Slim Couture

I hate to admit this, but every time I receive a kind compliment, for example: “You are pretty!” I say thanks with a smile, but a small, spiteful voice inside my head is always lamenting… “Yeah, but you’re still fat.”

Sometimes I wonder if it’s me telling myself that, or just the invisible voice of my critics out there. Even though I’m no longer morbidly overweight or in a particularly unhealthy physical state, I still don’t feel confident enough about the way I look. My weight has been something that’s been bothering me for a long time now. Perhaps you may find this hard to believe because I’m always posting vain pictures of myself. But those pictures have been digitally altered, and I know my good angles, plus I selectively choose which pictures to upload… so I have no qualms posting a photo online, because I’m in total control. In real life, however, there’s no running away from what other peoples eyes see!

I won’t bore you with excessive woeful tales about how chubby I really am, blah blah blah. I’m sure most of you are all too familiar with my weight struggles already. Also, they’re moderately depressing to read about. I’ve posted a whole lot about it throughout the past 2 years or so, you can browse through the “weight loss” labelled posts in my archive if you like, but today’s post will be focusing on a different subject – I’m introducing an effective new weight management program I’ve been on, also under traditional chinese medicine / methods, called Slim Couture.

Slim Couture is a home-grown Singapore company focused on helping women lose weight safely. Through the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, Slim Couture prides itself in providing 100% results guaranteed weight loss solutions to female clients with weight issues since 2010.

I left my face completely unaltered in the pic above so you can see how chubby and round my face actually is! I was blessed to be born with a long face shape and a nice angular jawline but I kind of ruined it all by over eating, lol.

I’d first heard about Slim Couture from Yina last year. She knew I was interested in losing weight (but obviously finding it difficult to gather enough motivation and discipline to stick to a diet / exercise regime) so she recommended Slim Couture to me, stating she had personally witnessed good results for herself despite only having done the treatment for about 2 months. I considered the option, but decided I would try losing the weight all by myself, thought I wouldn’t need any external help…… …. but eventually realized… god damn it, I really do need the help I can get, lol! I’m so easily distracted and sidetracked. I need something to keep me committed. So finally, about a month ago, I decided to give Slim Couture a go!

Now, just so you know, this post consists entirely of my own opinions, and I’m not being told to say any of this.

Here’s me on my first day of treatment with them!

Upon stepping in, I felt a familiar sense of nervousness overcome me. I remember feeling this way a long time ago: Excited. Scared. Nervous. Hopeful. Skeptical. …All at once.  I’ve done TCM slimming before, so I’ve no doubt that it could actually work. But Slim Couture’s treatments do not involve needles. What exactly can Slim Couture do for me, or you?

TCM slimming 101- information extracted from their official website.

“As people are busy with their hectic work schedule, it is very unlikely that they will have the time to exercise and keep fit. And the fastest and easiest method that they can find is taking slimming pills or supplements that help to burn fats and loss weight in the blind of an eye. Some even go to the extent of crash dieting, where one does not eat willingly for long hours in order to lose weight. On the other hand, most people are not aware that TCM slimming techniques are healthy and does not have side effect on the body, techniques such as acupuncture, Chinese herbal medication, massage therapy, scrapping and cupping treatment.

Slimming pills and supplements
Taking slimming supplements and weight loss pills are fast and convenient ways to lose weight. One just simply performs his daily chores and it only takes a minute or 2 and pops the pill before or after meal for it to take effect. Those who took the supplements are more than happy, as the results are noticeable after a short period from a few weeks’ time to even a few days, depends on individual’s reaction to the medicine. Soon after taking the supplement for a prolonged period of time, the effects will degrade, as the human body starts adapting to the medicine, and sometimes, the result may even rebound if one just simply stops taking the medication. Taking slimming pills and supplements are fast and convenient, but the effects are not permanent and sometimes may even cause side effects the body.

Crash dieting
While some are using drugs and pills to suppress obesity and burning fats in their body, there are also people who will go to the extent of reducing their meal intake. In a sense, yes, eating a reduced amount of food everyday as to doing the same amount off physical activity somehow will imbalance the intake (food) and output (action) ratio. Well, you may be able to achieve the desired weight in a short period of time, but it can be dangerous as well, as crash dieting also means cutting off your intake of healthy minerals, vitamins, which are good for the body in fighting off illnesses or viruses. Crash dieting may also cause malnutrition which can be risky for people of a younger age.

Traditional Chinese Medicine Slimming
As compared to taking slimming supplements and crash dieting, TCM slimming method is healthy, does not have side effect, and the results are long-lasting. Moreover, it helps to regulate blood circulation, internal secretion, detoxing, improve metabolism and digestion, which helps to promote the overall healthy effect on slimming. It is not always as simple as in the case that the more you eat, the more weight you gain. Most people believe that weight is gained from overeating, which is in fact true for most cases, but it fails to explain that how can some people simply can lose weight even though they are heavy eaters while some just simply gain weight easily, even just by eating small portions of meal and drinking only water. Traditional Chinese Medicine studies the relationship between having healthy internal organs and the overall well-being of a person.”

After having been through quite a few sessions with them now, I’d like to personally advise a few things you can expect if you undergo the same treatment:

• Your measurements and weight will be taken every session (mine are twice weekly), so your weight loss progress can be closely monitored. It’s very motivating to hear the numbers dropping every week! And also a great way to keep yourself in check.

• Don’t expect it to be some miracle treatment whereby you stuff yourself with bad food, and still expect to be losing a lot of weight. I’ve said this before, and I swear no words are more true. You cannot out-exercise a bad diet. You will have to follow their diet plan for you if you want the best results in the shortest amount of time.

• You will, however, see results in as little as one session. I have to admit, I didn’t diet at all during the period between Session 1 and Session 2. Partly because I had no self control, also because I was curious to see what the treatment could do without any dieting effort from my part. Amazingly enough, my measurements still dropped around my thigh area!

• No pain, no gain, right? It does hurt. Both scraping “gua sha”, and cupping “ba guan”. Quite a substantial bit…. especially at the start. It definitely takes some getting used to. I actually writhed and flung around like something from The Exorcist movie and almost kicked my therapist a few times (I think I actually did, luckily they’re all super nice). Gradually, you’ll get used to the sensation more as the sessions go by, and the pain becomes bearable. It hurts the most where you have the most cellulite – but “gua sha” will help your cellulite go away (I can vouch for this!!!!!!!!) and it’s extremely effective in helping you lose inches off problem areas (for me, particularly my love handles and upper thighs) so yes… it’s totally worth it. Through this treatment, I’ve come to realize that pain is temporary, whereas the results will last for as long as you bother to maintain them. I have low pain tolerance, so I wouldn’t be doing this unless I really believe it was worth my time and effort.

• You won’t need to take any dietary supplements or exercise regularly when you’re with Slim Couture.

• The cupping will leave reddish marks (they do not hurt afterwards like bruises do, only discoloration) on your body, and these can last anywhere from days to weeks. If you like wearing sleeveless clothes, you could either 1) ask your therapist to avoid cupping areas where you don’t want the marks to be seen, or 2) cover them with concealer, like I do!

I lost 1.5kg in a week, with eating clean, and help from Slim Couture!!!!! I was shocked myself. For me, I don’t have as much of a problem losing weight as I do maintaining to keep it off. But of course, everyone’s results will vary and you should not base your expectations on MY results. I can only tell you what I went through personally. I know that their other customers have drastic weight loss way more impressive than the rate I’m going! I’m probably too lenient with my diet. I still snack on junk food quite often, much to their displeasure. Nevertheless, I will try harder! Despite my not-so-clean diet, I’ve still been seeing amazing progress when it comes to achieving a more svelte silhouette. My lumps and bumps have all decreased significantly!

Thank you dear Joanne, Sherlin, Wan Ting and all the other wonderful ladies at Slim Couture for making me feel so hopeful about attaining a trimmer version of myself! It really helps that they’re convincing at encouraging you. They make you feel like your goals are certainly achievable, and they do their very best to help you in any way they can. Since my treatment is still an on-going process, I can’t show any Before / After shots yet. BUT, in my next post (soon), I’ll show you guys some progress shots, where you can already see significant improvement in my extra flabby areas!

I’ll be happy to answer any questions related to Slim Couture that you may have.

You can leave me a comment, or drop me an e-mail. If you do visit them, make sure to tell them you came from Jessica’s blog! They will treat you well. :) And if you go to the Singapore Shopping Centre outlet, we may just bump into each other sooner or later! Do say hi if we do! I’m still going there twice weekly. I love how it’s just opposite Plaza Singapura, very convenient for me to go for my other appointments after my treatments. I can’t wait to share with y’all my results! Stay tuned!!!!!!!!!!

Erabelle: Beauty In An Insant (Erabrowlogy)

Let’s talk beauty!

One of the most commonly overlooked features on a woman’s face and in her make up routine are her eyebrows.

I can’t reiterate enough what a massive impact having good or bad eyebrows could do for your overall outlook! I think eyebrows are just as important as your hairstyle. Yes, THAT big a deal!!! Your eyebrows can say so much about you as a person, and you can derive several things about a stranger you just met by stealing one quick glance at their eyebrows.

  • “I don’t really care about my looks / I don’t have time to groom myself” - Someone who has overgrown and messy eyebrows that have not been shaped recently / ever.
  • “I enjoy taking care of the way I look and I take great pride in my aesthetics” – What nicely groomed and neat eyebrows tell me.
  • “I am angry all the time!!! / I’m really unhappy about something right now” - Excessively bushy / think / dark / harsh eyebrows that can sometimes make you look more upset than you really are
  • “Oh really?” – Over plucked eyebrows will give you that constantly surprised or perplexed look. Not a good look.
  • “I have no idea what I’m doing” – Terribly drawn eyebrows / shapeless eyebrows.

And the list goes on! Of course, this is my personal opinion and does not necessarily accurately reflect the truth of a person, but when it comes to first impressions… One chance is all you’ve got. I’ve had my fair share of bad brow days. Super thick, super thin, too arched, too straight, too dark, too red, I’ve been there and done that (and never want to go back again!)

Honest to god, drawing nice eyebrows is one of the most difficult things a girl will ever have to do. Ever since I’ve gone down the path of eyebrow embroidery, I can’t imagine my life any other way!!! I wake up with good looking brows every single day. No effort whatsoever.

If you’re like many girls out there who need help with your brows (It’s ok to admit it), Erabelle is the perfect place to go to for a much needed brow & beauty makeover!

Erabelle is an expert in the brow industry, having acclaimed multiple awards for their brow services over the past 9 years, you know you’re in good hands!

-”Erabrowlogy is a holistic brow service with a pre-treatment step and boosted aftercare routine, to give beautiful and natural-looking brows that frame the face with enhanced colour retention. The effect is expected to last from 2 to 3 years.

This service will lend colour and depth to pale, faded or naturally sparse brows and can correct the shape and colour of poorly-tattooed eyebrows that downplay one’s attractiveness.
We believe that individuals have unique features and so the one-style-fits-all does not resonate with us. Pioneers of this technique, we understand that oriental features are distinctly different from our western counterparts and have since perfected the art of designing women’s eyebrows according to six common Asian face shapes. Customised to your face shape, the shape of brows will be tailored to perfectly frame your face and eyes and showcase your assets. The colour of dye is selected to complement skin tone and hair colour.”

A couple of other blogger friends & I were at Erabelle’s new outlet at Bugis Junction to check out a live demonstration of Erabrowlogy being done on a pretty (voluntary) model!

The EraBrowlogy Process

Step 1: Brow Preparation
A brow mask will be applied onto the brow area that removes dead skin cells and excess sebum, whilst hydrating the skin. This is especially advantageous for those with oily or dry skin, as unhealthy skin condition is a factor contributing to colour retention.

Step 2: Erabrow Design
Customisation design process includes face shape and eyebrow analysis, designing, trimming and tweezing. Creation of the perfect arch will then be done with Erabelle Long-Lasting Brow Pencil where shade is chosen accordingly to suit skin tone and hair colour.

Here are the 5 important aspects the therapist looks at when they design eyebrows:
1) Length of eyebrows
2) Thickness of eyebrows; determined by the distance between the brows and eyes, size of eyes, size of face and body frame
3) Shape and tip of the brow arch
4) Starting point of the brows – light and natural-looking
5) Ending point of the brows – complete and precise

Step 3: Patch Test
Patch test is done before procedure to test for any allergy to the certified colour pigment used.

Step 4: Preparation of Equipment
New Micropen tips and colour caps are used for every customer to ensure that strict hygiene standards are observed.

Step 5: Application of Colour
The Softstroke technique used coupled with topical numbing cream and micropen seeks to induce an experience of minimal discomfort.
In addition, photos will be taken pre- and post- treatment to monitor the results.

Here you can see that EraBrowlogy has been done on half of eyebrow, and it may look quite dark now, but that’s not the final product yet!
.
.
.

Ready to see the results you can achieve with EraBrowlogy in just one hour?!
Absolutely gorgeous eyebrows that she WON’T have to draw for at least the next 2 years with the full course of treatment & proper care!
There was no bleeding or much swelling involved, and at all times the model seemed perfectly relaxed and at ease, so pain factor should not be much of an issue thanks to the numbing cream, and advanced European technology / standards that Erabelle upholds. You can see a very faint outline of whiteness around her freshly done eyebrows due to mild swelling, but it’s nothing to take notice of and will fade within an hour or two. I’m in love with the natural results! You can save SO much time and never again have “bad brow days”, no matter what time you wake up. Even without make up, you can look put-together with nice eyebrows that frame your face.
The brow pampering doesn’t stop there! With every EraBrowlogy treatment session, you’ll get a Browlogy Care Kit, which includes:
Aftercare cream (5g) – To be applied every morning and night for at least 5 days of the colour-settling process
Hydra Cleansing Water (15ml) – For ease of cleansing, Hydra Cleansing Water can be used with cotton pads to cleanse the face, avoiding the brow area
Skin Calming Mask (5g) – To counter discomfort and redness after the procedure, it is recommended to use this mask for the 2nd, 3rd and 4th nights after the procedure for a soothing effect
Gal pal Yina & I were excited about getting a mini brow makeover! Even though we’ve had our eyebrows permanently done a year ago, it’s faded quite a lot so it’s high time for a brow update!
Only when you get EraBrowlogy done do you get to lie on this super comfy reclining chair (yes my therapist is putting on socks for me to maintain the hygiene of the place and it helps keep my feet warm too!) Because all the other normal seats were taken up by eager ladies, they assigned me to the luxurious seating! Hehe.
My therapist then proceeds to explain to me what my face shape is (long + heart shape) and what kind of eyebrow structure would suit it. She lamented that one of my brow bone is significantly higher than the other, thus making my eyebrows look a little unbalanced sometimes.. but she would try to correct that for me!
With her trusty set of Erabelle tools.. she begins reshaping my brow story! Getting rid of unwanted hairs, trimming and snipping and brushing away ever so delicately and concisely…
After the process is completed, she shows me the “Before & After” photos she’d taken of me for comparison.. and here it is for your good judgement!
The difference may not be outrightly obvious, however I’ve noticed that she has corrected the color of my eyebrows to better suit my skin and hair color (a very dark brown, close to black) as opposed to having reddish brown eyebrows (because I used to have purple hair, I had lighter eyebrows)
My therapist also elongated the length of my eyebrows, giving it a more defined tip, resulting in a more polished look! (note: these results are temporary, I did not do EraBrowlogy) As I had very little brow hair to begin with, my difference was not as striking and amazing as Yina’s!!!

Look at her Before & After:

Now THIS makes a convincing case!!!!!

Yina’s been blessed with thick, bushy eyebrows that can be beautifully shaped into different structures, and she chose a relatively “straight, low arch” soft brow look AKA the korean eyebrow! I am so jealous of her eyebrows. Why do I have so much armpit hair, nose hair.. but no eyebrow hair?!

The both of us all happy with our brow makeover from Erabelle!
Thank you Erabelle for a wonderful pampering session, the next time I’ll be sure to come back to try out their facials, the treatment rooms are too cute, themed differently according to fairytales!
Erabelle puts great emphasis on the environment of their boutiques, making it feel cosy, posh and whimsical all at once. Their therapists are also all wearing beautiful feminine kimonos to represent the great service that Japan is known for, and the kind of service they strive to provide you with!

A pampering session at Bella Skin Care

What defines beauty?

I’m sure everyone has different opinions about what is considered “pretty”, “gorgeous” or “beautiful” to them. It’s true that beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder. Some people like bright colored big eyes. Some like ethnic small asian eyes. Some people like long sharp noses, others prefer cute button noses. But I think there is one aesthetic factor every one in this world can agree on that instantly qualifies as an attractive attribute…. and that’s clear skin on your face (and on your body, for that matter). I believe that having good complexion is half the battle won for being good looking. The other half is having proportionately sized, symmetrical features and being physically fit (still working on that one). I cannot imagine blackheads or zits ever being considered as sexy, or cute, so there’s no wonder why females can spend hundreds of dollars on skin care and cosmetics every other month in a bid to keep their complexion as flawless as possible! Every girl’s lifelong dream is to look good without make up and to never get fat no matter what they eat. But let’s face it – things don’t always pan out the way we want them to.. If you’re overweight, you can exercise or go for slimming treatments. And if your skin needs help, you can go to Bella Skin Care for some much needed salvation.

Here I am at Bella Skin Care, wearing another comfy and simple hollyhoque.com dress (I wore a different dress by them in my previous post!) that happened to totally match their logo’s color… no it wasn’t on purpose, but I must have some level of telepathic ability :P

I have to admit, I have never been taking particularly good care of my skin until just of late.

Prior to this, I had not gone for a facial session in probably more than a year and my regular skin care regime  included the bare essentials – cleansing and closing up my pores with toner. I still remember using body soap to wash my face barely 2 years ago. Only in recent months have I really tried to step up my game and purchase more skin care products, so now I go all the way with cleansing, toning, moisturizing, serum-ing and weekly exfoliating + masking. To really complete my routine, however, I visited Bella Skin Care for a wholesome and revitalizing treatment!

“Established in 1982, Bella has over 30 centres worldwide to date and is the region’s acknowledged leader in advanced skincare services and advanced hair removal solution. Using the most up-to-date facial and hair removal technologies and techniques available worldwide, Bella is constantly enhancing and expanding its exclusive range of professional skincare services. All Bella Skin Care centers are staffed by a dedicated team of qualified skincare experts who are equipped with the latest developments in specialized skincare treatments and hair-removal services.”

The Bella outlet I visited was extremely conveniently located at International Building, coincidentally also the same building where my chiropractor is at!!! So immediately after my chiro sesh, I hopped over to Bella… I can foresee myself coming back here more often now, it’s only a 5 minute walk from Orchard MRT! :)

The interior of the place was minimalist, very clean and simple looking yet comfortable and polished at the same time.

After seating me down with a cuppa tea, the skincare expert analyzed my overall skin condition with this cool machine that could Zoom In x 999 into your skin to see even the tiniest freckle, hair, pore and zit. It shows us all the problems that we can’t see as well with our naked eye. I told the skincare expert that I’ve noticed my skin getting oilier these days, and I tend to get small zits more often than I used to. Also, I have combination skin, which means my T zone is excessively oily but my cheeks and chin area are dry.

She highlighted to me that I’ve got some scarring from recent pimples on my forehead and chin, and blemishes / blackheads that needed to be extracted most notably around my nose. The dark blotches you see on the screen are apparently remnant pimple scars which have faded into dark pigmentation!!!! D:
I didn’t know it would look so dark!

Based on this analysis, it was then decided that the most suitable treatment for my skin would be the…

Pure Blossom Treatment

The treatment room was soooo cozy and comfy, I fell asleep multiple times while the therapist’s soft hands worked their magic on me.

This is my face with zero make up, freshly cleansed. And obviously I won’t be doing any photoshop to my skin or face in this post to show you the real deal. I think I have a yellowish undertone for my skin, and redness around my cheeks, forehead and chin. My chin area has the most discoloration, with random dark patches of skin everywhere, so frustrating! While people struggle with the common oily forehead, I have an uncommon problem with a zitty chin.

I wore contact lenses to the facial, so I was asked tp remove them before starting as I would be more comfortable during the procedure. Unfortunately, I didn’t bring any solution or contact lens casing with me, and to my surprise, they had spare ones ready for my usage! How extremely convenient.

After cleansing, I was treated to a “Welcome Massage”, which took me by pleasant surprise because this is the first facial salon I’ve been to that not only massages your face but your shoulders, arms and neck too. Ultimate bliss!!!!!! Then, my skin was gently exfoliated by scrubbing, prepping it for the upcoming extraction. I know most girls hate the extraction part but I actually quite like it. Doesn’t it feel good to know that all that yucky gunk is being squeezed out of your face?! It’s not recommended that you do it by yourself at home because you might accidentally damage your skin even further by using the wrong methods, so leave it to the professionals! The pain was tolerably and completely acceptable by my standards. My therapist offered to groom my eyebrows (nice touch!) but I had to stop her after awhile because I couldn’t stand the pain from plucking. So yeah, plucking eyebrows definitely ranks way higher on the pain threshold level than extraction for me. I always shave my brows.

Halfway through the treatment, my therapist wheeled in this odd looking tub of orangey liquid.. which turned out to be hot wax.

And told me to dip my hands in them!!!

With raised eyebrows, I followed her instructions. She explained that this hand paraffin wax is going to keep my hands warm and toasty and the aftermath result will be softer, smoother hands!

It did feel quite strange, not in a bad way, when the melted wax eventually dried up, like your hands were encased in wax… a unique experience indeed.

After which, a rose infusion was sprayed all over my face, a botanic ampoule massaged into my skin, and then a relaxing mask was applied as the finishing touch. Everything smelled sooo good because the Pure Blossom treatment uses natural flower extracts! I thought I would be left alone while the mask was setting on my face, but the therapist gave me another massage for the next 10 minutes. So many plus points for extra massages!

By the end of the treatment, my skin was feeling rejuvenated, firm, supple and just plain awesome.

My skin tone looks brighter, more even and despite the extraction, you can’t see any angry red marks on my face! I was extremely glad about this because nothing says “I’ve just gone for a facial” like a bare face with bright red dots all over it.

The Pure Blossom treatment’s key ingredients include Vitamin C and Glycolic Acid, which helps stimulate collagen production below the surface of the skin and detoxifies, restoring a firm, youthful and radiant complexion. You can see the results for yourself!!!!!!!! The whole process took slightly over an hour, time went by quicker than I expected as I was having friendly chats with my therapist the whole time, and by the end of it all I was very pleased with what I saw in the mirror.

Just in case you think I’ve played with the lighting or photoshopped the difference on my skin, here’s the skin analysis upon completion of the treatment.

My pimple scars have lightened tremendously!!!!! Begone, pigmentation. The quicker you get rid of pigmentation when it sets on your face, the easier it will be. The blackheads on my nose were also removed and hydration level of my skin boosted!

The shots above were taken when zoomed into my forehead area, and the reason why the hair disappeared along with the pigmentation marks is because she shaved away the hair excess around my brows!

On the whole, my complexion was radiant and I dare even say, glowing without make up. I don’t mind leaving the house without make up on a normal basis, in fact I do it a lot, but I feel like my skin looks rather dull naturally and would prefer not to be in town without it. Not that day, however. I paraded around Orchard Road, and even went to Mediacorp to support my friends for The Final One and got accidentally filmed on national TV without an ounce of make up on me!!!

Barefaced, loud and proud!

Specially for my blog readers, you girls get to try thePure Blossom Therapy at only $98 instead of the usual pricing of $168!!! Please print out this voucher and bring it along after fixing an appointment with them to use it. Bella has outlets all over in Singapore, from Jurong to Tampines to Serangoon to Orchard so visit their website here for a list of their locations and to make your appointment!

Here’s to beautiful skin, and confidence you can wear even without make up on!

xoxo,
Jess

Browhaus Resurrection (Natural)

Hi! Notice anything different about me today?

No, not the fact that my hair has more blue highlights than usual…. but them eyebrows!!!!! They’ve gone missing! That’s actually what my brows look like normally without any make up on them. For those of you who have been following me for a long time, you would have heard all about my brow woes before. And for you new lot who have no idea, well, I was born cursed with sparse and oddly shaped eyebrows that are slightly downward sloping. I’ve struggled with eyebrow make up all my life, even now, when I consider myself very familiar with the application of make up on my face, my eyebrows seem to be the hardest and longest thing to do. I guess it’s because I have so little to work with in the first place, it’s kind of like trying to apply mascara on eyelashes that aren’t even there. Even if you have the best mascara in the world, it’s still going to look like crap because you don’t have a good base to start off with.

Now normally I wouldn’t be caught dead without my eyebrows drawn especially when the rest of my face is covered with make up – the contrast is way too noticeable! Even on lazy days, I try to make it a point to draw my eyebrows and apply a bit of cheek and lip tint so I don’t give innocent people a jolly good fright when I’m wandering around town.

The only reason why I went out with naked brows that day was because… I was going to get a Brow Resurrection treatment done at Browhaus!!! Woopie-doo!!!

Brow Resurrection is basically getting semi-permanent eyebrows drawn to a shape of your liking inked onto your skin using vegetable dye, and small but precise incisions. The effect can last up to 1-2 years, depending on how you take care of it. This is my second time getting Brow Resurrection done with them, the first session was back in 2010 and even though you can search for the entry if you’re curious to read about it I am so not going to link it here because reading back, my old entries REALLY make me cringe. Why did I like to dress up my blog posts with all sorts of fugly bolded fonts and rainbow colors and space everything apart so widely??? And my pictures! They were beyond horrid! It’s like reading a 10 year old’s scrapbook and it seems hardly credible. Sigh, can we just pretend those days didn’t exist? I wish I had a magical button I could click that would instantly make all my old blog posts slightly less retarded but the only button that exists for me is “Delete” at the moment, and unfortunately I’m not about to throw my archive away. When you bare your soul to the internet, shit ALWAYS comes back to haunt you!

Here is the PR representative of Browhaus, Weiying, explaining to me the whole process of Browhaus’ famous Brow Resurrection treatment and what it can do to help girls with brow problems like me, and I bet some of you out there!

Which brow crime are you committing right now?! I think mine falls under the “crayon” category – they need to make a new one on that book. :P

So here I am… Ready to resurrect my brows back to life!

If you look at the ends of my eyebrows closely, there are some remnants of my previous Brow Resurrection from 2010. It’s faded 95% or thereabouts, however the remaining 5% sort of gives my eyebrows a bit of a brownish looking tail (luckily) otherwise I would literally just have only the front part of my eyebrows. And no, it’s not because I groom them that way, they’re… just.. like that. Everyday, shaved or not.

I can really appreciate how the treatment fades away inconspicuously as though it was never even there, because nobody wants to have the same eyebrow shape for more than a year or two of their life, do they?! I’m all for changing the general shape of my eyebrows every other month, depending on my make up and dressing style.

The consultation begins with the therapist explaining the shape and arches of my natural eyebrows to me, and then proceeds to ask me more about what sort of look I’m hoping to achieve with my Brow Resurrection.

I told her I want something fairly natural and normal looking without a distinct arch, but it cannot be too straight, and it doesn’t have to be particularly thick or long. Definitely not thin or downward sloping at the ends either, though. *fussy customer*

And she gets straight to work!

According to what I’d described, she will draw the shape with a removable eyebrow pencil before doing the real thing with semi-permanent ink so that I get a good idea of what it’s going to look like. She also grooms your eyebrow before, so that the overall look is cleaner.

I got her to re-adjust the shape at least 3 times before I was fully satisfied with it and gave her the green light. I’m not going to settle for anything less than I consider the best it could be, because semi-permanent make up on your face is no laughing matter! I chose a natural brown shade as I wanted something less fierce looking.

The difference between Brow Resurrection and other less-than-desirable eyebrow treatments out there is that the eyebrow shape is inked on carefully, stroke by stroke, instead of a whole solid chunk, to recreate the individual hair look natural brows would have.

3 things about this photo:

1) There is a stick flying about to poke me in the eye
2) My hair.
3) Holy crap my hair line. I AM BALDING AT THE AGE OF 21… AND I’M NOT EVEN 21. Hello Beijing 101 or other scalp management places, I want to be your ambassador!!!!

A numbing cream is applied all over my brows, I waited for 15 minutes, then the procedure officially begun. I wasn’t nervous at all because I’ve done it once before and know it doesn’t hurt that much despite my low pain tolerance level, so I almost fell asleep a few times through treatment, which took about half an hour. As I’m not allowed to take photos of their top-secret techniques (hehe) I can only tell you guys that I felt almost no pain except for one or two occasions where I felt a prickling, stinging sensation that lasted for about 2 minutes only. All I did was close my eyes, lie back on a comfy chair and let the therapist do her thing… She was gentle and patient, so I felt completely at ease. I would safely say the overall pain was lesser than stepping on a lego or getting your eyebrows plucked. I can’t even stand the idea of waxing any part of my body because of the fear of physical pain, so there’s really nothing you have to worry about. The previous time I did Brow Resurrection, I admit I did get a massive headache and slight bleeding / swelling afterwards but this time I encountered no such problem. The new Brow Resurrection 2.5 is supposed to be more light-handed and natural looking, compared to the “heavier” Brow Resurrection 2.4 from years ago.

Less than an hour after my consultation, I finish my treatment, and… I feel like a new person!!!!!!!

HELLO beautiful eyebrows!! I haven’t seen you in awhile, where have you been?
(If I look like I just got up from bed, that’s because I did)

I was pleasantly taken aback by how natural it looks, even more so than my first experience – and I’ll be damned, if no one told you my new eyebrows were inked on with vegetable dye by a therapist you would probably just have guessed I was born with naturally beautiful brows! (well, I wish) Don’t underestimate the difference well-maintained eyebrows make. It frames your whole face, and could make you look younger / older / fresher / angry / surprised / tired without you having to alter your facial expressions.

This was a few days after, a more close up view shows the individual strands better.

The color intensified after the swelling went down from the first day, and my eyebrows started to scab and itch a little due to the open wounds.. but it didn’t bother me. You’ll be provided with after-care creams to apply, and there was almost no down time, besides the fact I should stay away from swimming, exercising and sun tanning the first couple of days, which I don’t do much of anyway. Now that approximately a month has passed since my Brow Resurrection, the color has lightened significantly and looks deceivingly natural! If you like the effect, NOW is the perfect time to get yours done too! Browhaus is offering a very special promotional rate to my blog readers to try the Brow Resurrection 2.5 (Natural).

If you quote “Shiberty“, you can get the same thing done for only $300! Usual price: $2140.

With all good bargains, there’s always fine print… so the deal is, you have to be a first-time Brow Resurrection customer (it’s okay if you’ve done other services before) and there will be no touch up sessions included in the $300 pricing. This promotion is only redeemable at these specific outlets: Browhaus Cathay, ION, Katong, Raffles City Basement & Street Level and is valid till 31st May 2013, so you’ll have to make an appointment in the following week.

With normal customers who pay the full price of $2140, they get unlimited touch ups for up to 2 years. But for trial customers from my blog, there is none included. You guys can first try out how you like the service and if it’s to your liking, you can purchase the touch up sessions separately. So much better than paying the full price upfront in my opinion. In any case, with my old Brow Resurrection I only went back to touch up my eyebrows once and then I totally forgot about ever going back to touch up again (just never crossed my mind). I’d imagine you would need maybe maximum two to three touch ups a year if you want it in tip-top condition.

With the senior therapist who did my brows at the Cathay outlet, Elisa!

Thank you Browhaus for saving me precious time and frustration now that I don’t need to suffer coloring my barely-there eyebrows in everyday. Drawing in my eyebrows is one thing, my biggest problem was that eyebrow pencils are all water-soluble so whenever I perspired more than usual or brushed something against my forehead, my eyebrows would be spontaneously and tragically wiped off. There is nothing more embarrassing than half smudged eyebrows. Oh the horror!

Thankfully that won’t be happening at the Social Star Awards which is happening this Saturday. Anticipating the amount of people going, it’s definitely gonna be a sweat fest but my eyebrows ain’t melting off this time! Did I mention? I’m going to see Aerosmith perform live (*DOES LITTLE STUPID LOOKING EXCITED DANCE*) a shout out to Nuffnang and Starcount for the kind invite, Sam and I can’t wait to watch these legendary rock stars in action!!

Gettin’ my purple on with Shunji Matsuo 313

So, this happened recently.
It started from like this….

My red hair. I loved it to bits.
It was almost a signature look already. I even dedicated a whole blog post to it at the start of this year. But it was getting, just kinda old….. (I know, I’m so fickle) but c’mon I mean, red is so common now, what with half the female population coloring their tresses red for Chinese New Year. And so when the bright color faded to brownish red and when it was time to make another trip to my trusty salon, I decided to take it to the next level!

Mmmmhm.
Something’ goin downnnnnnnnnn. I spent more than a combined 10 hours in the salon over 2 days.

The red pigments in my hair were so stubborn and strong, that it took THREE times to bleach / lighten it to this color

Bleaching your hair once is bad enough…. I’m quite amazed I managed to survive it three times in a day, followed by 2 rounds of purple dye. That’s pretty intense shit.

But at the end of the day, all the hours of repeated tedious coloring, washing, combing, blow drying was worth it…. because THIS was what we planned to achieve!!!

.
.

I’m getting my P-U-R-P-L-E on! ♥ With streaks of electric blue, because purple solo isn’t quite mad enough for me. I should have been born a peacock instead. I’m soooooo happy with it!!!! When I saw myself in the mirror, I almost leaned forward to kiss myself. :P The only thing stopping me was a swayed sense of dignity and a slight sense of pride.

My relatives wouldn’t stop talking about my hair color during Chinese New Year, much to my narcissistic delight of course. It was always brought up during our dinner table conversations. I bought this Chu Yi dress to match with my hair and bag! I freak out when my shoes and bag don’t match.

And this is Chu Er’s outfit!!! Surprisingly, purple hair goes well with almost every color… except brown, green. Brown just looks like crap on me somehow (no matter my hair color), wearing green makes me look like an eggplant (LOL I’m serious you can even envision it). But that’s okay… because I don’t wear a lot of those colors normally, anyway.

How it looks like when it’s curled! I normally like curly hair on myself but I think purple hair looks best straight or slightly wavy. Curled hair seems to lose most of its shine after the extreme heat sucks out all the moisture!

I only could imagine myself doing these crazy colors on my head because I FULLY trust my salon Shunji Matsuo @ 313 with all my heart (and hair).

I showed them a few pictures of pretty purple hair on other girls, and told them to do whatever they believe would work best on me. I also mentioned I’d like to include some streaks of blue. And this was what they came up with. Aren’t they genius? I owe so much to them!!

My stylist hands after he was done purplifying my hair up. So grateful to my stylists who stayed back late and worked long hours of magic on me!

I dare say I enjoy rocking this purple even more than I did with my redhead. Like, I’ll still always like red because it’s a classic look and easy to pull off and all that, but this purple is really something else. You can’t NOT spot me in a sea of people like this! If you couldn’t already tell, I love the attention. Perhaps I’m used to how it looks by now but I reckon it’s not very unnatural looking – which is a good thing. You know how some people have loud colors and they just look plain ridiculous because their hair is so awfully dry and damaged looking that it comes across almost like a wig? Yeah, thankfully I don’t have that problem.

My hair WAS dry at first (it was colored a total of 5 times, 3 bleaching 2 purple dyes) but the more I washed it and treated it well with conditioner and hair masks, the softer and more manageable it gets. Of course, going back for nourishing hair treatments at my salon helped as well.

Now, after a few weeks of having this purple hair, it doesn’t feel damaged anymore, in fact it is quite shiny and smooth to the touch!

Big BIGGGGGGGGGG l♥ve goes out to Shunji Matuo @ Somerset 313 for always outdoing yourself when it comes to making my hair even more shocking and pretty!!!! ^________^ Thanks to you guys my hair is always in top form, no matter the occasion or crazy color I attempt. What would I do without you, really? Probably still have some safe boring color.

If your hair salon isn’t making you look your best, time to hop over to the bright side. Why settle for less than best? Remember to make your appointment with Shunji Matsuo 313 before heading down if you’re looking for a particular stylist that day, because from the many times I’ve been there… I can tell you that they’re ALWAYS busy, especially in the evenings. My main stylist’s name is Eddie, but if he’s not available, you guys can also look for stylists named Jerry or Caely there, they’ve done my hair before and I love them all to bits!
