVEY COUPLES AND THEIR MUSHY BULLSHIT.” It’s not very pleasant.

Sure, it’s commercialized, but so is every other holiday in the calender. Commercialism isn’t always a bad thing. People are happy, and business booms. What is there to complain about? Just because people celebrate Christmas once a year and make a big hooha out of it during that period, doesn’t mean they only love Jesus / God one day out of that whole year. They love God every single day, they just make their worship and affection extra obvious on that one special day.

So it’s not fair at all to say that couples who indulge in Valentine’s Day activities are superficial and hypocritical. Single people who whine and bitch about V’day are no different from the scrooges and grouches that put down X’mas because they are too bitter to be happy for other people.

Just because your friends give you presents and throw a part for you on one specific date annually (your birthday) to celebrate your existence, would that mean they don’t actually care enough about you every other day of the year? No, it just means that people are imperfect, and sometimes we’re too caught up with our own thoughts and doings that we forget to take time to smell the roses. Or to give your special girl roses. Valentine’s Day lets couples all over the world do that.

So dear single, angry people..

If you don’t stop sulking, you might miss the chance for somebody special to fall in love with your smile.

After delivering the cupcakes to their respective locations, Nich dropped me off at Marina Bay Sands where I met up with the boyfie, and….

He surprised me with flowers!!!!

He had the cheekiest smile on his face when he showed up and walked through the door with a big bouquet of roses. Ok not as big as the 100+ roses one he got me last time but still big enough considering I was actually expecting zero!

I was genuinely surprised to receive a bouquet, because I was with him 24/7 and I don’t see how he had the time to buy flowers without me knowing.. after all, we live in the same room. I think he ran out of the house when I went to deliver the cupcakes and hastily bought the bouquet then. I told him not to buy flowers, because they’re so overpriced on V’day… but he did anyway.

I’m not complaining!!! ♥ Thank you for the gorgeous flowers!

Frolicked around in the room for a bit before heading downstairs for the buffet dinner, where we stuffed our faces till we could eat and move no more.. and then we chatted the night away.

I love it when we have the time to have slow dinners, just talking about everything and nothing. A constant flow of meaningful conversation is essential to a healthy relationship! My favorite thing to do with Sam is 1) cuddling and 2) talking about life

I first fell in love with him 3 years ago just listening to his voice online. It wouldn’t be the same if he didn’t have the same deep, hunky voice he does. :P

Cheers to everything we’ve shared, and everything else that is to come.

The rest of the day… was just glorious lazying around. My favorite kind of activity. Falling in and out of naps, watching TV, soaking in bubble baths and watching candlelight flicker. Losing track of time.

I always come to MBS for every special occasion (X’mas, birthdays, anniversaries, just for fun, whenever) it is like a true sanctuary to me. I feel like it’s the only place in Singapore I can TRULY leave Singapore while being right in the middle of it. When I’m here, I either switch off my phone or turn it on silent mode, and forget the world.

No cupcakes to frost, no 2 tiered cake to decorate, no blog hater to leave a rude comment, no twitter drama to follow, no emails to reply, no whatsapp buzzing my phone every few minutes, to cake customers to hound me relentlessly, no errands to run, no maid to come into my room and annoy me….

Absolutely NOTHING to do, except anything that I WANT to do.

That’s what I call a good day. And I will never ever ever get sick of MBS. Lol. Never. I see myself coming back here 30 more times. :)

Phillip enjoying the view!!! I squealed in delight when I found out that Sam had actually packed Phillip into the suitcase. He is the cuddliest thing to ever exist. Usually when I forget to bring him I get bummed out. I love Phillip. I tell him all my problems and he talks back. Don’t ask how, but he really does, lol.

Let me give you an idea. Sam hides behind the penguin and puts on the funniest high pitched voice and thus Phillip the real penguin is born. :3

It’s the CUTEST thing ever coz Sam makes Phillip look like he is moving on his own and makes him flap his arms up and down and bounce hyperactively hahaha I have trouble believing Phillip isn’t actually alive. To me he is. I LOVE LOVE LOVE PHILLIP.

The next morning, on Valentine’s Day itself -

It was the most difficult thing getting out of bed, despite having a late check out at 1pm. MBS has the softest sheets I’ve slept on.

Thankfully we had food to seduce us out of bed. Or we might have just stayed in there forever!

My V’day dress!!! ^.^

Sam likes me in white. So I’m going to hunt more white dresses for my birthday, his birthday, etc. White’s a tricky color… If you pick the wrong dress you’ll look extra wide for nothing. Hopefully this turned out to be a good choice!

My roses!!! ♥ ♥ ♥

If you don’t normally wear red lipstick, V’day is the only day you can, without anyone asking why.

Double the trouble!

Paired my new royal blue knitted cardigan with my embroidered white dress!

After bumming around some more and watching Discovery Channel (our main source of entertainment at MBS), we checked out, I did some shopping at La Senza and we went home!!!

Oh oh – what we got each other for Valentine’s Day!

I was happily napping back in my own bed at home, when I was awoken by Phillip being bounced up and down on my tummy.

And then I saw the card.

And I was like… AWWWWW.

Then he probed me to open the card and to read the inside,…

AND THEN I WAS ALL LIKE

.

.

.

SERIOUSLY THE C U T E S T THING I HAVE EVER BEEN PRESENTED WITH.

It made me sosososososo happy!!! I was like, “Phillip drew this?! Oh Phillip you sweet, sweet thing!” And Sam just stands there wishing he had written “From Phillip & Sam” coz I was showering the penguin with kisses. LOL.

Since we agreed on no expensive presents this year, I also gave him a hand drawn card in return.

Most of you probably won’t know what the image above signifies.

But big ♥ to you if you get it!!! You’ve been a dedicated reader and I love you for it!!!!

The rest of the day was quiet, the way we wanted it.

He whipped up some heart shaped mushroom bites (it tastes likes the one you get at TCC but better!!!) and a beef dish for dinner. Oh and he also made dessert that was heart shaped pavlova which I forgot to take a picture of. Lovely, as always.

I hope your Valentine’s Day was fabulous and filled with love, no matter who you spent it with!!!

Don’t forget to show the people closest to your heart that you love and cherish them, even when it’s not Valentine’s Day.

xoxo,
Jess
